Thread: How to avoid losing a Bounty Mark during your Investigation

Regarding 5, if I run away 500m will the mark begin moving again or is he stopped for good?
He will NEVER move again and will not even be drawn into the game until you get within 108m.
This is kinda dumb, I know... you'd THINK he would try to get away again. In fact, if you ever run up to a location where there is just a waypoint and you are SURE he is there (i.e. even Ranger Track shows him there), then he will never reappear or move again.
I LOVE having Ranger Track 3. It tells me my mark should be there and even the game knows he is there but it cannot draw him due to a graphics glich. That way I know it's not me going nuts. I get screenshots cause if the system tells me he is there and the droids tell me he is there and my track tells me he is there.. then darn it, he is THERE! LOL.

I wouldn't say "never" but certainly the great majority of the time. There have been "lucky" times where I have left the area and come back to the waypoint to see the mark now standing there. Not often, but it does happen.
Fantastic information though. But one more question: Where was this information when I was grinding investigation?! Lol.
One more thing about unnattackable marks stuck in walls, trees, etc. I don't use pets, but you can draw an aggro over to the mark stuck in a wall or tree then use either lightning cone or actionshot2 and this will aggro the mark on you and get him to move out of the object. You can also get another player to help you by getting her to stand next to the mark and consenting to a duel, at which time you use lightning cone. If the aggro creature you pull is too weak to survive your attacks just put on your armor and punch them, then let them chase you until they are between you and the mark, then equip LLC and cone away. Only hard part can be dealing with mark from such close range, heheheh.

Exceptional work!! This is worthy of a Sticky, and a bump every blasted day. Can Wepps still sticky posts? This will help out alot of BH's on the road to Mastery.
If you were on the same server as me, I'd be offering to buy you a few drinks at the cantina. This is going to help out immensely!
So help me explain this.
My mark was on Corellia so off I went. I land in Kor Vella send out a seeker, it comes back and the mark hasn't move. "Alright", I think "I can wait a few min or try useing a shuttle to get him to move". So I suttle to the little island, Venri i believe. I getthere and send out a seeker, yipee he move and he's heading towards me, 2K away.I think, "hmmm,I'd better move away from the shore so he doesn't stop in the ocean". Somove 600m away from the shore. I sit and waita few minutes then send out another seeker, now the mark is about 260m away.
Shouldn't the mark have stopped at 500m? I could see if I wasrunning to him but I was sitting in one spot.

I have noticed this on occasion as well. I have not been able to confirm this exactly one way or the other, as it seems to be different in some locations than others… it SEEMS, from what I have tracked, that the closer you are to a city or lots of player placed structures, the closer the mark will move before stopping.
It would seem that at some point in the recent past, the waypoint movement distance to the BH might have been changed to the same distance as the max radar distance… 256m. Of course the mark still will not be drawn until you get much closer to him.
I do remember that at one point, the DEVs thought they had solved the “losing the TEF on the bounty mark” bug. I believe this was attempted by making sure the mark was not drawn into the game way too far in advance, and even noticed one time that the mark may move as close as 200m before stopping. But this is rare and again, without knowing what the code for the marks is actually setup to do… I have left 500m as the point where more often than not the waypoint will stop, but not 100% of the time.
I will keep tabs on this and adjust accordingly when I get more data.
Whoa! Awesome information here!
Guys, can we keep this at the top so Thunderheart can see these issues?
