Thread: Player Bounty System: New

Alright, people have asked for more player bounties, but i want to put down a real system and see what you guys think.
New Player Bounty
As of right now, a Bounty Hunter can only hunt jedi. We've had this same situation ever since the introduction of experience loss instead of skill loss for jedi. When the Bounty Hunter would kill the jedi, he would be payedin cash, while the Jedi would lose experience. If the jedi won, he'd of removed a little visibility. It made hate, flaming, griefing, and exploiting rampant amongst these fights.
What i propose is a system involving ALL professions, and have good rewards for both sides, with small punishments.
First off, the way the Bounties are held willbe differentwhen facing other players than jedi. When a Bounty Hunter picks up a player mission, the first Bounty Hunter to engage (assault) the target will be the only one who can collect on that person. The rest will recieve a "Mission Incomplete" message. A Mark can "survive" the encounter by either killing the bounty hunter, or avoiding death for 3 days. Whether the mark Loses or Wins, he'll be granted immunity for a week. The TEF system will change a little, after engagement, the TEF will last for 30 minutes, or until the mission is completed/failed.
Factional
The first system would be factional, and is quite simple. This would only effect those involved within the GCW.
When a player would reach a certain amount of positive faction within their chosen side, they would be placed on the bounty hunter terminals starting at 50,000 at above 5,000 faction points. The higher above this amount, the more the bounty, until it would hit the limit of 150,000c/15,000 faction. If the Mark is killed by the Bounty Hunter, the Mark will lose 5% of their current faction, and the Bounty Hunter gets paid. If the Mark wins by the rules of survival above, he'll gain 5% of their current faction.
Contraband
The second is contraband. Whenever a player is found holding contraband, instead of a fine, a system of visibility would be implemented. Instead of death in these missions, it would only be incapacitation. If the Mark loses, he would pay a fine of 10,000. If the Mark wins by the rules of survival above, his visibility is cleared.
Professions
The following bountieswill be seperated into the3 types of professions: Combat, Entertainer, and Crafter.
Combat
The combat professions will be on another Faction system, but not involving the GCW. The current NPC faction (Jabba, valarian, jawa, tusken, etc.)system in place would work well for this. When a player reaches 5,000 negative experience in an NPC faction, a bounty will be placed upon his head. If the Mark loses the encounter, he will an hour long (of playtime)combat debuffdebiliting his abilities, damage, and HAM. If he wins the encounter, he'll recieve a combat buff enhanciing his abilties, damage, and HAM.
Body Guards
Thetwo non-combat sections, Entertainers and Crafters, will be able to hire a Body Guard. A combat profession (which you'd hopefully choose over a non-combat profession) can go under an agreement using the new "Hire" ability given at noviceDancer/Musician and novice Armorsmith/Weaponsmith/Architect/Droid Engineer. Only one Body Guard can guard a player at any given time, and can only assist when theMark is being assaulted by a Bounty Hunter with the Mark's mission, and be within 100 meters when thetwo engage. The Bounty Hunter will have to attack the Body Guard first, and wait ten seconds until the Mark is attackable (to give the mark a chance to escape).
Entertainer
Entertainers will have anew mission option, available at Novice Dancer, and Novice Musician. These missions will pay 200,000 credits, and will involve the dancer/musician going to a famous spot to perform for someone Prestigious (jabba, orperhaps the emperor, nym, etc.)for 10 minutes. After this time, the Prestigious patron would decide whether or not he was pleased. If he was pleased, he'll give you extra credits (up to an additional 100,000). If he was not, you will instantly be on the Bounty Hunter terminals. The chance of him being pleased will be increased depending on whether the Entertainer is a master of their elite profession, and the dance they do.
The entertainers payment, however, will not be instant. They will recieve a Credit Disk. If the patron is pleased, the 200,000 plus the tip can be cashed in immediately. If not, the 200,000 Credit Disk can not be cashed in until4 hours of play time spent within a City Cantina (non-player city). If the mark is unsuccessful at surviving the Bounty Hunter encounter, he will lose the 200,000 Credit Disk, and the Bounty Hunter will be payed 100,000. If the Mark is successful at surviving the Bounty Hunter, he'll be able to continue his stay at the cantina without interruption, and be able to cash in the Disk.
Crafters
Crafters will also have a new mission option, available at Novice of all the elite crafting professions. The system will be the same as above, but involving the production of an item. The chance the patron is pleased upon the item depends on the item's quality.
And that's that. Tell me what you guys think.
So you want my CL 23 nov Medic, Nov pistols to be hunted by a full template jedi? How about Factional armorsmiths? I don't think they'll like that very much. Screw that. Before I even have enough faction to buy a storm trooper I'd get Hunted by a BH? No way.
Plus, in this system their is possibility for exploitation since the mark could actually recieve a bonus if he wins while the BH would recieve no penalties.... I'd pay a BH to take a fall if I got to keep my faction.... at those prices it's only 10 CPU!!!! I can pay him and come out ahead!
Wanna do faction based.... go off of the participation in the destruction of GCW bases. Cash bonus only for the BH, nothing for the mark.
Everyone has contra band.... again, my cl 23 toon is gonna get jacked because she runs around with a half sliced pistol and some free armor that was sliced. No, only PvP participation of some sort or some kind of agreement should grant possibility of being hunted. Not that I could see anyone hunting her for 10k credits except for people that wanna grieve noobs.
Once again, you bring into play the possibility of low CLs being involved in this BH system. Through one way or another you have made EVERY ONE who plays the game at risk of being jacked by a BH. That's not a good game plan, for anyone. Least of all SOE who will recieve more cancelations than bug reports.
This section has some merit to it, but only because of the ability to hire a body guard. Presumably you'd already be friends and decide to split the cash, etc. Needs some work though..... you want me to attack the body guard first? then I have to wait 10 sec to attack the mark? Simple. KD / Root....... run for the mark, get within 65-80 meters (not very far if I'm already within 100m), then KD, adv crit, etc..... dead mark in about 4 seconds. Then who cares if I get killed by the body guard.
Misc.....
- Being huntable needs to be something that is entered into by an agreement that either provides an exlusive content for the mark (being a Jedi), provides per time exclusive reward (smuggler mission/bounties), or is invoked for a short period because of other PvP actions.
- any time you give a bonus to the mark if s/he survives you open the system to exploitations
- Not everyone wants to be hunted.... if they did, they'd all run around as Overts. So don't makes such largely encompacing requirements.

