It's like a tree falling in the forest with no one around to hear it.
Yes, exactly. And this is also why I have no reservations about ruining a bot's business whenever I can. I don't do it too often, but every now and then when I'm in an outpost cantina, I'll invite them at the start of their cycle, do a /changeband to Western if they do music, and proceed to buff everyone who needs it (without inviting them of course).
If they feel I'm affecting their gameplay, they can tell me so at any time and I will of course stop it immediately. Never happens though
And the funny part is, when the reverse happens, every one get's all butthurt...
It's like the Jedi argument... Everyone wants more Jedi removed from the game, exept theirs.

I laughed and said in spatial that the main reason I was buying it was so that a bot won't get it (I already have a 123% outfit) Someone who heard me in spatial told me to be careful that I didn't let anyone hear that was my reason for buying it because that is considered griefing. Is it?
It might be considered griefing it you targeted a specific person and purposely outbid them on everything they wanted to buy, convinced other people not to sell to them, etc. etc. It has to be a specific target and you have to do it consistently for it to be considered griefing I think.
What you were doing I would consider more along the lines of a "civic duty."

Honey, please don't be crazy. This person's going to get it again later anyway. Just sell it to them at 3 times the price you purchased it at. It's probably going to be the worst investment they ever make.

In my opinion there is no griefing when it comes to Jedi vs. BH. I don't care if a BH sits on a Jedi's doorstep and takes a leak on his plants. It is part of the game. The developers put it in. Just like they designed XP loss. To me Jedi know exactly what they are getting into when they pursue the profession. Expect XP loss, its part of the game. It would be like someone joining the Army then being upset they are sent off to war.

i've had a problem similar to this...it seems terminals encourage griefing. i was getting the same mission on a specific jedi on our server every time i went to the terminals.

For question 1.
That guy just has the worst luck in the world and probably should have offered you more money the second and thrid time around to get you to drop the mission.
For question two, its not our fault they go to town dueling and force meditating infront of 50+ ppl and can't afford to have BHs hunting them. I would say if you didn't take joy in beingBH then maybe you should play another class.
We play this game to have fun not to appologize to people who play a class which they know is going to be difficult to lvl, which they know other players are going to come after them and force them to pvp.
Jedi for the moment are part of our end game content. If I don't enjoy the end game content of a game well then its time for me to play something new.
So in short for question two, you should not feel bad about taking pleasure in being good at what you do. If you play your class well you should enjoy it even if it does knock someone else down.
Think about it like this, we didn't tell them to become Jedi they choose that and the consequence that come with it on thier own.

Heh, if I tried to talk to the guy I was after three times, he'd probably think I was after him again...

I've been thinking about this a lot lately -- whether griefing is really possible now that we have anonymous terminals.
The current system is set up so that it's pretty much impossible to single out one Jedi and hunt him over and over again. You don't get a name until 1000m away, at which point you would have already wasted at least one Arakyd and one Seeker, and about 15 to 20 minutes of your time. So it's quite impossible to go after an individual Jedi intentionally. This makes me wonder, was I griefing for attacking the same Jedi three times in two days? I got his mission once, took a payoff. Dropped it, got it again, immediately after. Killed him. Got it the next morning and killed him again. Interestingly enough, he may have gotten away if his friends didn't attack him (I guess they thought it wouldsave himif they got the DB and I didn't, thus stealing my kill... although I would have just got him at the cloner if that was the case. It was rather funny watching him run around with a Jedi and several normals firing/tossing lightsabers at him, though.)
So, was I griefing this guy? I didn't specifically take his mission, and I never knew it was going to be this specific guy until right when I was going to fight him. It's really not a situation where you can tell the Jedi "Oh, I'm sorry, I'll go walk away now. Don't attack me while I unequip my gun!"
That's question #1. Question #2 is a little more complex.
When you kill a Jedi, he obviously loses XP. I say "obviously" because you hear all about it for 20 to 30 minutes from him and his friends. Anyway, is it wrong to enjoy it? On the surface, people would say "You love setting people back, you griefer!" but is it really griefing if it's an in-game mechanism designed to make Jedi difficult? I'd say "You love keeping the timeline accurate/making Jedi risky, as intended." After all, once they make full temp, they'll just be PvPing all the time and ganking YOU. They're the "victim" right up until they hit 226k, and then they go to town.
So what do you guys think about it?
