Carbineer just died. Go up pistoleer and have novice medic if you solo a lot.

My goal is to master Critter handler(not holo chasing) and I want a semi-ranged weapons skill that I can use. I need to be close enough to my pet to use stems, but from what I have read of rifles, the closer you get, the worse they get. So, I see that I have a choice between carbineer and pistoleer.

AsI read on the boards about both of them, I see they both have problems. Carbines have high HAM costs to the user and requires a stem use every so often that I could be using that time to heal my beloved pet (I have direct experience). However, the next patch(between now and the turn of the century) should fix some of it(how much, I don't know).

Pistoles, I do not have that much experience with, but the boards read that they are the weakest weapons skill.

I have been incaped as a carbineer, pistoleer and rifleman. The reason I choose Carbines and pistoles is the close in fighting. As a rifleman, I HAVE to stay at a distance and this is not good when trying to heal my pet.

I would be going for master carb or pistol. Which would best compliment master critter handler?

I can't comment on Carbines, but rifle is way better than pistol. You'll be able to take down creatures at a decent pace, as opposed to 'plinking' away with a pistol.

I've done both Master Carbineer and Master Pistoleer with my MCH and I've got to tell you it's pistols all the way. Carbineer you spend entirely too much time healing yourself unless you've got a full set of buffs and the only real benefit to Carbineer is the area attacks, which you can get in pistoleer with Fanshot. If something get's past your pets or aggros on you as a Carbineer you're pretty much screwed because the Carbineer's knockdowns don't work at point blank. Carbineer is supposed to be getting a dizzy shot in the next patch, but unless you do a lot of PvP that wouldn't really help you.

Well there are a couple of different ways to look at this I guess. One way is which weapon will keep me closest to my pet so that I can heal him (or her for those serious RPers) and the other way is which weapon will do the most damage to aid my pets in taking down the creature they are fighting.

Since almost release I have been a CH and with that I have been pistoleer, carbineer, and currently going up rifleman so I guess I am qualified to make a comment here!! I went up pistoleer for two reasons, one was so that I could stay close to my pets and the other was because the specials and bleeds did health damage which is primarily what my pets do. The problem with pistols is the damage is really low and with no AP your pets have to fight that much longer which means they take that much more damage.

Carbines were all right but the HAM costs and the broken specials really killed that profession for me. I really wanted to become a carbineer at the beginning of the game so this was rather sadening to me. There is also the fact that the defenses are a little lower too. At least we had an AP2 gun though which was nice.

With rifles, my damage is a lot higher than both the other guns even on normal shots. I am only 2,0,1,1 so far and I am doing really good damage and I have a couple of nice specials which helps me deal the damage so my pets don't take so much.

I know thatwith rifles I can't stay close to my pets to heal them but through my experience I am able tokill whatever I am fighting before my pets areanywhere close to needing a heal. Mind you I haven't fought any huge things like Kimogilas or Krayts etc. but I have takendown10K-12K ham critters without having to heal mypets until after the battle is done. Besides what is the worst that will happen by you running from 60m to 5mjust to throw a heal on your pet? You might miss a few times??

Anyway, that is my lease on things. Hope that helps.

As a former master carbineer / master ch, I can say with confidence carbine is a wonderful partner for CH, especially the carbineer ranged knockdown.

Whenever a creature is attacking you, or someone you dont' want to be attacked, just knock it down and sic the pet on it and instantly the agro is transferred to the pet. Its extremely effective and efficient.

Also, now that most creatures have low energy resist and light armor or none, the laser carbine with its medium armor piercing ability is a monster of a weapon, dishing out tons of damage at the master carbineer level.

I can whole-heartedly recommend carbineer without regret.

I am so happy to report that I am just 10k from Master Carbine! *Counting on fingers and toes that means forty more Maulers to kill* I have to agree about the Handler and Carbine combo though. I love having a pet use dizzy on a target and popping them with the knock down. So many nice bonus hits on them! The only drag is the combat XP grind but that is the same across all the combat professions. The key really is to just pick something that you like to work with though. Keep looking until you do.
