Thread: Duel exploit...

Ok well Im not positive. And your not a dev so you dont decide.
You have abused this thread enough. Enough people have reiterated the TOS agreement... but to paraphrase it... Any player who uses a game mechanic to gain an advantage over another player, is considered exploiting.
By definition, that says... if you "cheat" you are guilty.
The question is.... is /duel /end from Jedi to any player a "crime"?
If you /duel /end, you are guilty of harassment. Which by the way, is any unsolicited communication, regardless of the sender's intent.
But more seriously, is it an exploit? Can it get you banned? You say no. that is your opinion, and you have shone zero proof as to why you think it is not. You have quote no developer posts, nor even a correspondant posting on the matter. You have not even offered your own conjecture as to why it is not considered an exploit. You have merely said that it is not, and that.... does not hold any credance.
I say that it IS in fact, an exploit. Reason being the definition of exploit as defined in the TOS agreement. Bounty Hunters have first strike capability on Jedi. This is a known fact. At any time, any place, any Jedi can be attacked. You live with that knowledge. No developer has EVER come forward and said thatJedi should/could or do have the ability to negate the first strike ability.
The /duel /end rule was put into place LONG before the BH vs Jedi system ever was. It was orignally part of the GCW where a player could not duel an overt member of the opposing faction, if they too were overt. Not many situations where that would come up, but none the less, it was in the system coding.
Now, months/years later, the system coding makes NO DIFFERENCE between the BH being able to attack a Jedi than it did between opposing faction. The system assigns a "flag" to any player/thing that is attackable. The simplest way to create the /duel system would be to deny ALL players who can attack others a /duel request. Hence the message "You cannot duel so-and-so, because they can attack you"
The reason, that I think no developer has said anything on the matter EITHER way, is because they know it's an issue that needs to be resolved, but if they publically announce that it's an exploit, their already over taxed ticketing system will become even more overloaded with exploit tickets, as just about every Jedi I know uses this method currently.
Also, it's more difficult to track because of the programming. When you "say" something in the game to someone else, it's easy to track. When you do bank exploits, etc they are easy to track. Nashal patio exploit, for example, because of location.
/duel /end is harder to track in the system #1, and #2 it's far harder to prove intent. A player would have to show that the Jedi intended to usethe /duel as an exploit instead of just blinding duel people, looking for some PvP. There is a fine line there.
At any rate, I feel it's an exploit, and i will continue to advocate against it, since as I've clearly stated above it creates a situation where the Jedi player would gain an unfair "non-intended" advantage through fore knowledge of an impending BH attack.
Wow.... 12 hours+ and no response from the Jedi advocacy council.

Well lets just say this, have you ever heard of anyone getting banned for this? Ever? surely it so game breaking, such an obvious and horrible exploit they should be banning people left and right if so... Has anyone gotten a direct warning for using it? most importantly, who CARES, if you stroll up on a group you've blown your cover, they're gonna know you're there for one of em, it just allows one person to sit out and wait for you to attack instead of 8 people being held upfrom doing whateverwhile you wait around for your "opportune moment" that isnt going to come now that you've been exposed. please stop going on and on about this, when/if they ever start banning people then people will stop using it, or if they ever actually put a fix in that'd be even better. And no I personally dont use the /duel "explot" because frankly I dont give a damn being full temp im just sick of hearing about this. The horse is a bloody mess, leave it BE! As a player who has 4 MBH characters and 1 jedi, please.. give it a damn rest!
Hehehehe..... solid. Nice. I don't care either way while hunting, but it does cause lots of unnecissary spam while cruising around player cities, or say Theed for instance. I don't typically blow my cover, but I will advocate against it since it's inherantly wrong. Just like the former BH duel exploit a BH could bug a Jedi. I advocated against that as well.
This isn't an issue of BH vs Jedi, this is an issue of an exploit of the game mechanics that happens to directly affect BH vs Jedi content AND is a harassment to non BH's out there.

Map the following to a hot key on your keyboard/duel/underhandshot/end/spit/say Silly Jedi, Exploits are for kids!When you get the duel request, quick target them, and hit this key. I mapped mine to the \ key. Works WONDERS on annoying them!
For the MCMs in the crowd:
/duel;
/paralyze;
/tsk;
/endduel;

I think this whole concept is kinda funny considering there's no way to prove that it was done. because the Jedi that you have the mission on, If he duels you, you don't get a system message. So every other player in the game can duel you and end duel and it still doesn't prove the one jedi that you have the mission on did it.
BTW This doesn't mean i support it or Do it but just that i find it funny.

As said b4 it is clearly an unintented use of the command...
Still dont think so?
Well ask yourself this.. if the developers really wanted the jedi to find out who was 'the mark' why not just build another command called 'are you for me Mr. BH?'
Seriously...
It is a lame exploit... just as is the one that bypasses cooldown timers... or is that working as intended too?

Its funny that some people in this thread dont see this as an exploit... while those same 'people' tell other folks that their ego fuels that argument.

Seperate, unrelated issue... thereare already multipleflame threads on that very topic on the GCW, BH, and Jedi boards.Message Edited by bmill on 09-28-2005 02:10 PM
Actually it is related. It is related in that it can be done in the game... so according to some people's logic here.... how do we know it is not intended?
that was the point I was making about some folks 'logic' in this thread...
