Thread: Armour:- it isn't the be all and end all everyone seems to think

So many posts lately focus on armour and how recon is the only one a jedi hunter can use. Do the maths people, the % gained in using a 6k resist assault/battle or a 7.5k+ energy resist suit of armour is negligable.

I have never worn recon armour, my template has never allowed it. I've always worn assault or battle and tho i lose some battles, i win far more than i lose,it certainly isn't down to the armour i'm wearing. Knowing your template, above all else is the deciding factor in jedihunting. A post a little further down asked the poster if he seriously wore BH armour when hunting... why shouldn't he? Ever since i got my BH armour, i've worn it hunting jedi, before that, some 6k resistpadded battle armour. OK, its modded to the hilt withacc/speed tapesand 5 pieces are adk'd but i seriously doubt that the extra % gained by a recon suit would make that much of a difference.

With the correct ca's and aa's a 6k resist suit of armour can do as good a job, if not betteras a 7.5k resist suit. don't be fooled into thinking that only recon wearing BH's are the only uber hunters around

You make valid points, but let me counter that with a thought.

If it truly comes down to it and you are fighting someone that is of roughly equal skill/template wouldn't you rather have the best possible equipment, because they sure as heck will. Now I know that situation doesn't happen all of the time, but that 5% can make the difference in some fights. I have had a fight with a BH that has lasted for an hour. I eventually won becausehe just couldn't keep uphis mind. But at the same time Iwas close to the bottom of my force pool. 5% over a period of an hour is a lot of extra healing and thus a lot of extra mind drain. If he did have that recon armor on I may not have been able to get him.

Agreed. I wear either my Scout Trooper or Tantel armor, both which are 8000+. I have seen a DEFINATE difference between how much I have to heal during a fight when wearing composite or BH armor over recon.

The difference between 6K energy and 8k energy resist is roughly 17%

that 17% can make a HUGE difference...

However it is true that you can win with other armor... as you say... but it is a bit harder and you will defiinitely have to heal alot more.

Probably a silly question..... but has anyone tried fighting with bio clothing on?

With the new changes to bio clothing it's possible to wear the following CRAFTED pieces:

+15/+15 melee/ranged defense bando\

+15/+15 melee/ranged defense jacket

+15/+15 melee/ranged defense undershirt

+15/+15 melee/ranged defense pants

The MBH/MRM/4xxxCM combo has 215 ranged defense and 140 melee defense innate. This would bump those numbers up to 275 ranged and 200 melee. The you can add 2 akuaian rings for another 10 ranged making it 285. THis is all cheap 50k items. When you add in some +25 melee defense tapes, it might work. Anyone have any experience trying this?

I did this same thing for my jedi, then someone told me that the cap for clothes OR CA/AAs was +25. So only two shirts might be worth it.

You won't get bonuses beyond +25 with BE clothes. So you can't stack all those defense clothes. Sure it is added to your totals in character sheet and skills sheet but it doesn't have an effect over +25.

I fully accept the replies toall the posts, however, for those Jedi hunters, like myself who are not certified for recon, i'm merely stating that it IS NOT a pre-requisite that you need recon armour to successfully hunt jedi. The guy who said 'my recon is 8100 and is miles better than xxxx' (or something like it) yes, for YOUR template i totally agree.

If you put a jacket on doesnt it take off your chestplate armor? does for me?

BTW I did buy a +14/+14 melee def and range def bandolier last night for 7K... pretty good deal I thought although it did make me take off my backpack in order to equip it....

I also got a +17 HE shirt for 40K...

Then you can't lump all "Jedi hunters" into the same group.

I am certified for all 3 armor sets with my template, and quite frankly the recon is the best. So if you want "the best" then change your template. If you want "the best assualt" armor you can get, then do that. It's up to you and your sytle. Don't let someone tell you that you suck because you don't have what they do.

8100 Recon armor IS better hands down in terms of protection than 6000 Assault. It just is, there is no question about. The question is, can YOU be effective with teh 6000 and can the recon people be effective with their 8100?

Recon has the best 'energy' resists.. itISN'T the best armour. quite simply, as stated before, i'd much rather wear 6k resist battle armour and know my template inside out than wear 8trillion resist recon and not know my template.. the former would win every time, worn by anyone

My original post, was basically saying that, not, my armour is the best... It was meant to be constructive and to give heart to the newer Bounty hunters who think that recon is THE ONLY armour to have to hunt marks successfully.
