It hurts at least one "real" DE, the DE he normally would buy the droids from.
But if somebody wants to pay an extra $15 a month to not have to purchase droids, more power to them. With a second account, you can do pretty much what you want with it. Chances are, if he's not a crafter-type, he'll gain a better understanding of what we actually do, and how hard (on the wrists
) it is to get to master.

Can some one explain how they work. Once they blow up can they be repaired? I saw droid reconstruction kits and wondered if that's what they were for.

Er....when you blow something up there is nothing left but ity-bity pieces.
The answer is no. A repair kit will not put the bomb droid back together.
Reconstruct kits can only be used by DE's to repair the black bar i.e. "wounds"of a Droid's HAM.
Repair kits are droid stims to heal damage.

Bomb droids....I get varying opinions on them....are they mostly a personal preference thing or are they effective? And once they detonate, do you need to replace it or is it the same as when a droid is incapped?

When you detonate a bomb droid, nothing is left. (hopefully not even the jedi)
They're a one-shot only deal.
For that reason, many DE will sell them at just a little over cost, as they should get a lot of repeat custom if they're liked.

Cheers Capt
Also does the droids chassis affect is maximum explosive power i.e will an R2 or R3 do more damage than an MSE mouse?

It will, but only because you can put more modules in a R2 and R3 compared to an MSE droid.
MSE droids will be a lot cheaper though - typically around 4k on my server, while the R2 or 3 will be closer to 15k or higher

When they detonate they're done. Gotta buy a new one. However, if they're incapped before they detonate then they just go back into your datapad. Most people who use them for whatever reason (I quite enjoy sending a mouse droid into a platoon of Stormtroopers before I attack) use them as an opener.
One thing that's good to remember, though, is that you can call them while in combat. That's always a nice bonus, but you need to be careful because if the bomb droid's explosion incaps a target you won't be able to DB.

Thanks guys
So if my droid incaps them, it's play the waiting game to incap them myself and db? And incidentally what is the MSE droids blast radius?
Apologies for the newbie questions but...well I am
Only been playing 2 months and only been BH for 3 weeks (on and off) and I'm only just gettong to grips with the hunting part.

Quick question. What is the range on using them, ie: How close do I HAVE to be in order to get the detonate command to work? Or can you /shout the command from a distance?
