I might be wrong but I was getting the feeling that taunt was to taunt a mob while in combat to get it to hit you instead of another player. I think it draws the aggro to you. I belive I have used it a few times and I thought it worked. I could be wrong though, someone please correct me if I am.

But I haven't used taunt in like a week.

That's exactly what taunt does, and depending on if you are successful or not, the mob will attack you. I'm one of the melee 'tanks' in a regular big game hunting group on Naritus (The NBS) and taunt has proven very useful in getting the mob off of the puller.

Taunt

I've used it still cannot figure out what it does.

Anyone actually use it and to what benefit?

draws aggro from your friends onto you, to help you tank in groups. can be useful.

Use it when your medic gets attacked, for example.

Of course if your medic does /peace and you attack, they will generally switch agro anyway.

Here's the strange thing (at least from my point of view).

I can land a successful taunt at a decent range, and get the "your taunt is successful" message...but the mob does nothing. Just stands there at range looking around eating grass.

I figured taunt would really draw agro, as in piss off a mob and make it come after me.

AmI nuts?

If you're in a group and your medic is getting beat on, using /taunt successfully will make the mob come after you instead.

AFAIK, that's all it does.

as previous poster already sayed it changes often aggro to you instead of your team mate/pet etc. It's also handy for stopping running mobs. Taunt makes target also to pause for a while which is almost everytime enough to catch running target.

No, it's not AoE. And no one would like it to be either.

It's nice being able to taunt a mob off a friend, but if it was AoE, taunting 4,5 even 6 mobs off a group to you, well that would be cause for a problem in 2 parts...

1) you could essentially taunt off a whole set of FS npc's or somethngt hat drops holocrons, and ks them.
2) You could cause yourself a quick death by taunting too many things with an AoE taunt.
