Thread: suppression fire
Suppression fire now works, and is a MARKSMAN skill. It forces a player down one posture(standing to kneeling, kneeling to prone). And while that might not seem significant, let me provide some statistics:
Fire rate for any master gunman(Bh/pistoleer/carbineer/etc.): 1 second
Time to recover from a kneeling position: 1 second
HAM cost: Basically nonexistant for this skill. The only ham costs sustained are basically the HAM costs incurred by the weapon used. The damage dealt seems to be somewhere in the area of a default attack.(100ish damage a shot).
Basically, this skill is lunge1 minus the extreme HAM cost and the range restriction, and with DAMAGE.
Because of the above, a player can spam this attack and effectively immobalize a player(namely a TKA) and kill them and only lose 1/5th of their HAM. Also, this attack seems to have a minor stun on it(Incapable of healing).
A bit slower than knocking down, but it gets the job done. Just another reason why TKA's can never win. (Please note this is a very easy to acquire marksman skill)
I (2.4.4.3 TKA) was walking around theed and a bunch of reb TKAs came and took me out with KD2. All fun and games when its 4 on 1. And yes, it works against other TKAs. So I get me cloned and head to the street for a fair enough fist fight. So I'm still out numbered and we run around KD2ing each other a bit and I'm getting my ass whooped cause I don't quite have Hit3 yet and the rebs are taking a few unaware imps out with me.
Then, in step some ally imps with their guns. The reb TKAs have no chance with the ranged firepower that joins me. One imp starts laying out the supression fire at the reb TKAs and starts claiming how much he loves supression fire. Now I'm at a conflict of interest. I know how it feels to be the recently nerfed TKA who has no hope of getting near close enough for a shot. I understand that one can never betray their faction but I felt like giving that pistoleer a charging wompa between the eyes.
The point is, he was spamming away supression fire, keeping the TKAs at a safe distance. There is no reason we shouldn't have KD back the way it was. There are sufficient defences against us now and we have no hope in hell of attacking unless we have a ranged backup. And if that doesn't work, theres always kiting.

I'm begining to see masturbation as the best alternative to any sony product.
hey all,
don't know if this has happened to any of you but i dueld a gun user, a pistoleer i belive, today. anyway, so he has a very fast pistol and he beat me (tkm) using nothing but suppression fire. that's all he spammed... over and over... we have something similar called lunge... but lunge does no damage. just wanted to vent. anyone else had this happen to them?
A few others have come here posting about suppression fire being the "new knockdown". Sounds pretty unfair, especially in the same patch that was supposed to nerf knockdowns across the board =)...
Sounds like one hand does not know what the other is doing in SOE land!
I forget who posted it, but there was a funny one posted by a TK Master about a novice marksman PA mate who asked him to duel so he could show him the 'new knockdown'. The TK Master said he couldn't do anything but lie there prone until the guy stopped =(.
Anyone else having them happen to them in actual pvp yet and not just duelling?
Brawlers should just grab their collective ankles and accept the fact that in 1 on 1 duels, where there is enough space to begin with, brawlers will never ever beat a skilled ranged opponent. If you can get to within 15 meters, you stand a chance. But if they know you're coming, there is little you can do. The devs have said that they like it that way. It's not going to change.
At least he just used suppression. Most mix in 2 bleeds and alternate bodyshots. There are certainly fights you can win. Many people aren't good at kiting and will run into stuff. Many people don't know about suppression fire, many people don't have ranged KD attacks. But if you come across a well developed, skilled ranged fighter you'll get killed every time.
All markman can get easily Supression Fire 1 at Novice Marksman Ranged Support 4 (Carbineers get Suppression fire 2).
I don't thinkSupression is no where as near as bad as Underhand Shot or other knockdown moves sinceit just bringsthe target to its knees.
