Thread: Melee Defense question
Hello fello pikemen,
I am currently a master Pikemen and was wondering if getting my melee defense up and over 100 would help or is it a waste, currently I have about 72 melee defense with clothes on.
Thank You
I got ca 200 melee defense, and let me tell you this; it helps a LOT.. especially with our "block" function not working, or "working" as intended
I get hit about 1 out of 10 times now, sometimes less and sometimes not at all. If you plan on going up against other players, you might wanna get this number as high as possible.
...humm, if anyone knowsI would like to see the cap on melee defences.. I know a maximum of +25 is the cap when getting bonus to a mod, but whatis thelimited amount ofwhich more defense is a waste?
My melee defense is currently 104. When I'm unarmed (or even wielding a rifle which I have some skills with), I don't get hit hard or often by crazed durni (for example). However, when I wield a sword, I get rocked.
This makes me think that melee defense is calculated differently depending on the weapon being used. Is this correct? I don't see any stat for "2-handed melee defense", so I always thought melee defense was melee defense in all cases.
Can anyone explain this to me, or is it yet another bug?

yep, even when I get to Master Sword and Master Pikeman COMBINED, I STILL won't have as much melee defense as a TKA or Fencer.....
Personally, I know people trash pikeman, and the profession is kinda broken, but the area dizzy, area knockdown did me wonders at Ft. Tusken on Saturday night.....I must have racked up close to 150K in xp in like 2-2.5 hours.....
and when Im standing toe to toe with a picket with my dinky spraystick... I barley get hit... at most i get hit 3 times throughout a 5min fight...
Then switch to sword and get hit evrey 1 in 3 attacks... Its not a matter of toughness its a mater of the TO HIT ROLL.
I dont think its calculating corectly for sword.... Needs more testing though to be sure...
evreyne help us out on this one.

Actually, this poster pegged it to a T. I could go out with a spraystick and rarely get hit by anything (the amount of damage is irrelevant; I'm talking hits vs misses). The moment I change to a sword, I'm getting hit left & right.
This tells me that melee defense is calculated based on weapon used, which doesn't make sense.
Anyone else notice this, or can expand on it?

And this is being corrected in the next patch, if I recall correctly. The previous poster was correct. They removed the 2.5x melee modifier, and were supposed to add a to-hit bonus for melee attacks, but they somehow reversed it and gave melee a to-hit penalty against rifle-wielders. This is being corrected.
As far as the to-hit goes for you, gimperial, there is a difference in the to-hit between riflemen and everyone else. When the devs removed the 2.5x damage multiplier from riflemen, they intended to add a to-hit bonus for melee attackers, however, they somehow got it reversed and rifle-holders get a defensive bonus, a not-to-hit bonus of sorts. This is easy to test out, anyone can do it, pick up a cdef rifle, switch to it fighting something in melee, then switch to your given (non-dodge/counterattack stacked) elite melee weapon and you can see the difference, you get hit less with the rifle even if you have 0 rifle skills.
