You could try Droping Master Brawler and use the points on the pikeman technique tree.

Hi all, im doing a PvP template and had a question I hope can be answered easily) Im going Master swords, Master Brawler, Fencer 1440, and pistoleer 1040, and novice medic. Seeem like this template has great def against state changes, and with the power of Swords I should be able to do well in PvP. Question is, Will dodge work while holding my PH? I left the game for awhile and not sure if anything has changed. Thanks for your help!

No dodge won't work while holding your powerhammer. I would drop pistoleer with that template also. The only special you have is HS2 and Fan shot. And let me tell you, fan shot is a huge dissapointment. I assume you want ranged so you can stop people from kiting you? If your just picking it up for the dodge mod, then get some TKA, meditate or something.

I'm sure he is picking up 1040 in pistoleer for the defenses vs states, not actually using a pistol. That branch also gives ranged mitigation. That being said, I would drop pistoleer. I think it is a waste of skill points. If it's defenses you're looking for, then try master swordsman/master fencer/master brawler/TKA 4300/novice medic. This doesn't quite cap your ranged/melee defense, but you could do TKA 4003 or 0304 instead if the defenses were that important to you. This template also leaves you with very high state defenses, and if by some miracle you do get knocked down, then you will pop back up very quickly because of your high combat equilibrium. In addition, you don't have to master fencer, I just thought it would be nice to be effective with a third damage type. If you didn't want to go master fencer, you could do master swordsman/fencer 4440 /master brawler/TKA 4304/novice medic purely for the defenses.
All in all, if you want to pvp as a swordsman, you will HAVE TO get speed capped to be truly effective.
Just some thoughts
Oh and I forgot to mention that meditate is nice for getting rid of bleeding/disease/poison and for healing your own wounds. That's why I included it. Not to mention force of will can be very handy in PvP

Thanks for the responses! Going all melee was my first choice. BUT, after looking at the template for all melee like you suggested or pistol/melee, I would be giving up 30 def vs. blind, 25 def vs. stun, 35 def vs. dizzy, 30 def vs. knockdown, and 25 dodge by going the all melee route. On the other hand, i would be gaining 10 def vs. posture change, about 60 melee def, +3 melee mitigation, 70 combat equilibrium, 15 def acuity, and +10 alertness. So the question comes down to, do the benefits outweigh the losses? Remember i want strictly a PvP template. Do you think the extra state defenses are worth it or not? BAH! What to do, What to do....

hm... if you dont know, the def.vs stun and those state defenses only stick with the profession you have, lets say if you are a fencer and a rifleman, those crazy defenses on the fencer tree wont apply if you are using a rifle. so if i were you i would drop the pistoleer, maybe master swordsman cause they really really blow in PvP unless you max out on the speed, and get master rifleman and tkm and master brawler..
oh i jsut remembered, even though the state defenses wont stack, the melee def and ranged def would, so as tkm and master rifleman and master brawler you would have 122 ranged def and 107 melee def which is notfar from cap.basically tkm can take on those melee enemies and rifleman is for those ranged enemies who would try and kite you.

No No No!! State defenses DO stack accross professions. Yes state defenses will be important for you as a PvP swordsman, the most important of those being Defense vs. KD and posture change. I'll let you figure out how you want to do this, but let me just say if you're looking for a pure PvP template that uses swordsman as the main profession, then you will NEED skill tapes to get to the speed cap.
BTW, I looked up your template on a character builder, and your state defenses are much more than the all melee template I listed. Plus your melee/ranged defense was WAY too low and your posture change defense was actually a bit lower. The benefit to having the pistol tree is that you get ranged mitigation 2, which is nice.
Ultimately it's your choice, and choose what fits you and what you like.

lol u have to be speed capped???
tell that to the 30+ imps that die by my sword everyday... with 80 speed.
a swordsman who knows what they r doing doesnt need to be speed capped...
im not saying it doesnt help but can surely be "truly effective" without them. o and u don thave to have uber weps or equipment either.

I've got something similar. TKM, Fencer M, Novice Medic, Pistoleer xx4x and some left over. I did this to get the state defenses and to add an acid, energy, heat weapon to my arsenal. It works alright but still get owned by Combat medics. Fun though because you can stay with most.

Mine isn't too far, except I just did 4440 Fencer and then did 0340 Pistoleer. Better defenses and I don't use fencing weapons in combat, I just wanted the defenses. It does kinda suck not having medic though.

I was wondering how good would this template be against another jedi and non-jedi.
Master LS
Healing 4004
Enhancement 4302
Powers 0040
We get a lot of regen and max force. The intimidate and weaken sound really good... dont know if they are bugged though. Master ls doesnt hurt and we get the healing that is needed and channel force etc. So any comments if this is a good template or even an old template and how well does it do in overall pvp. I am really into pvp and im making my jedi to be a great one, so any tweaks or comments would be greatly appreciated
