OK, so to build from there...
By getting the second column of fencer two of the boxes are the Melle Mitigation skills, which I already get from being a master Swordsman. So I am pretty much taking it for a +50 versus knockdown (which is an important skill I know, but is it worth a whole column?) Is it worth it? Most would say yes, but it's really up to you to decide. +50 KD Defense isn't all it has though. Through a Dizzy+Posture Down, you can be KD quite well too. That's where the +50 Posture Down Defense will come in handy too
Lets set up this new template:
Master Swordsman
Master Rifleman
Medic 2/0/0/0 (to use stim B's) Novice is enough here. Next best would be 0/0/3/0, but you don't need it.
Fencer 3/4/0/0 With the changes to Medic, you can now make this 4/4/0/0
Using 2 of the last 3 points to get Ranged Support I(for /aim and a slight defense increase) is a good idea.
Alternatively... What if I drop fencer altogether for some TKA defense? Their last column is better than the first of fencer... In a way. The first Fencer line gives you +54 to both ranged and melee defense. The fourth line of TKA gives you 9 less ranged defense, but 6 more melee defense. It's up to you to decide what's more valuable.
Master Swordsman
Master Rifleman
Medic 2/0/0/0 (to use stim B's) Again, just Novice is enough
TKA 3/0/04 Use the pointsremoved from Medic to finish Meditate(you need all of it if any of it in my opinion).
Then get Ranged Support I with the few remaining.
How strong is meditate? It's been a while, but I think it goes like this:
- Novice Meditate- Nothing
- Meditate I- Bleeds
- Meditate II- PowerBoost(Adds half of your Mind to Health, Action, and Mind for 10 minutes. No reuse timer, but takes a minute to get it moving)
- Meditate III- Poison/Disease
- Meditate IV- Wounds/Force of Will(Chance to immediately get up from incap once per hour)
Is Meditate worth sacrificing the status defenses? It's sure handy for several reasons, but those sacrificed defenses could make you never need Meditate. It's another trade-off that you have to decide for yourself if you want it.

OK, so I am considering a couple of templates right now...
Template 1:
Master Brawler
Master Swordsman
Master TKA
Fencer 4/4/3/0
Template 2:
Master Swordsman
Fencer 4/4/4/0
TKA 0/0/0/4
Rifleman 4/3/0/0
Template 3:
Master Swordsman
Master Rifleman
Fencer 4/4/4/0
It would be really nice to be able to solo higher end mobs. I am definitely getting master swordsman, so my question is... Am I useless as a rifleman with template 2? Do you have to be a master and get the accuracy bonus etc to do it "properly"?
In which case, does template 3 sound OK?
Or am I spreading it all to thin by wanting both melee and ranged? Should I just go with template 1 and drop the whole rifleman thing altogether...?

Only +20 Def vs KD and +30 to both Posture changes. However, the +60 Def. vs Stun and +50 Def vs Dizzy should not be overlooked. Also, having the amount ofBlock you get from both professions is very useful in conjunction with CoB. Were Block the same or more similar to Dodge or Counterattack, you would see many more people with this template

My template is Master Pikeman / 4-3-0-4 TKA / 1-0-0-0 Fencer / Master Brawler / 2-1-4-0 Medic / 1-0-0-0 Scout.
I got the Medic part for hunting Nightsisters. This way I can heal myself for 1000-2000 damage using 1086 power / 40 med use Stim Es.
Is there a better template for hunting Nightsisters as a Pikeman? With this template I have the following defenses:
Block +115
Combat Equilibrium +40
Defense vs Blind +30
Defense vs Dizzy +45
Defense vs Knockdown +40
Defense vs Posture Change +60
Defense vs Stun +65
Polearm Toughness +31
Melee Mitigation 3
Melee Defense +124
Ranged Defense +102

