Thread: becoming a bounty hunter

My friend and I are quite confused as to the process of becoming a Bounty Hunter. 1 is what I think, 2 is what my friend thinks:

1) By pressing Ctrl+S while in the game and selecting the "Novice Bounty Hunter" box, the bottom of the Skills window says that "this skill requires 40,000 Combat Experience." So, once you get 40,000 Combat XP, you can become a Novice Bounty Hunter by finding a Bounty Hunter Trainer.

2) When you press Ctrl+S and look at the Bounty Hunter profession as a whole, you notice two professions below Bounty Hunter: Marksman and Scout. You must first become a Master Scout and Master Marksman, get the 40,000 Combat XP, THENyou can become a Novice Bounty Hunter.

Now, which one of us is right? I think the game makes it quite clear...you get 40,000 Combat XP, and you're a Novice Bounty Hunter. My friend thinks the game DOESN'T make it clear, and he's not quite sure which was is right.

The only problem with my friend's idea is the amount of skill points required. To master a given profession, you must have a total of 77 skill points. So, Master Scout/Marksman =154 skill points.

Now, to go on and become a Master Bounty Hunter, you need another 89 skills points. Uh oh...Houston, we havea problem. 154 + 77= 231.

Now, if you've mastered the three professions...BH/Scout/Marksman, you only have 29 points to use in other areas. Wow, talk about tight point usage.

Are either of us right, or are we both totally wrong? Help?

Your friend is right. You have to master Marksman and Scout to become a Bounty Hunter, and yes it is a tight rope.

Incip is absolutely right. if you look at all the hybrid classes, BH is the hardest one to get! this is done in part the same reason jedi is so hard to be; to keep the numbers low. if all you had to do was kill off a few creatures in an hour then everyone would be a BH!

I think that your friend is right so i agree with the other posters... however i thought i would suggest another method for skill calculation...

Master Marksman = 77

Master Scout = 77

Master Bounty Hunter = 63 ( 6 for novice, 56 for the 4 skill lvls of the 4 skills, and 1 skill point for master)

Grand Total : 217 Skill points

Leaving you with 33 to dabble in another field much better than the 19 you had calculated.

Cloud130, most of the people I've played with wanted to be something OTHER than Bounty Hunter...I don't think THAT many people want to be one (just because of the difficulty)

I wish the game was a little more clear about the skills needed to become a Bounty Hunter. Rather than just saying, "You must acquire 40,000 Combat XP before learning this skill" for Novice Bounty Hunter, it should go on to say, "You also need to master the Marksman and Scout skill trees."

I am probably doing this wrong so please straighten me out. I thought you had to master all the weapons in marksman; rifle, pistol, carbine etc...to be a master marksman to become a bounty hunter...do you only have to master 1 weapon?? Please let me know if I have been wasting my time instead of concentrating on 1 weapon!!

The game is actually pretty clear on what you need. If you look at any skill tree, other than the starting professions, you will see a list of what professions that skill tree relies on. If you double click the profession name, it even takes you to that profession. If the profession is a prerequisite for another profession, then the more advanced profession is listed above the skill that is required for it.

So, with the BH, you'll notice it says both Marksmen and Scout. Going to the Marksmen tree, you'll see that Bounty Hunter is listed above Master Marksmen. Going to the Scout tree, you'll notice it says Bounty Hunter above Master Scout.

Granted, it would have been nice if they listed both Master Marksmen and Master Scout in the pop-up when you hover over Novice Bounty Hunter. But then, so would have a bright pink neon sign. And the neon sign wouldn't have required a mouse over.

I'm glad they're making the skill costs of a BH so high, I'm up to the challenge and those that aren't will make my BH that much more special. The only concern is when the expansion comes out, how good a starfighter pilot I can make him as well. Hmmmm, may have to give up some hunting skills.

MadHatter, you are correct, in order to become master Marksman or Master scout, you need all skills in the tree, as well as 620 apprentiship points which you get from training other people in skills. They make it hard, but for those of us willing to take the challenge, I think it will be rewarding.

Bounty hunter is the ONLY elite profession that requires you MASTER two beginner skill trees.

It is to try and keep people away. Too many people are bounty hunters. Sigh.

Morpheeuss, acctually I think you need 620 x2 aprentice points, since masteries of both (Marksman and Scout) require 620 apprentice points. If you use the 620 to train master of one, in theory you might not have the 620 to master in the other. Just my take on it, I'm not quite there yet (almost) so I could be wrong.

Recap of requirements:

-- Novice attained in Marksman

-- Novice attained in Scout

-- Specialization skill level (attained not working on. In other words, must be *trained* in) in each of thecolumns inMarksman (Rifle, Pistol, Carbine, Ranged Support)

-- Specialization skill level (attained not working on. In other words, must be *trained* in)in each of the columns in Scout (Exploration, Trapping, Hunting, Survival)

-- Master in Marksman. Requirements: Specialization in all 4 categories in Marksman and 620 Apprentice points

-- Master in Scout. Requirements: Specialization in all 4 categories in Scout and 620 Apprentice points

-- Novice Bounty Hunter. Requirements: Master Marksman, Master Scout, and 40,000 Combat experience

Once your master in Scout and Marksman, your gonna kinda hang in profession-limbo for a little, because you'll be master in both marksman and scout but not your third profession yet. Instead you be working towards *becoming* a bh. That's what the 40k combat exp is for.

Side Note: You can max one profession then do the other, but you'll make your life alot better if you do both at the same time because they compliment each other so well. Like using carbines and then using your camp afterwards to help you heal up.

In a nutshell, complete Marksman and Scout to the *fullest* extent possible (including mastery), then get yourself 40k combat experience and go train in bh.

Side Note: You shouldn't need 40k combat experience, you should acctually be getting that allready. Even though 40k is the requirement you'll wind up with needing less than that.

Here's the final breakdown (from someone who almost a BH Novice).

You need to "Master" Marksman which includes all four columns. You need 620 Apprentice XP to get the "Master" Title.

You also need to "Master" Scout, again this includes all four columns and another 620 Apprentice XP to get the "Master" title.

Then you will need 40k in combat XP in order to be trained as a "Novice Bounty". - YES, this is in addition to all of the Combat XP you needed for the Ranged Weapon Column under Marksman.

Then to become a Master BH, you must again complete all four columns and have another 620 Apprentice XP.

To doubt my word would be to deny yourself of the truth as it is beyond contestation.

I have Master Marksman and Master Scout and I am only 25k in combat XP away from Novice BH. Wanna Duel? :-)
