Thread: Unarmed brawler is a total joke

I suppose that its human nature to want to be better than the next guy. To be able to gloat and say, ' Look at me! I am stronger than you,' is very valuable to some. This is so funny. Many here are upset because they BELIEVE that someone out there is better than them. There will always be a power struggle for who is best and who does the most damage. Don't struggle. This conversation is like quicksand. The more you writhe in pain thinking thatyou aren't in fact the best, the more thisidea will suck you in. Eventually you will end up at the bottom of this pit, hating your class and wishing you were marksman. Then, when you become a marksman, you will sit in despair wishing that you were still an unarmed brawler at the front lines fighting your way to victory with your fists instead of hiding behind that fearless melee ahead of you that is doing what USED TO BE your job.

Think on it.

Also please read my post on the "Top Brawler issues in need of balancing" thread. It covers a lot more there.

You must have some REALLY crappy knuckles... I'm not even master in unarmed yet and I CONSTANTLY hit for well over 600 damage normal with my sub standard knuckles. If I use unarmed hit 1, I usually do a 1k+ hit. Meanwhile, I am expert in all ranged weapons as well, and barely scratch a mob that cons white to me with the top guns the weaponsmiths can make.

My views are my own, they in no way represent the views of my guild.

Count me as one of the people who are enjoying brawler more than marksman. Beserk is awesome. Sure it costs, but it's well worth it. I've discovered that whinners make poor brawlers. Go shoot something and leave us alone.

And to this I say, wow. I have yet to get my Knuck's. But I'm looking forward to doing more than 100 damage. But as toyour statement on ranged attacks - my guildmates are doing well over 1500 points of damage. True they are using headshot, but perhaps they are also fighting the correct mobs. Perhaps the mobs that you are using UA on are suseptible to Kinetic damage vs laser damage (or whatever damage type the ranged weapons provide).

Also, from what I understand the UA Brawler is mainly a stepping stone. To get the commando line you need expert brawler and master marksman. TK requires Expert Brawler. etc. While there are some people going for master brawler, the majority (in my opinion) are going beyond.

Thanks!

Well I dont have many negative things to say. Im a Teras Kasi student havent reached novice yet and im doing more damage than ranged ppl who are farther in thier profession than I. I have a set of gks VK's and had them sliced coutesy of Dtox ( you rock bro!) which gave me an additional 20% to thier damage. I am totally looking forward to TK master in the future. I think its hard because it should be hard, and I picked it just for that reason. With training in medic/scout/pistol I havebecome fairly self sufficient and cut my downtime. The only thing negative ic is the penaties to the HAM bars on specials using VK's, the armor issues, and I miss a lot more than I would like too, but that will get better as I go up the TK tree.

I'm novice TKA and I love it.

I wear a full set of chitin armor - it does not kill me, because I've migrated my stats appropriately. Infact, on many occassions the chitin is what saves my life.

Yes, I've picked up medic skills, and I couldn't be happier with them. I'm using stim C's healing between 125-325 action and healthper stim. This will only improve as my medic skills increase.

I use VK. I go berserk, and watch the damage go wild. I hit 3-4x as fast as any pistol I've ever seen, and do between 200-500 damage, of course depending what I'm fighting, per hit. I start to feel BAD because my character hogs exp on kills!

If I were to complain about a weapon, it would be the rifle. Getting exp is sooo slow!! But then again, I bet I'm just going about it all wrong, and I'm sure there is an easier way to do it. I'm certianlly not going to assume that I know enough to call the profession broken

I will compliment your temporarily quiting the game. I wish I had the common sense to not play for the first month(s) after release

i may be hallucinating but I think they have been screwing up brawler..especially unarmed. I had vibroknuclers for a week and was doing great..but since the last up dates on the 16th and 18th it seems

berserk is all screwed up. Not only is it failing half the time before i go into battle...but once in combat with something it seems it is just stopping when before a berserk would last the whole length of combat with a lesser creature. Now it takes me 2 or 3 berserks to take out a weak blue or white con creature and I think its sad that they have appeared to nerf the berserk(and its use with vibroknucklers). Berserk I was not something that was too strong to be nerfed! God! How dumb are these developers?

