Just FWIW, I saw this mentioned by a dev somewhere quite a while ago (sorry, no, I don't have a ref for it). Personally I don't really care one way or the other, just thought it was interesting.


They (Devs) put melee profs in the game mainly because a lot of people out there LOVE to play melee professions. It is still a good question as to WHY a swordsman (just to take one example) is so powerful compared to a carbineer, but this is the sort of prof balancing question the we assume they will take care of in the combat revamp.


But mainly, the answer is that melees are in there cause that is what many people want to play. Personally, I think this is quite a reasonable rationale, but heck, I could be wrong

i dont think you know why. jedi have a little something called RANGED BLOCK. knights clock 85% of all shots! they dont block melee! now be quiet. /whap

If you think melee is so useless then why would the most powerful man in the starwars universe the emperor himself have is personal elite guards wield a melee weapon? Furthermore why would Jabba also picked for his guards to wield vibra axes if they are so useless? Take a good hard look at jabba and what he does. One could assume that lots of people would want him dead and that as a result of his physical condition he is not about to defend himself. I would say that two of the most powerful men in the movie picking these weapons is a good indication of their effectiveness.

Star Wars did have Melee, the word Teras Kasi wasn't created by Star Wars Galaxies, it was made in the universe of Star Wars. And like someone had stated before, watch closely, you'll see a Long Vibro Axe, and several other Polearm's in the movie, several other Melee attacked Luke in Return of the Jedi.

i think there is melle to attract dungeon & dragons style gamer's and ranged combat just isnt as fun
