I had worked for the Federal Protective Services here in Jackson, Ms for four years with the U.S.A.O (us atty ofc). I spoke with a former lawyer with the USAO and he just laughed. It is only a threat from the player.

Freaking sad what people will say and do on this game. I would con't to hunt thatd!ck on game regardless of supposed RO.

I'm just pointing out, if you get on here and say, "We all need to kill this guy over and over again," and he gets killed a couple times by you in game, it makes a great case for him to take to CS and point to the posts and say, "They were out to harrass me."

Ok, I believe this could be possible. There are a few things to remember though, evidently these players know each other in real life. They live in the same county according to the screenshots in a earlier post. However this situation is unique, and I have a feeling there was much more to this story than was given out. There were references to other screenshots, threats made, and some other things in the 2 screenshots provided.

This does effect the bounty hunter community as we do not know how SOE will respond to teh situation, if it begins to specifically target them. However, for there to be a restraining order filed the petitioner would have to know the real life name, address of the person they are trying to get the order against. Not to mention what if the other player is from another country and not under U.S. jurisdiction. The only way they can get this information is for them to have their local police department contact SOE, as SOE does not readilygive this information out. There would be so much work involved to get to this step not to mention the cost andyour local law enforcement would probably not do anything with this anyway. The chances for this happening are very slim.

To guarantee that this doesn't happen to you just follow a fewbasics:

1) Don't threaten the player before/after the fight(saying stuff like I am coming for you, I will kill you, etc...)

2) Don't allow yourself to be manipulated into saying things that could be percieved as harrasment

3) Remember that not all players RP, and some of things you emote or say in character could be construed as threatening in real life

personally I get my target and /addignore them. That way I don't have to listen to them whine, beg, bribe, or threaten me. This is a game and sadly there are people whos whole life is the game and everything no matter how small affects them personally.

See this is the EXACT thing that the rest of us BH's are afraid of. Crap like this starts because people just have to "win all the time", and can't handle the fact that they lose. They don't want to accept defeat and move on.

So what happens is...by these guys doing this...SOE sees this and starts making changes to the BH profession because of stunts like this so yes it affects all of us because of two immature people that need to really just play the game and have fun instead of calling harrassments and restraining orders and the like.

Some people don't even realize the ripple effect this can cause to the rest of the bounty hunter community.

Garva, Tanks, Tiggs, or TH...Please delete this thread and lock all others that are posted about this. The community would appreciate this. Let these people deal with their problems in real life as we don't want to hear about it anymore.

If that's what you're afraid of, take primetime's advice and don't make threatening statements to your marks. I'll bet you that IF it is real and IF there really was a RO filed it wan't because someone killed someone in game, it was about threats taken in RL context, just like if they were spoken over a phone.

Of course, we won't ever know because the people who supposedly have the information won't post any of it.

A restraining order is just an order saying "don't contact this person." It can be enforced if the person subject to the order keeps contacting the person with the restraining order, but it doesn't mean anybody has been sued or is going to jail.

It's sort of a RL equivalent of /addignore.

In the future before u kill a Jedi, ask him what country he is from, and if he is US...dont kill him...

I wont have any problems in that direction, as danish laws arnt that insane...

Actually, in-game spilling over into rl apparently happens in Korea as well. There was a news article of an assault over an online game...

The only thing I can think of being a police officer with a degree in Criminal Justice is that they had some rl contact and maybe a few harrassing phone calls. Arizona judges can not file this because THEY HAVE NO JURISDUCTION. this happened in Cali, where SOE's servers are located. The only way for this to be true either he claims to have been threatened in rl or was vague in telling how he was threatened online( which there are laws proctecting you now ) and asked SOE to uphold the RO. Here is my advice, get an attorney and make this judge look like a fool. Just remember every state has some type of online protection laws. Be careful of what you say. Hunting him being a BH is not harrassment, it is part of the game.
