Thread: Stop Whining

Yesterday some female entertainer sent me an irate email. I'm a master musician and I happened to be playing a nalargon in a cantina in Mos Espa. I went AFK for dinner to finda whine saying that I was "not very nice" for being an AFK master musician with a nalargon. According to her, this is because people want to hear a master playing a nalargon rather than a newbie playing Starwars1 on slitherhorn. I had no business being there because I didn't need the XP, she said.
She then goes on to say that I was wrong for auto-declining group invitations. She explained that is because the members of the entertainer group were entitled to the XP boosts I provide.
I'm a master musician. I group with other masters. This is so I never have to hear starwars1 again. If you are an entertainer who cannot compete with an AFKer, I suggest you take up tailoring or pikemanship.
Stop whining.
I have mixed feelings about this.
#1, you're effectively whining about the whining.
I'm not calling you a hypocrit, but I ampointing out the humor in the irony.
#2, I have come to really dislike AFK macroers. Reasons stated in another thread. You don't have to care, though--they are my own opinions.
#3, I don't think it's necessarily rude that you auto-decline group invitations. I also think it was wrong of the person to demand the xp boost you provide. But if you're AFK macroing with a Nalargon and taking center stage and declining group invitations, then I think there is a problem. You'd be stepping on the toes of every other entertainer in the cantina. Personally, I wouldn't like you either. But let's hope that's not what you're doing.
Try SW1 again. its not a bad song. on a Nalagon and a bandfill with no horns in the group. People don't even know its SW1 you are playing. Oh and shame on you stealing all those uber tips the musicians bring in (cough) from the slimehorn players.

I'd also like to suggest that you try SW1 again -- with no horns. Get two mandos, a couple nalargons, and drums, and you have one great tune. The mandos sound like electric guitars, and the guitar loops are just great, IMHO. The nalargon loops are less exciting -- not great solo material here, except maybe flos 6 thru 8 -- but it's still a cool electric-keyboard sound. The drum loops are great.
Just leave out those horns. ![]()
most of the entertainers are playing music becouse they love to play music and entertain people
if your not going to be at the computer then what is the point of you playing???
seems to me you cant socialize at that is a mian point ina MMORPG
you have max exp so thats not the reason
it cant be money people dont play to make money and if the y do then they soon will realize that its the wrong profession
so what is the point to not being infront of your computer and still playing?
dose it help you ? very little
will it make others angry? yes defently
you split the attension of people listening and they tend to ooogle over the new instruments so while your getting no joy or benifit out of your computer playing and you not even at it you are majorly hurting the strugeling entertainers who are working to entertain!
I wish the DEV wolkd take off that afk switch make it always on and set it to 5 min
5 min is more than enough time to go to the bathroom gt a drink anwser a phone call
but if your going to go spend 30 min eating dinner andthe entire time and steel costomers and exp from people that realy need it thats wrong
prices rise and fall on susply and demand your upeseeting that balance you also eating bandwith and keeping other from coming online and actualy playing
its a Massive Multiplayer Online ROLEPLAYING Game
its ment to be INTERACTIVE and SOCIAL not afk played

May I ask what your native language is?
The point of not being at the PC while I play is so I canmake money. Despite your claim to the contrary, professions are about making money. If I AFK overnight while I sleep I can easily take in over 10k.
I am not steeling [sic] anything from anyone. If I had been non-AFK and still refused to join any groups, the whiner's gripes would have been the same. The game is a free market economy. If you're a Mom and Pop, don't whine about Wal-Mart coming to town.

#1: I am not whining, effectively or otherwise. You must have a creative definition of "whining", which is generally understood to involve crying about distress, dissatisfaction, and resentment. It does not mean "chiding", which is what I was doing. And please, spare me a Dueling Dictionarie battle.
#2: Right, I dont have to care.
#3: Did I say I was on center stage? No. The nalargon being the size it is, I always play it with my back against a wall, whether or not I am AFK. Stepping on their toes? Screw them. The purpose of her email was to upbraid me for daring to play a nalargon around non-masters. If they cannot compete with an AFKer by means of their glowing personalities, let them become chefs or fencers. No one is entitled to group with anyone else. That girl's grousing was just like a Mom and Pop store complaining about Wal-Mart coming to town.

This is really true. When I started my musician at launch, I started in the city of Moenia. Not many entertainers there at that time and after awhile I left for Theed to gain xp faster. When I became a master I went back to Moenia and there were still not many regular entertainers there, so I decided to make that my home city again. Idon't play the gamefor a few days and come back to find quite a few entertainers there now, but they are all AFK all the time. Even some master's there are AFK. Rediculous!
What is really true?

I should rectify. I do play SW1 when in a group with other masters. However, guess who is always begging that SW1 be played?
I steal nothing.

I'm not the one who is making it a battle of semantics. You post your opinion in order to get other people to change. To me, that's the same thing that you're complaining about others doing.
#2: Right, I dont have to care.
I expected you wouldn't.

First off, you must have missed the word "if". Secondly, you're "stealing" entertainer healing exp...something they can't get from a terminal but still need to advance. Thirdly, interesting analogy. I've never seen a Wal-Mart run itself overnight with nobody on staff.
Don't misunderstand me. I have no problems with what you do when you're at your computer. Some may find it rude that you don't join them, but I don't really care about that. What I care about and have a problem with is yourattitude that the SWG world owes you a living when you're not even playing the game when in fact the people who are playing (and earning) their keep aren't getting it because of you.
But alas, words change nothing. I don't expect any of this to change a single thing you do.
I have to agree with Tanizaka. I'm not a master yet, but I'm real close, and being so close, I end up grouping with other masters and other higher level musicians. We often do not allow the lower level musicians into our groups, cause we're just sick of hearing SW1, and we want to play jazz, or waltz, and the audience seems to tip alot better when they don't have to hear SW1. If we go to a cantina, and set up, thats our choice, and we don't have to group the new players, I do that alot, but I get sick and tired of not being able to play the higher level songs because newbies are always seeking me out to group with me (I get tells all day, I just lie about where I am, and let them wander around aimlessly looking for me). I can see how it might be rude if I went to a cantina full of Non-AFK musicians (if I go somewhere, and its just all AFK people, I set up, and steal all the exp :-P ), set up, and refused to join their group, that would be stepping on toes, but if I was there first, then thats my cantina, if I won't group you, find somewhere else to go.
You go Tanizaka!
