I have noooo idea what classifies as a good rifle, and many of the WS's on my server have this same problem. They price cruddy things you can find on the bazaar for 20k, at 1.2mill.... what scares me more is I always see people walk in, buy things and leave.
So what are the stats on your rifle, mine right now is
DP's for me 466.7
SAC 128... which is OWNING ME! I use my scatter just because I can't afford the action cost for the rifle.

Laser Rifle
Damage; 400-1178
DPS 711
SA 70
T21
Damage 500-1300
DPS 680 ( not sure why lower than Laser, weird)
SAC 80

On my server, you can get a t21 or laser for around 1000 max damage and right about 90-100 sac cost, for like 20k - 70k depending on how low sac is, speed, etc. While nothing special, a rifle with those specs would serve you well if PuP'ed properly

sooner or later people are going to wake up and realise DPS means nothing , with the way the CU system is currently structured. SAC and Max Damage are in truth the only real defining stats at the moment. Simple math, really.

Thats not true at all. DPS gives you a good gauge of what you can expect from the weapon. The min & max numbers are very variable based on your accuracy and your target's defense. DPS, min/max and SaC are all important to look at.

your laser rifle has better speed.

people keep saying this but they can't say why. Seems like just a rumor.

"people keep saying this but they can't say why. Seems like just a rumor."
Well, from what I have seen, fastest anyone can shoot/hit is every 2 seconds now, I have a few very fast weapons such as 1.1 modified speed (without pup) and the DPS goes past 540 modified DPS (I think it's 1.1 speed 986 max dmg scatter unpuped) and 1.25 seems to be the capped speed, anything faster than that will be irrelevant and the DPS becomes misleading.
Don't mark my words though, that's just from my experience and word has it is that 1.25 is the hardcap.

you may be correct but "word has it" doesn't convince me.
and it would only mean that modified dps is misleading when the speed is below 1.25. So that would only be conditional.

because it calculates at speeds that you're not really firing at. Max damage does not change and you still cannot fire faster than 1 second (and maybe not faster than 2 seconds) but it still gives you higher DPS.

you're just giving an opinion. I see no facts. And even if 1 sec was the speed cap that would only be a conditional situation where dps is misleading.

Not true. To an elite master who has high accuracy, DPS means nothing since he will not miss as much as a non-master. Since he will not miss as much, then high damage is what he cares about. A non-elite master will benefit from high DPS, which usually means faster fire speed. Since they miss a lot, they want to get as many shots in as possible.