And obviously VKs are not so strong they needed to be nerfed along with berserk I but thats what it

looks like has happened with the latest updates from the 18th. These developers are idiots in my opinion and I had heard from everquest players this is how everquest got screwed up also. I'm routinely getting

killed now by blue and white cons when a week ago I wasn't..and I'm at master unarmed. What is up with that..i have no idea? Plus they also deleted a vibroknuckler in my inventory since the last update.

I came to unarmed brawler by way of marksman. I was working my way up to rifleman, which I am now a novice, but was getting killed by mobs who survived myinitial attacks. My only options were to either fire at pb range or run for my life. More often than not I ended up incapped and occasionally dead. I searched the boards for a solution and picked this one. I love it. I combine the two pretty effectively. Of course I sometimes I get overconfident, like yesterday when I took on a mountain squill, but I at least was able to go toe to toe with it, trading several blows before it killed me. I watched that thing kill other pc's with one attack.

I agree with a lot of the concerns however, especially HAM costs for special attacks. Those do far more damage to me than most mobs, with the exception of the mountain squill. But I say don't give up, complement your melee skills with a ranged attack. Picking up unarmed was the smartest thing I've done, and I hope to take it all the way to TK master, along with Rifleman Master.

I chose a brawler because it was similar to my warrior char on another game I play. Granted speed up exp tree is nice but not a priority for me. I play to enjoy although I do get my frustrations at times. I am a timid brawler to say the least so i stick to the white mobs. I added novice scout so I could harvest meat,,bone..hide on my kills since other than missions...thought i could atleast offer these to medics to heal my wounds. Problem is I havent figured out the trade box thingy yet. Bugs should be reported of course so developers can fix what a class feel is their problems. People who call you whiners for complaints about your class imo have what I call character envy. Each class has their set of weaknesses and strengths. No class can have it all. Having said that ..I dont think a novice of any profession should be able to out damage the same mob as a professional level. That is just poor game mechanics. Ask that problems be addressed yes but at same time try to have fun with your class or it becomes work. Stressing yourself out to reach an elite level is not worth it....ITS A GAME !!!! Unfortunately I cant seem to make money but once I am stronger I can take on some decent missions..until then look out butterflies my polearm is coming lol.

I have seen a Teras Kasi NOVICE do 1500 points of damage. I shudder to think what he can do when he is a master. Sure, ranged weapons are better than melee early, but I challenge you to find a ranged weapon use that can even do over 700 points of damage. Yeah, brawlers suck early, just plow through it to the TK tree then start destroying.

They made ranged weapons outclass melee early on, but the playing field is more than level later on, possibly even skewed towards the melee. It's called balance.

Ok...here is my reason for loving unarmed. I am a Wookie/Rebel/Dancer/Brawler/Scout. Well I made the mistake of entering Bestine as an overt faction member. I had just finished a dance routine in the Cantina when an Imperial attacked me with a blow to my action, thus killing me in one shot. Being as I hadn't been cloned or insured I respawned in town with a covert status. As I exited the cloning facility who happens to be standing outside the doors of the building, same SOB that shoots dancers. Click! Attack, Click! Follow, Click! Sweep. I was amazed how quickly I took him down considering how many wounds I already had. The brawler as a class has many pluses over the marksman in the right situations. But you've gotta use the right tactics.

Click follow your target. When he runs away you will be right behind him. as you chase him use your sweep ability. This knocks him into a kneeling position. He is easier for you to hit, and you are at point blank with him, thus he has penalties to hit you. You also have Intimidate, Blind, and Stun. These will just compound the penalties meaning being hit less often.

Faethor, Great job! I aggree totaly with you on your points. You need to apply for the advisor thing, if you didnt already.

I am sticking with unarmed on my brawler and pistol. I am still ticked off with the fact that pistol can wipe a mob out in 1 or 2 shot while i go toe to toe and get incapped.....again.

The only advice i have for people going this route is to greatly limit the special moves, and get that action bar up. :/

I enjoy playing the brawler and hope to see it get an upgrade.

Well all i can say is look me up on Valcyn. I am a TK, I hit for 325 to 440 and take more damage than any gunfighter unarmored (it is wise to stay that way as well). I trained carbine to specialist and thats it. No complaints here. Ps. My faction as a lance corporal Imperial is -3150 rebel <--- thats from kicking gunfighter arse in PvP. dotn believe me? come duel me.
