Bounty Hunter Archive
Thread: What has happened to this community?
I feel that the problem actually began with the holo grind. Once jedi became more plentiful and all of the powergamers began to get a jedi, the BH/Jedi populations began to rub eachother the wrong way.
Bounty Hunter was always a revered profession, as you stated, but when the respec process let anyone that wanted BH to become one, we lost the small percentage of true BH's that slaved through the proff cause they loved it and gained a huge group of people that took BH because they wanted to be a viable ranged warrior along with their other ranged proff. I'm not saying anything bad about respecs, it's more about the fact that SOE pretty much made the specials in BH (post CU) so appealing that any ranged proff wanted to get BH as a second, if not first, ranged proff along with rifles, carbines, pistols, etc.

I stated in another thread that it's really sad to think that there was less mud-slinging and whining between these two proffs back when there was still permadeath.
I am literally a game noob, just4 months playing, butwhen the game wasn't even out and this forums were just discussing what a BH would be, there were some good ideas for bounties being placed on characters that wereviolating minor rules of welfare, so the bounty was a sort of in-game punishment.
Since much before than that, I loved the concept of the SW Bounty Hunter, and since I started wandering those forums, I had clear in my mind that my char would be a Bounty hunter. But well, things didnt go as expected and I didnt get my game till march this year, when most things were already rolling up. I love the game, but What am I?a Pistoleer in my way to be a slicer. And why? BecauseI don't like PvP.
Some people have made their points already and I agree with them: I like the game, but I also have a life outside I must attend, so I cannot spend my gaming time dying in the hands ofpeoplewhose lives are dedicated to this game. No, I don't have neither the time nor the will to learn every little corner of this game, and thus I don´t want to compete with people who has the advantage of experience and better knowledge. My gaming style is for a person capable of cooperative interaction, but not competitive, and much less with the grudges we can read everyday in both the BH and the Jedi Forums.
Now, I´ve realized I can´t do all I want without having an alt, so I'm going for Jedi. Can you believe I am coming to get informed about the profession and what is awaiting for me scares me? Jedi players with horrible attitudes declaring war on BHs, BHs with horrible attitudes mocking their killed marks... Guys, what you have out there is an all-out war nobody likes. I just want to play my jedi, my alt, and forget you all exist, because your war is not my business. I am not a PvP, so expect me to run away and log off at thesmallest sign of danger.
Hey! Im on Kettemoor also! Now that's aside.
What has happened to the community? In my opinion, this goes along with what SuperStarwolf has alread mentioned, but it's the fact that both of these professions can be seen as the so called 'end game' for a lot of people. When nothing else is left todo you either PvP or become Jedi.
Alot of BH posts say that the fun was fighting an 'intelligent' opponent. Why doesn't everyone go special forces then? Now I go special forces for some GCW all the time and the result? I get ganged by 4-5 people. What fun is that? With BH I can force the other person to 1 vs 1 fight me.
Alot of Jedi posts say that Jedi is the end game for them. Who can blame them, how many times can you run seek and destroy quests before you become completely bored. How many Long Vibro Lances can you loot... wait the CU fixed that
, but i digress. How many professions can you grind, etc. Before you get bored and want something new.
And there within lies the problem. You have 2 classes pitted against each other, played by the same people. 'end gamers' You can't expect them to get along, because each of them think that they have vanquished the biggest bear there is, PvP'd the best of the best, killed the ugliest pink purple eater, climbed the highest, ran the farthest, ate the most, cycled the best, hit the farthest drive, bought the best car, has the prettiest wife, has the most money, the smartest kids, etc.
And thus the contention between the 2 classes, as also reflects in real life. It's a competition. And as in real life nobody want's to admit that someone is better than them. Because 'I' know for a fact that I'm 10x better than anyone else, and if 'I' loose then the other side must have an advantage. Or the system is unfair. Which leads to the forums that we have now.
jedi, more or less have the same problems as the BH community have.
I was once proud of being a jedi. I'm not that proud any more.
The thing that makes me sad is the jedi complaining about the xp loss now. They don't realize that it have become easier than it was. You don't lose xp on pve OR pvp death any more. Only to a bh whit your mission. devs have made it so you don't get vis from your group mates too. So now its in the hands of the jedi to be on the terminal or not(it have always been that, but after cu, as every one knows, you have to group for faster xp).
To be honest I don't like that the game mechanics allow for player bounty's, but at the same time its a bit exciting knowing that you are never safe. I'm a full template and are still a little "scared". You never know when you meet a bh who know his prof.
Whit the new fixes its easier to live whit it also. The system cant be used to grief 1 player, I just hope that when the FRS is online again that the bh get some kind of warning on the mission that its a ranked jedi.
So a bh can say "no, that's too hard for me, I'll take an unranked one" or for some one to say "finely, a challenge!"
I'm normally not on your forum reading, but some bh's have posted on the jedi forum whit some good thoughts. I believe this is a good thing. The threads are constructive and might help both sides to "calm" a little and hopefully help some to realize a thing or two. If we can manage that, then we are on a good way to change this bad attitude we have a gains each other and just maybe manage to change it to some thing positive again....
Just some thoughts from the "enemy" on the other side of the fence

everyone has a choice...
Indeed... one of the major drawing points for me is the factional PvP and the BH/Jedi system. If I wanted to play a PvE game, I'dve stuck with EQ2.
I agree that both the holo grind and the curb have impacted the BH community. The holo grind was the gateway to the slew of jedi that now roam the servers. The Curb has just facilitied this even more with making Kash a "Safe Place" to play and grind out your template. There will always be some type of angst between Jedi and Bounty Hunters which is understandable.
From what I have seen the real fights taking place in the BH forums lately are BH vs BH, Old school vs. Respec. Old school Bh's are set in their ways and are used to hunting a certain and efficient way which has made them famous and tons of credits. The grind through investigation 4 was a long hall and well worth it. Their view of the new system is a complete nerf of what they have come to love. Nothing was more fun than hunting a master pre-curb.
The curb then took place and a new class of BH'rs appeared. These Bh's were eager to hunt Jedi and cash in like their fellow brethern have in the past. However this eagerness caused a lot of repec Bh's to jump the gun and become very frustrated with the proffession. It was the few of this majority that revitalized the hatered between Jedi and Bounty Hunters by crying nerf on the Jedi.
If the proper time was put into learning the proffession instead of crying nerf, the forums would not be as heated as they are now. The old school bh's need to learn to accept the Respec Hunters and show them the ways of hunting and preparing properly. A jedi hunt is very different from your normal PvP, it is all about timing and oppurtunity.
However it has been a dark day for the proffession with publish 20. Yes there are pros and cons for the publish, but I will not address this at the time. All I will say is having the supposed jedi being on-line on the terminal is nice, but I would rather have the Jedi on my friends list and sift through the numerous bounties to find my mark.
