What is the most powerful sword a novicebrawler can use? At what levels can I upgrade to a better sword and what swords can I upgrade to?

initialy all that you can use is a heavy axe but upgrade to a curved sword that has been sliced till you reach noviceswordsman than use a PH.

Two-handed Curved Sword was the original scythe, it's min damage is very low but max can reach in the 300's easily. So you might have an 80-350 damage sword @ xx2x Brawler and anywhere from 2.3+ speed depending on server's resources. Once you get Novice Swordsman if you can get Scythe certification right away which is @ xxx3 Swordsman ( You need little over 200k combat xp saved up for this ) you can use a scythe to grind very quickly, if not speed sliced Power Hammer around 3.5 or so speed is about the best you can get.

Depends if you're talking about one handed or two handed swords.
At novice you can use only a dagger for one handed, at one handed 1 you can use a gaderiffi baton. Get a nice one and use that all the way to master fencer.
For two handed you can use a heavy axe at novice however I'm not really sure which weapons you should change to and when. Once you can use a two handed curved sword (two handed 4) you should use that to grind swordsman because the power hammer isnt accurate enough.

NO! Bad Idea... Even a speed sliced hammer will be slower than the sword.... Use the Sword until you get at least the techniques tree done... Then once that is done use a speed sliced hammer for the rest of swordsman. After you master, get speed capped.... Speed capped swordsman is more or less 3 times faster than non speed capped swords.

What I did was use a two-handed sword for awhile it had about 370 max damage and used that until I got some speed cas and the skills with more speed then I used a ph to grind the rest out then used a scythe for pvp/pve

You will need to start out with a Heavy Axe, but when you advance, which should be fairly quick, you can go to Two-Handed curved sword and do what they said but when you have the fourth Two-Handed Weapon fighting skill I would suggest getting a nice speed sliced Two-Handed Cleaver, I did that and it worked very well.

Yeah, believe it or not, you need +89 to cap HeadHit3 with a 3.6 speed PH.
I went into detail about it here.

Swordsman went much faster for me when I started using my 4.4 speed 525-max hammer than when I used my sword. Its slower but that tends to matter much less when it does soo much more damage.
