Hope some people from other boards read this, how many times have i gone off into the wilds with a group, i've left my bike (I'd usually walk, but got to go with the group) 200m from the target, to stop evaluate the area, position of the target and surrounding beasts, only to have some fool on a swoop fly in to 30m, jump off and start spamming crap all over the place, then bitchin' when no one heals them or joins in! LOL i love it when I'm grouped with Noobs on Dath that do that. I remember i was leading a Rancor group of maybe 5 or 6 people and 2 were only lvl 4 in the beginner professions they were doing. We got to my Rancor spot that always has a healthy spawn of 7 ot 8 lairs and one of the low lvl guys ran in there and everyone else in the group just stood there and watched him get wasted by 2 lairs or Rancors. Needless to say he was pissed and left the group.I don't really know how he expected 6 of us to take on 6 or so EnragedRancors all at one time with 2 of the guys not even having elite professions yet and a few of us(wookiees) not having armor yet. If he would have waited 30 seconds for one of the ranged combatants to do a bleed pull everything would have been peachy.

I am a beginner ranger 1,0,3,2. And I am working on rifleman 1,1,0,0 and CH skills.

Question 1:> would it be better to have more CH skill or Rifle skill with my end template?

Question 2:> What are some of the best strategies for taking down larger game solo - such as kimogilla's, Rancors even Krayt?

Question 3:> while working on honing ones ranger skills. Where would the best places to go be, and what would be the best game to seek out?

Thank you for your help.

Ok, the creature you are attempting to harvest just got past your pet, what do you want to have - more rifle, more pet control, or burstrun.

Personally, I have pistols, but choosing rifle v pets, I vote rifle. Pets, gotta have skills. Droids = no skills. Big hint.

With rifle, /maskscent and use conceal shot. Go slow. Get a bleed in. Patience. You can drop anything like this, given enought time.

To get Ranger/Scout xp. I always liked finding a group on Dant or Dath. You harvest a ton of good stuff, the missions pay well and you can max traps in one trip. Failing that, if I could not find a group - I would stay on one planet and just wander, harvesting and trapping any and every thing in sight. Some call it carnage, I call it XP.

For stealth, I agree Fred. But if you're rifleman, you have a slightly different style then I, being pistoleer. Especially with /concealshot, you usually stay hidden. And I won't use traps as an open in a group of socials. I have "techniques" to spread out/pull out creatures i social packs. Then I hit one with a bleed from afar. When it starts getting in close, I snare it wth P. dart, and just kite it. If I don't fill my que with specials, I can throw another P. Dart right when I see -snared-avove their heads. Cause that means it just wore off, and in about 2 seconds they are going to charge me. If they do get up on me, PistolWhip helps sometimes, when it works. While they are down I throw another dart on them.

I used to know by heart when that -snared- isabout to go off and throw the next P-dart right on time. These days I just use P-dart, do some specials, throw Adhesive Mesh. Then -snared- goes off but the meatbag is still rooted so I canadd another P-dart in. Works like a charm. For Pistoleer.

Just for kicks the other day i was runnin around endor and saw a deathwatch ghost out and about by himself. so i decided to take him on and see if i could kill him. i had on full buffs, 2x416 brandies and had just run out of synth steak. no armor, fencers should have no need for armor as ive usualy seen. only problem was, i got womped on pretty hardcore. i used CoB and had my window of not being hit at all, but when that ran out he hit me like 3 or 4 times and killed me super fast. i couldnt seem to do ANY damage to him, max was like 200 damage. if ya'll got any help on some pve tactics on npcs/creatures of the upper echelon, please post'm. i love the fencer prof. and dont wanna leave it cause of my severe lack of damage. peace out ya'll

Well, first PVE tactic is to always wear armor. Secondly, if you want to PVE, I don't suggest fencer at all because it is THE worst profession in PVE, due to low damage weapons and hardly any armor peircing.

Intimidate is useful against hard things, and novice medic for healing ability is helpful as well.

PVE, I suggest wearing armor, they will attack your health and action pools and you need to be able to recover. I also suggest having at least novice medic to stim away damage as you take heavy hits.

As far as as tactics, I suggest you start out every battle against a hard mob witha stack of intimidates and that you continue to keep that mob intimidated the entire time you are fighting them - it will reduce their damage they do to you so that you can keep going (intimidate is the most important attack in a meleer's arsenal). I then suggest sticking your healthit2 bleed and blinding and dizzying if possible. If youland adizzy, lunge them and get the bonus damage you get for when an opponent is flopping. For damage, use 1h hit3 if it's 1 mob or dizzy2 if it's multiple, unless you have others with you who are attacking mind, in which case use scatterhit2. Besides that, if you have any dots, stick them on and if you have any better damage dealing profession besides fencer, switch back and forth between tanking as fencer and dealing damage with the other prof.

Great Post Odite. In other words "USE every single special abilty you have." You just need to time it all right and use them all accordingly. I use Bleed first - then Blind - then intimidate - then dizzy - and once all of that lands I use DOT weapons and heavy damage specials.

THE DEATH WATCH BUNCKER IS IMPOSSIBLE. That place is just trash and you should stay away from it. Visit fort tusken or the Geo Cave. At least you have a better chance there. The Death watch bunker is just that ... DEAD.

I would also reccomend lacing some other melee class for a tiny more bit versatility.

High end mobs resist the states you'll be able to apply like crazy. The whole time I was fighting in DWB tonight (hour and 1/2) and all the time I've done Corvette, the only states I get to stick are bleed and Intimidate. Dizzy doesn't land, which sucks, and blind also doesn't land, which really sucks. Not to mention Fencer defenses don't scale up to their high accuracy (121 melee def + 105 dodge + CoB macro = getting hit by every attack = **edit**?) and that we've got limited choices in damage type (kinetic and stun, and only if you have a good acklay baton, otherwise the kinetic gaffi'sprobably still better) mean that if your states aren't sticking, you're in over your head since you're not really able to do much else.

Because of the lack of defense, you want the best armor you can buy, effectiveness sliced since you're going to be buffed anyway. (You may consider carrying a half-set or so of encumbrance sliced armor also for use when unbuffed, if you have lots of brandy and medic skills to keep yourself healed from the special cost in wearing the set.) CoB macro will help, so it's constantly running (that can mean the difference between eating a couple thousand point specials and evading them). Like the others have suggested, slapping on every state will help, but if those aren't landing, and it doesn't look like you're doing much damage to him because of AR and high kinetic/stun resists, you might consider just running the hell away early before you take a dirt nap. Gotta know when to stand and fight and when to pull out for another battle. =X