While this template can work for pvp, i choose to distance myself from anything gcw related.
PVE template:
Master Brawler
Master Pike
Master Swords
TKA 4003
Novice Medic
Works very well for ns hunting, pike for kinetic vulnerable groups, and swordsmen blast for elder soloing. Also electricity is a bonus when doing DWB runs.
Currently planning on dropping some more tka melee/ranged defence for first aid, and hopefully stim c use.
Block +115
Combat Equilibrium +10
Counterattack +100
Defense Acuity +56
Defense vs Blind +30
Defense vs Dizzy +60
Defense vs Intimidate +20
Defense vs Knockdown +45
Defense vs Posture Change +40
Defense vs Stun +100
Intimidation +20
Meditate +75
Melee Defense +102
Ranged Defense +75
Taunt +40
Warcry +20

- Ranger (0,3,4,0)
- Master Pikeman
- TK (4,0,0,4)
Main:
Provides the player with hunting skills and harvest bonuses to complement agood support professionwith good support combos.
Pros:
Exellent Melee/Ranged Defense: (tk/pike) - Withmelee defense topping93 and ranged defense in the 70s makes for a very defensive template
Powerboost(tk) -Self/free small buff that can go a long way in securing survival in a long battle
Meditation(tk) - Can heal own wounds, dispearse poisons and diseases.
Good Damage With Pike(pike) -With the right weapons a pikeman can be a formidable force in hunting
Great Solo'ability (misc) - Due to the defensive/offensive traits of this template you can solo extremely well
Good 'Hunter' Template(pike) - This template is very effective at organic resource collection and hunting
Able To Track Animals (ranger) - Using /areatrack enables you to find rare and valuable critters with TN, it makes travel over uneven tarrain much easier
Harvest Bonuses (ranger) - You can harvest more off a single creature than most
Keep Critters At Range (ranger) - Pheascene and Adhesive Mesh slow and root creatures
Cons:
High HAM Cost(pike) - Get buffed or dont fight, simple as
Loot Weapons Better Than Crafted(pike) - This means you need to go loot hunting alot to reach your potential
Lots of SP Cost (misc) - Ranger and scout cost alot of SP, could be spent elsewhere
Weak Master Specials (pike) - Specials at master are disproportionately weak vs. specials of other melee weapon professions.
Limited DamageTypes(pike) - With only Kinetic, Electricity and Energy the range is somewhat limited.
Cannot Heal(misc) - Not having medic means no heals during combat

Master Pike/Master Rifle/Scout 1-x-4-x/medic/2-x-4-x
I am still all PVE all the time but I think with tweaks (dumping scout and the excess medic for state defenses) it would be solid in pvp. I like the harvest bonus because my alt is a master doc. The heals are great, and first aid is a godsend vs. the nasty NS bleeds.
By the way, thanks to this forum for convincing me to go pike/rifle. Mastered pike last night and am having the most fun I have had so far with SWG.
If this toon can handle the sisters as well (or close to as well) my doc/swordsman, I will be dumping swords to get merchant to start selling some drugs and loots

I tend to try a lot of different templates. My current template is actually a great deal of fun.
Master Pikeman
Master Squad Leader
Medic 2-0-0-0
Pros: Aside from the standard benefits that come from Pikeman, this template provides some nice SLadvantages. +60 to terrain neg, +30 group ranged and group melee defense. You can also cure dizzy on anyone in your group (but not yourself) instantly. Rally also provides a nice ToHit bonus.
Cons: Squad Leader is expensive in terms of skill points and you always need to be grouped(even with just apet is fine).
This is something I'm trying now and hope to keep for a while. I think, long-term, I'll probablly end up just dabbling in SL for cure dizzy and a few other benefits (maybe something like 3033) and use the remaining points somewhere else.

Master Pikeman/Master Rifleman/4000 TKA/1040 Medic
A split PvP/PvE template. Unfortunately, I use my T21 75% of the time. I rarely ever use a polearm unless I'm specifically tanking.

Master Pikeman/Master Rifleman/Pistoleer 0040/Medic 1040....the pros of this template are, stacker like defenses, dual masteries with both mitigation 3's, so much block it's like perma synthsteak, and healing ability of stim d's(bout a 1500 heal depending on bf). Cons, haven't found any. I mean all templates have a counter in some way or another, but this works for pve/pvp...learn to play it and you won't even need dots unless you're just looking to tear through some people. This is a very good profession combo if you like "workin" your opponent.
