Thread: Unarmed Brawling is pretty much worthless..
I can understand working hard towards a goal and have to use strategy and intuition in my adventures, but why in the world should I have to spread my skills over 2-4 different profs. in order to be even SLIGHLTY effective. I dont see Marksmen haveing to use Knives or fists when mobs get close. For the most part they can keep far enough away or they have a weapon that takes em out before the MOB gets even close.
I watched a Novice Marksmen take out 4 MOBS and a Lair taking only two 55 Health hits while if when I tried the same thing with GREENSI get Mobbed and killed.
I know that I could Use the Marksmen skills and the Scout skills and maybe even some Artisan and Droid Eng. Skills (those last two were severe sarcasm) and then I might have a SMALL chance of actually destroying the MOBS and lair on any given lvl 7 destroy mission (with GREEN or LOW BLUE MOBS) but should I really have to? If this sounds like useless complaining then I want every one reading this to even attempt making a Unarmed Brawler (Trando and Wook too) and then track your progress with that of other players. I have had to work my ever living *** off to get where I am and let me tell you its not that far. I have a great hotkey setup and I use as much strategy as anyone can, but I am FAR behind other Professions that started when I do and play less with less effort.
I dont really see how this can get fixed unless other Profs. are forced to group for even SMALL tidbits of EXP and creds or they are forced to spread out their own skills over 2-3 other profs to be effective. Or of course we could figure out how to FIX the Brawler.
The plain fact is Unarmed Brawlers (and possibly other Brawlers)are getting Left behind FAST.

I am doing unarmed just because i want to try Smuggler and i need it, and so far even though i agree with what you are saying about Unarmed being toned down from the other types of combat i am an expert in Unarmed now. The only thing i can say is until they do something positive with this skill go out hunting with someone that wants medic XP or else its going to take forever. I am a Zabrak and my healing is EXTREMLEY slow....so i berserk, kill 2 or 3 thnigs and just sit...not fun. I also played in Beta since the begining of Beta 2 but this is my first Unarmed character. Please DEVS make this one a little better for us. Maybe if you upped the damage or something...maybe gave us some better moves? Something isnt quite right with it now. Thanks.

First, I played an unarmedbrawler in beta, and I play an unarmed one now, and I agree, brawlers have gotten the short end of the stick in recent weeks. But here's a question for you...have any of you noticed that mob brawlers aren't restricted like players are? I was fighting with a pair of brawling swoopers of Jabbas and was forced to run...and they followed, of course, and could keep hitting me with those knives and fists while on the move. Odd...I can't launch any attack when running...
I just started my first character yesterday and I've been trying not let rabbits and other wimpy nabboo creatures kill me. My goal is to just get the unarmed bracket full in brawler and so far it's slow going. It's frustrating because I'll be working my ass off and be about to scrape a victory when some marksman strolls up and takes everything out and then keeps walking like he did me a favor by robbing me of exp. When I tried to take on just one of those giant duck things that was all she wrote.
It's not gonna be easy methinks. I'm probably gonna mess around with pistols and trapping a little bit to get an edge until I have some decent killing ability unarmed.

You need to consider brawlers as group members rather than solo. Then they start to shine. My tiny rodian can take the aggro off of our marksmen very easily (sometimes too easily) and I have the health and action to take a beating. That allows the marksmen to do what they do best... chew up the mob with laser fire. Sure I'd like to see higher numbersfly off the enemy, but I have my role and I enjoy it.
Solo brawler = death
Grouped brawler = hero
Bah, Im gonna make a crafter for now but if this crap doesnt get shaped up soon then SWG will become little more than an expensive set of coasters for me.

indeed, this is precisely the reason why most brawlers avoid groups that include marksmen. it's simply too hard to get a fair share of XP. it takes a decent investment of time for a brawler to find a quality group. may as well just establish a circle of friends who are all interested in leveling unarmed and only group with them...
Yep! Everyone is going to be a marksman cause they OWN everything.

Something fun like crafting or dancing... Something you'll forget later when you need the points.
When you get 8 of these in a group it's halarious.. Nothing lives anywhere near them.. Some primary medic will want a group but honestly who needs him? All 9 group members have a crapload of stims and all can make scout camps.. One always has dancing ability..
They go out and clean house rapid healing themselves since they're all low lvl healers and have no downtime.. They can even remove battle fatigue by throwing down a camp with the scouting skill they all have.
The game is Star Wars: Clone Wars.. Everyone plays the exact same character. The only difference between them only the race.
But our Bezerk was overpowered.. Darn glad they nerfed the only diversity they had in the darn game.
I agree that unarmed is pretty gimpy now.
In beta for a while, unarmed was good because Novice brawlers got something like +60 to unarmed damage. Now you only get +10, so you can't do decent damage at all. This will be somewhat offset once people start making decent vibro knucklers, but until then, unarmed is severely underpowered.
The other brawler types are very effective. I have expert polearm and advanced 1hand/2hand/unarmed, and can easily outdamage marksmen while grouped using any of the weapon based brawler skills. I tend to get on the order of 2-3 times as much XP as the marksmen, even since the berserk nerf due to greater dmg output. I typically hit for 350-400 with my staff while berserked (since the nerf), and my special attacks do 300ish.
Unarmed just doesnt rank up damage wise. I have weapons that I've made myself: a 50-105dmg 4.4 spd staff, 51-158dmg5.1spd axe, and 23-53 2.8spd dagger. The normal hits come in around 120-200, 120-290, 60-120 with those weapons. Regular unarmed hits come in at 30-50, and they're slower than my dagger.
Weapon based brawlers are definitely worthwhile, but Unarmed are not.
I'm trying to get master brawler to pick up intimidate2/berserk2, and I'm not looking forward to getting Master Unarmed.
This needs to be fixed, and all it will take is bumping up the base unarmed damage bonus with novice brawler to something more reasonable, like +30. Or, alternately, bump up the bonus you get when you advance up the skilltree to +10 or +15.
I wish someone would explain this to me.
I'm unarmed brawler/scout and I have been doing great. I play for only a few hours per day and I am 35k from becoming TKA. I solo whites with ease and have very little downtime. When I do camp, I spend the time making traps so my artisian skills are pretty high too. I haven't grouped yet because I haven't needed to. My general concept has been to start be being a Jack of all trades, focusing on unarmed brawling and scouting. I am pretty self-suffcient right now becuase of base medic skills and crafting. As I continue to advance, I plan on becoming more specialized into a TKA, Ranger/CH. I have only died twice so far an I hope this post doesn'tjinx me.
This is not a race,maybe the balster users are leveling up faster, who cares! I have been having a great time just hunting and exploring. I can do the destroy missions wth no problem and make tons of$$$. I have never fired a gun of anykind!
When I read this board it seems like a lot of whining, am I just missing something?
OK, for the people who are touting Unarmed...
First of all, you're probably mostly trandoshans or wookies - they get a higher base unarmed damage bonus than everyone else from what I've seen. Try playing a human unarmed brawler. It also sounds like most of you are soloing. Try grouping, and observe the lack of XP you get. Also, get a decent crafted weapon, try playing another brawler type, and see how much better it is.
Also, I keep seeing people say "I'm fine, I can solo ____ mobs just fine, why are people whining about unarmed? I'ts not a race, so what if we're not up to par?"
Do you understand the meaning of game balance?You should NOT be satisfied withunarmedas the redheaded stepchild of brawling. Read my above post again and look at the numbers - the damage output for unarmed doesn't even come close to any of the other brawler types when using an easily craftable tier 1 or 2 weapon. It's only going to get worse once people can make vibro axes/lances/rykk blades etc.
