OK maybe bringing up old post aren't fair.

Lets try this then: This is theCURRENT FAQ about Jedi: http://starwarsgalaxies.station.sony.com/content.jsp?page=Jedi%20FAQ

One Quote from current Jedi FAQ:

How are you going to keep Jedi rare?
Jedi characters suffer a form of permadeath. You do not lose the Jedi character, but all of your skills are deleted. In order to compensate for deaths that are completely out of control of the player (such as ones caused by network latency) each Jedi will be able to die a couple times before skill loss. The life of a Jedi is extraordinarily difficult, and successfully making it all the way to Jedi Master should be considered the most difficult challenge in the game.

So they know it should be difficult, but they don't do it.

Meh.

I say roll back servers to old system.

Old system ala Permadeath? unfortunately SOE does not have the ballz to do it. All the current developers who have insta rolled Jedi alts wouldn't go for it.

Did you miss that little story part in EPIV or V where it says that ALL Jedi are extinct?

Yah, it ranks right up there with Ben saying Luke was their last hope when there was Leia, and Ben saying that Vader killed Anakin.

And let's not forget Mace saying "we're not soldiers" mere days before he takes a commission in the military.

Oh man, I remeber this! I used to be on the boards in 2001 reading this stuff and loving it. I'm sadended by where the game has gone from this once fantastic notion of living in a world where the Jedi were rare. The purpose of Galaxies used to be, I thought, to live in a world where you could be something other than Jedi. (and you still can to an extent), becuase every other Star Wars game on the market you could be a Jedi

I think one poster here had it right with comparing galaxies to KOTOR, and the execs realizing that Jedi=profits.

I wonder what Blackman and Koster would have to say about the state of the game now, specifically the Jedi population.

Ahh well, such is life. Things change. The Jedi will eventually compell me to leave this game. It's just a matter of when.

That's only an excuse to not make good solid content. If twice as much content was available we'd have half as many jedi. Most people went jedi because they were bored.

Make up your minds people. Do you want to hunt jedi? Or do you want none to exist. Geez.

How about when a Jedi dies, in order to avoid xp loss, they have to remain a ghost (invisible) - (x) hours for every (y) xp that were to be lost. That'll get them on the alts for a while. And hey, everyone hiding on Kashyyk does keep them out of the public eye. The jedi aren't dead, darth is just allergic to trees

Cheers,

Id gladly not be able to hunt players in exchange for even a reduced number of Jedi. I think most non-jedi (and even some jedi) can see the problems they are creating for the entire game.

Guess it was Ralph's opinion but obviously SOE marketing had a far different opinion. Marketing isnt about depth at all or immersion, its simply about catering to the lowest common denominator. In this case its all the Jedi-wanna bes. Marketing obviously is not capable of comprehending or caring about the depth of the Star Wars universe.

Exactly. And in the end that is what Fan Fest is, Marketing. Developers are gonna say what the customers want to hear. Over 90pct of thetopics from the fan fest players will not even be discussed once Fan Fest is over.
