Thread: Did the Empire really want *all* Jedi dead?
So true.

I agree with your points. I think this is a game (*gasp*) and it should be whatever the Devs ( with constructive feedback from the playerbase) want it to be. I also think that jedi shouldn't be all powerful. That would ruin the game for many people. I like the direction the Devs are taking this game. Revamping forgotten professions and such. But this is a MMO. There will always be whiners, and people that want an "I win" button.

I thought you were talking to me. If you weren't trying to flame me for just stating an opinion, then I apologize. I just can't stand people who get on these boards and talk trash to someone hiding behind a computer screen knowing full well that if we were face to face, they wouldn't even try it. People do have feelings and I try to use consideration of others. When people don't show me common courtesy, I tend to not show it back. But again. I apologize for what I said.
i know how it is...I like to see everyone's opinions on what direction the game should take, but the whining/flaming that some people do on the forums just eats me up....every now and then i snap a little. I also apologize and heres hoping that others will see thatwe, as a community, can be civil and discuss differences without degenerating into a flame war
Just like to point out that the latest Webstrip on http://www.starwars.com/hyperspace is call Evasive Action: Recruitment.
It deals with three Padawan's who survived the Jedi Purge, Drake, Ekria and Zondar.
It also features Palpatine and Vader selecting and training Tremayne to be a Dark Jedi.
So, whether you EU naysayers like it or not, according to Lucas, there were still Jedi around, Light and Dark, after the Jedi Purge and the events in Episode III.
This is my view of the whole thing. GL makes three movies. GL gives writers permission to write books concerning his story. Writers begin destroying what GL set up because they get the "wouldn't it be cool if" attitude. GL does not like the direction the EU is taking. GL makes three more movies set before the first three to clean up the mess.
Think about it. In the EU there aremoresurvivors of the Jedi Purge. Why? Because when these authors were kids they played around saying I am a jedi that survived the purge and then they get the chance to bring their characters to life. THey even make "Dark Jedi" and "hands" that serve the Emperor because they thought, "wouldn't it be cool if Palpatine had secret force wielding agents?" Why would you need them?
GL from what I can see, despite what was said in interviews, made the prequels to clean the mess up. Ep I, Yoda to Windu in reference to the Sith, "Always two there are, no more, no less..." THis tells me that GL did not want "Dark Jedi" or "Force Sensetive Hands" working with the Emperor and therefore the Sith would have been out for their blood too. Some may ask, "Then why did Dooku attempt to recruit Obi Wan?" Simple. It seems to be Sith tradition that when the apprentice feels that he/she is ready to become the master, they line up an aprentice for themselvs and kill the master (Just from my observation).
Concerning the Light side of the force, the classic trilogy should have made that clear. Ep V Obi-Wan to Yoda "That boy is our last hope." Yoda mentions, "No. There is another." This is in reference to Leiah. In Ep III Yoda felt the deaths of the Jedi when Order 66 was executed. Do you not think that he told Obi-Wan that they were both the last once the rest of the Jedi were hunted down?In Ep IV Obi-Wan tells Luke, "A young Jedi named Darth Vader...helped the Empire hunt down and destroy the Jedi Knights...Now the Jedi are all but extinct." Obi-Wan knew of Yoda which is the reason he did not say, "Now the Jedi are extinct." Also, from this statement, we can assume that Palpatine tasked Vader with killing any survivors of Order 66. Why would Vader start hunting the rebels if he believed his task incomplete? Keep in mind that Yoda and Kenobi were aware of each other and could more than likely sense if other Jedi survived.
My whole point to this is, EU may have started with GL's blessing, but I think he believes that it got out of hand and that could be one reason for making the prequels. In my opinion, what ever STAR WARS movie or TV show has George Lucas listed as an executive producer or just a producer/director should be taken as true because he would not produce it if he did not want it to be apart of his story.
Kailoron:
You mistake "Sith" for "Dark Jedi" not all Dark Jedi are Sith and not all Sith are Dark Jedi. It's entirely possible that a Sith could have many Dark Jedi under him.
To those that say: "Jedi didn't duel in theed blah blah":
Neither did swordmen. Neither did anyone really. Rebels didn't stand around overt in starports either.
To those that still think the Empire wanted all Jedi dead:
Well, I think you need to question why they would kill their own high inquisitor.
If Lucas was intent on making his films fit to the EU he wouldn't have made Boba Fett a clone. AOTC totally destroyed Fett's EU story, pre-Ep.4.

Actually, in more recent interviews Lucas has said he considered adding a scene to RoTJ for the DVD release that had Boba escaping the sarlacc. And if you want to deny the EU happened, then please, don't accept any EU material, don't pick and choose.

Ah the Expanded Universe. The supreme bastardization of the Star Wars Mythology. Don't forget the Star Wars Christmas Special....Uncle Itchy FTW
I've read alot of the expanded universe books and not only do most of them suck, they contradict each other. The newer ones are a little better at keeping up with canon BUT it's only entertainment.
Look at some of the other sources of Star Wars material. The old Marvel Comics, the cartoons, even the toys....what counts? George Lucas said the only true canon is the films, but he's not going to detour you from buying the books that make him even richer. Boba Fett died as far as George Lucas is concerned because you saw it happen in Return of the Jedi. He said "the fans brought him back, but he's dead"
What does that tell ya?
Actually Steve Perry wrote Shadows, Timothy ZAHN wrote the Thrawn trilogy.

and actually I see the quote in ep 1 about always 2 there are as only pertaining to that time
How do we know that Palpatine didn't start training Force users after he took over.. its possible cause he was in control of the galaxy at the time
Only the Sith would be allowed to survive and due to the nature of the Sith there can only be 2.
So to argue effectively against the expanded universe I will have to call upon more of the expanded universe and show how it just doesn't really work due to numerous contradictions.
The Sith lost the war with the Jedi thousands of years ago because of infighting. They all wanted all the power, no honor among thieves (or in this case fiends). That's why there is only a master and an apprentice because the Master needs someones help but only 1 so that he cannot be overtaken by theothers teaming against him. That is why other Jedi would not be allowed to exist....they would be a threat even if they wanted to "serve" the emperor.
In the original trilogy Palpatine thought he could use Skywalker to eliminate Vader and Vader thought the same thing. Otherwise Skywalker would have to be destroyed. They both planned to destroy the other with the help of Luke.
This is why the expanded universe is such a big contraction and that is why the Empire would destroy every Jedi.
Look at it this way even the most powerful Jedi ever....Yoda had to hide.
