An extra note: Taunt does nothing against playing characters. Its only useful against NPCs and creatures.

Taunt can also save your pet!
My pet takes the heat from one creature while I destroy another. Then I taunt the creature my pet is going after and save my pet.
I'm a Ranger and I use Taunt. I have never used Rescue.

umm wouldn't lunge do the same thing AND cause a posture change in the process?

Lunge doesn't neccesarily shift aggro while Taunt definetly will.

I dont know who mentioned it on these forums, but since they did I have been using /taunt religiously because it works great. For those of you who never use it, I have found it will freeze a fleeing MOB before they can warp. It has been a big aggravation saver for me. I have also found it useful if you are spamming specials to make a new macro adding clear combat queue before taunt. I just have novice brawler and I have found it works 75% of the time on just about everything I have fought, elders, krayts, etc. I have also found it useful if you are tanking for the group and a MOB aggros on a weaker group member, just taunt and stop them and go after them. I am not sure of the range or duration, but I typically am able to taunt and freeze them for enough time for me to get into range.
Anyway, I just wanted to reiterate this useful little skill we have that some may not know about

Hey everyone. Just wanted to shed some light on one of the least recognized and respected specials that a brawler gets, taunt.
Taunt is useless in PvP, plain and simple. But it is great in PvE.
When fighting that huge mob, and you get its ham down low, it starts to walk or run away from you. Taunt it and it will stop running away, and sometimes even come back to you. This is very helpful, as the devs still haven't fixed mob warping, so when they start walking away, after about 5 seconds they will be 100m away. Get your taunt in before that, and you have saved yourself alot of time chasing the mob.
Another good use of taunt is in a group setting. Lets say a buddy of yours is tanking, but his canape just ran out, and his mind is going down rapidly. Tell him to peace the mob, then you taunt it. Now you are tanking while he gets food and/or spice out of crates.
Taunt is also great if you are helping someone level, and want to be the tank. If a mob runs after the person who is leveling, taunt it back on you, then peace.
Taunt is also great for group hunts. You have a doc in the group, and to keep the doc's work at a minimum, you can taunt all the mobs onto you. That way, he/she only has to heal you.
Effective use of taunt turns a good tank into a great one. Go on a few hunts and use these tactics, and all those in your hunting party will think of you first, when asking for a great tank.

I really like this skill, I used to keep a tusken executioner aggro'ed on me when it was 24 m in the air and a bunch of riflemen were shooting it down.
Great for tanking, I've saved the life of many a group member with this.
