I have loved pike since i got novice and im really good at pvp with it..I RARELY use it's dot's but when I met tough competitors I did use.
Our 3 damage types are Kinetic,Electric(most peeps that are good pvp'ers have 80-90% on both these), and Energy (lance way to hard ot get plus it stinks). Ok DoT's not ruling pvp anymore is gonna be good, we can have longer fights and use our tactics. IF we had a little Ap, More Speed (ashame we have to use CA's ,AA, ETC to cap when fencer's,Riflemen etcare really fast at master) and more defense and probably another damage type like acid or cold we be back in the melee race. This isnt a Rant Rave post, or to flame anybody just posting my opinion and I welcome my fellow pikemen's also

Yeah i love pikeman also. I mastered fencer, pikeman,brawler,heavyswordsman and now im going back to pikeman cause it loves so sexy 
)

Ive mastered all the melee classes after mastering Pike as my first melee proffesion. The others are just pfft...
Being a Master Pikeman is like being in the Mafia... You never truly get out.

After mastering TKA ( which i still love) i wanted to try out something different so i tried pikeman on a whim, and it's true, i just couldn't give it up. Everytime i've wanted to try another profession i've started another char.....sounds weird but there's jut no way i can drop it on my main
I use pike all the time PvE and use a mixture of both for PvP, still need to get a few more points for the speed cap but i find Pikeman pretty succesful against all but the really serious PvP guys.
I'm not sure if we need another dmg type......if the NSEL was better and slightly easier to ascertain i think it would be fine.

Take a look at the FAQ. I think it said Dearic, Kaandra, and one other place has the more advanced spynet guys. I actually just got invest 2 myself, and was able to use one of the spynets in Kaandra. haven't tried the other places yet though.
