Thread: Ultimate Tank
Hmm I don't tank very well without my armor when I'm in a group. Armor makes a huge difference in damage. Well for a teras kasi starting from the bottom anyway. I would say for sheer fun factor, Teras Kasi is the best you can get right now.
As a Teras Kasi with a few boxes, almost master medic, almost master brawler and 67 percent ubese, I tank very well. I've been in many fights where me and the teras kasi master in our guild were the last two standing.
The key is to use your abilities well. Landing intimidate and stun (for those who have it) can drastically cut your damage. Another way to go is to land warcry and knockdown. This will increase your damage AND prevent your target from doing damage. Master brawler actually gives some of the best crowd control in the game.
If I land stun/intimidate and use warcry, with a doc at my back I'm able to do a somewhat decent job of tanking even krayts (well the ancients are a bit tough no matter how you do it).
My suggestions for "ultimate" tanking:
- Master brawler is an absolute must for intimidate2, warcry2, and also for that last bit of extra melee toughness.
- TKA and Fencer both offer some very nice defensive modifiers.
- Evidence suggests that a lot of the defensive modifiers stack across professions, so the "ultimate" tank would probably take the defensive lines from several melee professions at once.
- Set your stats around good armor. Use chef food to offset the encumbrance difficulties.

TKMs can make effective tanks. With their unarmed toughness and additional debuff attacks from the unarmed brawler line (blind and stun) they can both take a lot of damage and prevent the opponent from doing much damage.
Other melee classes can make good tanks as well, but the key to tanking is being able to absorb damage, not necessarily dish it out.
For tanking, I would choose a race that allows you to wear a complete set of armor. This rules out wookies, trandoshans, etc. You can get (sliced) armor with 90% kinetic resistances on some servers. This will reduce damage taken by 95% total (plus you get the unarmed toughness reduction o top of that). But if the mob gets a hit on a spot wear you are vulnerable (feet on a Trandoshan, for example), you're ability to tank is significantly reduced.
