Thread: Dark clouds on the horizon
(i'm sorry if this gets a little long, but i feel this is an important issue that deserves attention)
Hello. I have been playing SWG since the first month of its release. I love this game and think it could become a very successful game. It has had its rough points, like the recent CU (which i was a little down on at first, but now i love it), and still has many problems. However, i feel that the game can overcome all of these problems except for one. Let me explain...
I started the game as a rifleman/doctor. It took me a long time to master my profession because i had dial-up and had limited playing time (i recently got DSL thank god). However, i recently took up the BH profession (i did not respec, i did it the old fashoined way) because i wanted to kill the jedi; specifically, paddies. Now before you jedi get all upset and call me a griefer, listen to what i have to say. I have never hunted the same jedi over and over again. I agree that this is greifing and should be stopped. However, i feel like i have been griefed everytime i walk out of theed spaceport and see ten jedi standing there fully robed and lightsabres on. This is not KotOR Online! This game is set right after the destruction of the first death star. There were not thousands of jedi at that time! It doesn't fit the timeline. The population is not supposed to be 30% jedi. You jedi are ruining my gameplay and the game that i love. You are griefing me! The jedi are destroying the game!
You may ask why i dislike the jedi so much. The jedi may say i am jealous. This is not true. It would be awesome to be a jedi and I could become one if i wanted, but i chose not to. Why? I feel that the growth of the jedi population will lead to the death of SWG. So, whenever i kill a paddy and set them back, i feel i am helping to save the game.
SOE made a huge mistake letting everyone become jedi. They did it so they could make more money; it's obvious. We all know that the only thing SOE cares about is money. That's just the way it is. And the way i see it, SOE has four options in fixing the problem they created:
1. SOE leaves the game the way it is. The game dies a slow and painful death as all the galaxies are overrun with jedi and players gradually quit. SOE milks it for all the money it's worth.
2. SOE changes the name of the game to KotOR Online and removes all other professions. People quit by the thousands and the game dies.
3. SOE reinstates permadeath. Jedi are slain by the thousands. The jedi community is outraged and leaves. The game then dies.
OK, so the first three are good for no one (the thrid one would be quite funny though). In all three the game eventually dies and SOE no longer has SWG to make money from. Nobody who plays SWG wants the game to die. All the hours of grinding would be lost and we would have to move on to another game, another grind. The fourth option is something i have thought up.
4. SOE changes the whole jedi system.
Proposed Changes
Ok, you still have to become glowy and complete the village to become a padwan. Same as it was before. However, all existing jedi must go back back to this padwan stage. i know this is a bit rough for all you jedi, but it is needed to save the game. There will be five levels of jedi: padwan, jedi, jedi knight, jedi gaurdian, jedi master. The jedi gain skills until they reach the next level (example: a padwan trains until he reaches the jedi level) However, if the die before they reach the next level, they lose all thier skills and go back to their previous level. So say a jedi knight is one skill from becoming a jedi guardian but they die, they lose all their skills they have learned since becoming a jedi knight. It will take players a long time to become a jedi master. It should take almost a year to go from padwan to master if you are never killed. The time it takes to go from level to level should get longer the higher-up in the chain you get. Jedi should also not be able to have other non-jedi professions. However, with these changes, the power of jedi must be substantially increased. A jedi knight should be impossible for any non-jedi to beat one-on-one. They are freakin' jedi for crying out loud. Also, i have one more idea that i think SOE would like. If a jedi dies let's say five times before they reach the next level, they must pay a real-life fee in order to go back to their previous level. Otherwise, they would go all the way back to padwan. Now, obviously this wouldn't apply to the vulnerable padwans, as they would go back to padwan status anyway.
Bounty Hunting Changes
Some changes also need to be made to bounty hunting. Jedi should not be able to group hunt with non-jedi and not gain visibilty. However, they should be able to train with other jedi. I think this will lead to a closer knit jedi community as they must work together to gain levels. However, if they do gain enough vis, they go on the terms. The terminal should show their name, online status, price dependant on the amount of visibilty they have, not level, and their faction. Padwans should only be hunted by one BH, so they can only have one mission on the terms at a time. However, to prevent people form holding their mission, the mission must have a time limit on it, say one day. If the BH is unable to attack the jedi during the time alloted, they fail the mission and are unable to get that jedi's mission again for one week. The jedi goes back on the terms. This way, a person cannot hold their friend's mission. If the jedi is attacked but the jedi wins, they are no longer on the terms. Regular jedi can be hunted by 2 BHs, knights by 3 BHs, and so on. However, with the increase of jedi power, these fights should be more even, but the jedi should still lose 50% of the time. Whoever uses the best tactics should win. This will make the jedi more wary of showing off their jedi powers. However, with the decrease in the jedi on the terms, BHs may run out of missions. Therefore, i believe bounties should be placed on smugglers and other BHs. I don't know how they would get on the terms, but it would add to the number of missions available to a BH.
I think these changes would benefit SWG. People would be upset at the beginning, especially the jedi. However, i believe the true jedi (the non-afk grinders and those who don't end up on the terms everyday) would like these changes. It would get rid of some of the losers who give a bad name to their beloved religion. It would also give them a challenge. Becoming a jedi master would take a lot of patience, skill, and maybe even luck. However, it would be very fulfilling. Not everyone would be able to accomplish this goal. I know all the BHs would accept these changes, even though it means they will be seriously overmatched one-on-one against a jedi.
Please, i would like some feedback from BHs and Jedi on what they think of my proposed plan.
Thank you,

sounds good to me. I like your ideas and i agree that if something isn't changed that this game will die.
well SOE did screw up horribly with the Village. the only way i see to close down the new Jedi is to close the Village. But...
Jedi=Money
Just about everyone i know would quit if they took jedi out.
Yeah i definatly support making jedi as hard as it was Pre CU to do, i was almost completed temp when CU came out and i unlocked in Late December. the jedi grind now is a smack in the face of what i had to and many of my jedi friends went through.
I think mabye making all skills take more xp now, instead of 200k its like 350k or whatnot to correspond with the xp gains doing missions/afk grinding etc. Take out looping macros would fix AFK grind, but then there would be almost no Ents either LOL.
On the Bh note, everybody went bh cuz it was the new way to pvp. Adv. Crtical shot is powerful and it has a crap load of defense too.
They all became BH cos the respec made it easy. And cos MBH no longer has lowerdefences than a master dancer (tis true pre CU), and is actually a good strong base for all other ranged profs.
I kind of liked being the master marks/master scout leper of SWG, it made each jedi kill a lot sweeter knowing your prof was horribly underpowered. Everyone is a BH now cos its an easy route to non jedi power. I hate all the passing 3 week respec BH far more than any jedi, their actions tend to reflect badly on the long term bh on the servers. When you been a bh through all the bad times for the prof (now its at its height, enjoy it while you can) you tend to have a little more respect for the jedi.
That doesnt include the 2 weeks in the Ryatt and I'm a full temp big mouthed leet ninja masta jedi though, I mean the real jedi that had to work for their power.