Sounds like a new and better way to grief other players.
Although I do agree BH need something better than targets that are 1.5 times stronger than they are. Although I think a good change would be allowing gank squads back, grouped BH and all get the same mission. There are to many jedi as is, I don't think adding non-jedi to the terms is a good idea because by becoming a jedi you choose pvp, it'sone of the main thingsjedi are made for, a lvl 1 AS though should never have to expect another player to attack them out of the blue, if they wanted to pvp they would go BH or Jedi.
Another idea seeing as jedi and BH are both chosen pvp templates I think they should be even in stregnth.
Bingo.... gotta love killin those CL 23 noobs that have a second hand sliced pistol, they got viz after failing an inspection. "I only get 10k for it... but it's so much fun to make a noob quite the game."
You still can...... think about it. If you don't figure it out.... ask another BH.
Okay, you wanna make 'em even? Good, we'll add the following....
- 2 weeks worth of errands before you can train Nov BH
- 4.5 months minumum wait time of doing more errands and grind before training in a single inv box
- 30 mill xp to master BH.... at 1k xp per kill, so you have to kill 30 k creatures.... that's about 800 - 1k in lairs depending on type.
You wanna be as strong as a jedi.... okay.... you get the same grind as a jedi.

This was a basic skeleton of an idea, not a full blow system. Many balances and changes would be made to this, of course. There could be many other restrictions, like being only level 80. Just don't take every word of this to heart, it's the idea i'm try to sell here. As for your comments in Purple, That would mean getting a quality Body Guard, wouldn't it? One that could, perhaps, root/KD you? Anything you could do to them, they can potentially do to you.

Then work on it a little more before you put it in front of the whole player base to be scrutinized.... and expect you will get some negative feedback with the positive.

hell yeah! that's what I'm talking about! Although why not make it a bit more intresting and make killing PC jedi's give you great XP too.
Yes you can have more than one BH get the same missionm but it's to random, could take hours before you get the same one. Total pain!
No more or less random than the days of the names.

Well, you could one shot kill crafters. That might be kind of fun. ![]()
PS One of my alt's is a level 3 crafter. I am expressing my pain. LOL
Ummm, add 2-5 min per mission listed to check if it's the same person. I think you know what I'm saying...
