By far Fan Shot is the best PvE special for Pistoleers.
My only complain to it, it doesn't work in PvP, so I would consider Fan Shot a "Grinding Only" skill.
Not that I am complaining. The AoE is tremendous. I tore apart an entire base garrison of Stormtroopers and Officers at a Faction Base, four times (I was buffed) and gained 20k XP in total.

I disagree, fan shot does work for PvP. I use it alot for battles and even though the hits aren't crazy high, you still chip away at their ham bars. I've usually get 350 - 500 hits with fan shot in battles with a good DX2.

For grinding,I used PointBlankArea1 on Gurks while next to the lair. I now tend to use Fanshot over Last Ditch just because after 5 shots, it starts doing more damage. Now if my target is running away and I need to frontload, I use my Last Ditch.

I just got pistoleer 0042,and i really must ask, whats so good about Fan Shot?
IS there some special way to use it that makes it so effective? Healthshot 2 seems to nearly match the damage of Fan shot, and the Area affect of the fan shot seems as if it has limited uses. Compared to brawler 4 AOE's this is a joke.
Is there a trick to getting this special to work right? Is there a place where this special is better utilized? What i tried was getting a group of huurtons to attack, then i ran and spammed fan-shot back at them. It seemed to hit maybe 2, or 3, but different ones each time, and not for any significant amount of damage.

Honestly, I do not see what all the buzz is about. I took the Pistol Abilities line up first when I was doing Pistoleer and when I finally got the magical Fan Shot, I found that PointBlankArea1 was still working faster against Huurton Stalker lairs.
The novelty of kiting a few mobs and spamming Fan grows old fast. With the state of buffing and solo groups now, why would I waste all that effort running around. Hell, I spend most of my last pistols box minimized with my /pointblankarea macro'ing through a lair.
If I ever use Fan Shot now, it is either to spam against a single target (nice damage for the speed) or againt NPCs that are using ranged weapons and standing still.

If you aren't getting better results you aren't getting better results, but it's worth another look. Use whatever works best for you. Maybe you need more speed and accuracy. The DPS is good and it has a nice cone effect, and even pretty high damage per shot, it's just random HAM. There is this little business with agro, of course.

Fan shot works great with a pet. In the recent spawn of decent avian meat on Dath, my pet wouldl have 12+ reptillian fliers beating on him, whilst I fan shot'ed them, it was complete carnage, I got a lot of avian meat very quickly.

couple things you need to understand about fanshot....Be in your ideal range. What does that mean? It won't work as great if your point blank. the bueaty of fanshot is with ranged oppents. Lets say your killing some NPC Imps, they need to die anyway, so they are all ranged on you for most part standing around like idiots. you go right up to them and fire, you'll just hit one, MAYBE 2, usually 1. BUT if you are in your ideal ranged shooting them you'll hit multiple targets for the same damage. Very nice, so your doing that same damage, realitivly speaking, to everyone of the targets within your cone of fire.When I go to the geo caves it comes in real handy in a few rooms.

If you are close in, use Point Blank Multi 1 or 2. I know of other people who have mentioned that Fan Shot is bugged, just be sure that targets are with a 20 degree arc.It is goodbe15 meters and beyond to get the best results. I even kite to keep multipletargets within the AOE. With its good DPS,it is good for "destroy" type NPC missions, i.e when faction farming

I agree with the epost 2 up. You need to be in the ideal range. I love fanshot as I can hit the entire mob at a lair and work the lair at the same time.

Fanshot is nice for certain things, but is it working as intended or is it bugged? It is an AoE, and everybody says it is an AoE. But if you read the description ingame it is not supposed to be an AoE shot. So is the text wrong or is the shot bugged?
The description ingame reads: " FanShot: This ranged attack can hit a single target multiple times with your pistol"
Sounds like improved double tap to me.

I just got fan shot and it seems to give you two powerful shots in a row. whereas disarming or stopping only seem to give one powerful shot.
