Thread: Locked Containers
Until you get the Flow Analyzer Node at Slicing II, there is no guarenteed way to slice anything. After you get it, the FAN can be built for 20 metal and 20 copper and can be used when slicing. It will tell you "The power is flowing through the X wire" and that is the wire you cut, where X is either positive(blue) or negative(red) and that has yet to fail me.
Either you need to be a smuggler or find a smuggler to do it.
From what I understand, a novice smuggler has a 50/50 chance of successfully unlocking the container for you.
I saw somebody get one opened in front of them just yesterday, he was so excited when he pulled that used CDEF rifle out, so don't get your hopes too high that whatever you pull out is anything of value.
do you have to give the container to the smuggler? Cause I had a friend with a pretty decent carbine. He let a guy attempt to fix his carbine an he said it dissappeared...
So I'm leery of just giving someone something an hoping they are honest enuff to tell me whats actually in the container.
Darth,
A quick comment about that carbine.
I am an engineer (I have Engineer IV), and I can make weapon repair kits. It'sbeen my experience that these weapon repair kits are horribly broken. Why? Because so far I have repaired 3 CDEF pistols, and one DH17 Carbine. I've had one DH17 Carbine drop to -200/900, two D18 pistols disolve, and one DL44 pistol dissolve (I was experimenting, this was deliberate).
It could be that the person that offered to repair this carbine DID have it dissolve in his hands. In fact, if he was a new Engineer, and this was a decent weapon, this is probably the case. Don't immediately jump to the conclusion that he stole the weapon, more than likely he was trying to be nice, didn't realize the entire weapon repair tool was a broken system, and tried to repair with the critical failure result.
Yes you do have to give the container to the smuggler, but more than likely it'll be crap coming out of it anyway, and generally people are trustworthy. Just follow your guts (and if need be, once I hit smuggler look me up, I'd be more than willing to hack your containers).
Has anyone found any specific groups of NPCs that tend to drop locked containers more than others? Or is it the same across the board, no matter which faction a NPC belongs to?
