Ok I'm slowly advancing up the Marksman trees and scout trees. About 75% up each one. What is the best armor to use for BH. Or what is good armor overall. Thus far I don't use any armor. I don't plan on getting any until I have to so I was wondering.

What's good armor?

Mabari armor is good against melee. Bone is good agaisnt ranged. I havent tried much beyond this.

If you are an armor-hater, god have mercy on you. Turn on your combat dialogue box and watch how much it absorbs. When I am fighting kimas and let one of them hit me, they can do about 300 to 400 damage. 100 to 200 of that is being absorbed. It can save your arse in a fire fight, or if those pesky stupid fools with axes try to swing at me.

the different armors range in effectiveness depending on the crafter, his skill, and what materials are involved.

Basically your looking for somethign that has a high % next to all the stats listed int he armor. Thats the protection vs that kind of damage i believe. Right now i have Composite armor (the best craftable armor int he game) and all the stats are at 37%. The downside is its extremely encumbering, but like the previous poster said.. they absorb a LOT of damage. If i get hit for 150 pts of damage, the armor will usually absorb about 100 of that damage leaving 50 of it coming through to me! The down side is all my secondary HAM bars are reduced to under 100 making regen and use of special abilities really taxing.

When hunting on lok though Id never go out wihtout armor on.. hunting kimas and things liek that where it will be a long battle with a lot of specials beign executed, Ihunt in my underwear. It all really depends on your palying style though. Do you use a lot of specials or not. Do you hunt in groups or not. etc etc etc.

I know for PvP armor is really really useful, expecially padded because it has a special protection from blasts! and as for the bad stats and encumberance you can always get someone to slice your armor for you for better stats!!

I have Ubese armor, (its the armor worn By Leah when she tries to free han from jabba). It protectes well against Kenitic and Blaster damage (20%) but the helemt KILLS your mind pool.. (-160 or so). But all in all very decent armor.

Just wondering if anyone wears armor with unarmed? what type? etc...

I got some chitin everything but the head, feet and hands (trando) and it seems to work pretty well... ofcourse I only use berzerk with it, but thats really all i use anyway.

I wear marine armor sometimes, can be a pain to be overt all the time and then when you die once you go back to covert and can't re-equip the armor.

What it's come down to for me though is that all the armor does is let me live about 5-10 seconds longer. For big big things that I can't knockdown armor isn't enough to save me, and for the smaller stuff I just use knockdown.

For PvP it could be useful, but if I get into PvP i'll probably just try to figure out what people are using against me (ex. Mind shots) and then just wear that piece(ex.helmet). Otherwise even w/o vk's things like lunge end up costing 100+ HAM.

Is there a particular armor that is better suited to the Ranger?

I have found Chitin and Composite are the best... if you find suits of CHitin, let me know

Nothing but Au-Natural here... my ill-gotten cloak (stupid thug) is all the armor I need because if the creature's that close, I'm dead no matter what, no matter how good the armor.... I think I'll forgo the encumbrance thank you very much, though I hear it may help you stay up long-enough to burst away.

All I need now is a cloak or gunman's duster (or some different camouflage pants) that adds to my current camouflage to keep the creature from finding me while I'm sniping him from 60m with my laser rifle (I'm only atWayfair 1here, so maybe we do get that later anyway, but as I understand it just keeps us from drawing agro when running past it,and delays the creature finding us when we start attacking).

That brings to mind another schematic a Ranger should get... the ability to make a guilly (sp?) suit. You know, use local fauna anda littlehide to make a coat that makes you completely blend in with the local fauna even to a creature on top of you - 100% camouflaged while prone unless you attack from melee range (quit firing while he's on top of you till he gets farther away of-course) and probably has a high action encumbrance and lowers burstrun efficiency significantly.A good oneworksgod-likein paintball and jungle warfare. This would be similar to the ideas of a "blind" camp a ranger should be able to build, but wearable all the time. Bounty hunters and rifleman should get the ability to wear one effectively if they don't move, but no-one else and only the ranger can make a prototype or manufacturing schematic for one and only a ranger can crawl around with one without being detected (all dependent on camouflage skills of the player wearing it). I guess it could be slicable to lower encumbrance or required camouflage skill or something, but I don't like that idea. This suit should apply to NPCs and PC detection of you as well and an NPC shouldn't even see a ranger crawing past him in a guilly suit unless it's through the middle of a camp or the ranger pulls out his scout blaster and starts shooting.

A ranger in a blind or guilly suit that performs a rescue should not even draw agro, just temporarily release it from the person being resuced and the ranger or local rifleman should be the one to warningshot away the creature to keep the endangered players safe if that is what is desired. I'm guessing that the ranger might just stay trained on the medic in melee combat and rescue them if they get agro and let the brawlers or pets get the agro back. Attacking a group-agro creature like a voritor lizard while wearing the guilly suit atMaster rangershould prevent the other creatures from even knowing you are there and not agro on you like they would otherwise do unless they are already in melee range when you attack their friend. At this level you should be able to bleed-shot each creature once then peace, then lay there and watch them die or at-least wait till they stop bleeding before attacking again with no need to getup and run away to break the agro on you or warningshot them away.

No armor... I don't like the loss of stats we get with most armor so I just go with the crud I loot. It seems to work even better than any armor I have had (though I have only tried up to Chitin in the armorsmith line).

I used armor for a while but, like some of the other posters in this thread, I didn't like the hit my attributes took while wearing it. I am a Zabrak and I don't have the best secondary stats to begin with and I certainly don't want armor dragging them down even more. I will save armor for PvP.... maybe (I am also going for Master Pistoleer).

Lol. The loss of stats you suffer from armor issmall in comparison to the protection you get. Kinetic and acid are the most often used attack types from mobs.
