Nice to see someone else then me bringing up these ideas on the forums.

Yes, I totally agree we need a jedi population cap on all servers. Today the 'regular professions' has become rare professions and in some cases uniqueprofessions. And jedi has become 'The Regular Profession.'

This wan't the way jedi was intended to be like. It was supposed to be a unique, temporary profession.

We can get it back to what it was supposed to be like. A unique, strong and mysterious profession only held by a very few.

With a sever cap on jedi population we can reach there. And with permanent jediskills loss when DBd in pvp a number of times, we would make the jedi profession a class only for those who dares to try the risky path of becomeing a powerful jedi. Risk vs great reward.

This would make the regular professions regular again - more SW feeling for the game

It would also contribute to more players getting intrest in GCW instead of jedi grinding - more immerse civli war raging.

And at last it would make jedi something to admire - more Jedi feeling and respect.

Yeah don't know about capping jedi population but perma-death/blue glowie with like a week long timer sounds awfully good...Or even just perma-death and change it back to grinding one tree /shrug. It's obvious that jedi is WAY overpopulated and that is ruining the game, not the jedi themselves. SOE will not cap out jedi, but something really does need to be done to control population and even decrease it.

I vote for a CM cap. Only two-years veterans get to play a CM anymore.

Its not the population that is the problem really. The only thing that annoys me is the idiot punk kids who show off outside the major starports! Take us outta the GCW and add some sort of Insta death gank squad of NPC's to towns, for those that fire up sabers or use force powers, then you will see a decrease in Jedi.

I would like to suggest, and I am sure I am not the first to mention it, that the developers institute a population cap on the number of Jedi allowed in the game.
In the beginning, Jedi was never really advertised as a profession you could master (at least not that I have seen). Now, however, they are actively advertising it (view TV promo). I believe that the change in this advertising methodology regarding Jedi will obligate SOE to provide an opportunity for new players to become Jedi. Some players believe, as it has been mentioned before on these forums, that this will ever decrease the abilities of Jedi and relegate them to an "average" profession within the game and put the Jedi on an equal level with Elite Masters from any other combat profession. Jedi should be better (in many ways but not all ways) than any other combat profession but there cannot be so many of them and that is what is hurting us.
I agree with this line of thought and by looking at the rate of decline since publish 9 with each hotfix, patch and upgrade and the increasing number of Jedi entering the game due to the advertising, it certainly points in that direction.
Why is it that they do not allow Jedi to character transfer to other Galaxies? My original understanding was that they did not want to overpopulate a galaxy with jedi. But with Jedi now being advertised as a viable option, isn't that exactly what is being done? Overpopulating? Once they start to allow Jedi to transfer to other servers, it will be further evidence that the profession is no longer "unique" (if it even still is).
I suggest that the developers withdraw their advertising of the Jedi as a viable profession within SWG, set and announce a future date (3 months, 6 months, 1 year) after which point the Jedi will be have reached its cap for the server and no other player will be able to seek that profession till a Jedi account is closed or deleted. All current Jedi remain in the game, all current players in the game who have faint glows may continue down the path to Jedi or all players in the game period can get jedi..but no new characters entering the game can. Numerous ways to manage it but I believe a cap is needed.

What would you say if they decided to go along with this idea, but to make it "fair" they made all non-jedi first, and then they put a random souldmark on lets say 5% of the population, that could get Jedi? and it turned out later you where not among them? Im sure you would not like it. At least not if you like your jedi character.

its unfair. No. this is most wrong way to limit jedi to the game.

I don't think it's unfair that some players only gets the mandalorian armor or anything else my character don't have. If you really, really want it, you will get it.

Same thing it should be with jedi.

If jedi was as hard to get as Mando armor this game would be ok, IMO it should be that hard, but it's not. As the numbers OBVIOUSLY show, Jedi is far easier to get than Mando armor.

not only are you not the first to mention it your not even the 100th... its getting ridiculous.
folks need to just play the game and not worry about what classes others are playing and stop worrying about population control and start playing the game. don't be the busy body next door and don't be the nosy neighbor just let folks play how and what they want and stop worrying bout all this cheese.

and i believe your wrong this is a MMORPG .. not canon with the movies it was gonna be but obviously its not. think bout this there are hundreds of bounty hunters in the books but in this game i daily see that many.. so if you want population control be careful what ya ask for because they might decide your right and realize it is not just jedi who should be scarce but also BH, smugglers and all kindsa other professions.

people need to stop whining for population control it does no good and pretty much wont happen.. ever.

Population caps are not a good answer. Like it or not, everyone wants to be as powerful as possible on these games (or at least 99% of the people do). If people have no chance of being as powerful as another player, then they will quit, bottom line.

A better solution that has been promoted by a few people is to give other professions ameans to advance in the end game, and become more powerful (perhaps rivaling the Jedi). This gives other 'regular' professions something to strive for in the end-game rather than just becoming a Jedi, and promotes diversity in the PvP community.

In terms of capping Jedi, my only thought would be that once you have a jedi character, your alternate will never get a glow of the force. This would ensure that at least 50% of the population is non Jedi. Before instituting any control over a population, however, you would really need to understand what makes up the population. I submit to you that while Jedi are percieved to be overpopulated, they do not make up a large percentage of the total population.

Jedi are very different. They come with their own clothes, weapons and sounds that are quite unlike any character in the galaxy which makes them stand out like a wookie on a New York streetcorner. As the Jedi population went up, it was perceived that these powerful beings were taking over the galaxy, so it's easy to cry for control.

The reality is that Jedi are more common than one year ago. Yes many have unlocked their force powers and gone down the path. However, I still am able to travel around for hours at a time without seeing a Jedi. Without real census data, your assertions are based upon perception.
