xp I've lost from dying = 275k

xp I've saved from not dying due to having feign death = millions and counting.

Very useful for afk breaks, too. Engage mob, feign, take your break. I'll drop my tk skills before I lose that lifesaver.

FD is like insurance. You hope you never have to use it, but pay the price (skill points) to cover your ar$e just in case you need it. If all goes well - you will say look I never had to use it! But smart ones will never say I wish I never had insurance, because I never had to use it.

I hope to get to a point in my Jedi grind and can say I never had to use my FD (I already did in PvE testing my new LS skills on more than I can handle, but that is not something I should brag about, that was my bad). I hope I go trough the grind withouth getting on the Terms. I beleive, like most (there are few dumb ones sure) I am trying real hard not to get Vis (not just LS but robe and title which most believe does not give vis) in public, etc, but like most I had players drive over me while grinding, U turn "Wow - look a Jedi...", had NPC mobs pop dead smack on the spot where I am grinding on the lair. had stormies walk toward me, etc. Still not on the Terms and hoping to keep it that way. Still think till I am ready to fight a BH stacker with friends, I am going to FD rather than die. My insurance.

I don’t have such a huge ego that I need to say “If I need feign death I’m just not good enough.” I don’t need to “take it like a man”, and just eat 200k of xp loss because I miscalculated. That’s not a badge of honor, it’s a badge of stupidity. Frankly, I have better things to do with my time than re-grind the same xp over and over. The grind is long enough, I don’t need to do it twice.

If you’re so skilled you don’t need a safety net, good for you. I’m not that good, and I don’t have the time to get that good. Insurance is a good thing.

And its not like the ods are even and the fight fair: Master Elite Profession is free to hunt Jedi newbs for no XP and no good money, nothing other than griefing, with nothing to lose (and newb Jedi can lose a LOT of XP that it takes him LOT Longer to make up than any advanced Jedi). Not only that, BH stackers, can abuse faction group TEF, bring friends in a gank squad, etc. Thanks but no thanks from me - who loves to PvP...

You last two are preaching to the choir.

Lets honestly look at why you would need feign.

1. Aggro mobs are too much to handle

2. Bh comes after you

Well, this is an easy break down. Lets address the aggro. First off, if you ever get into a situation that you cannot get out of that is just poor planning. Short of a bugged ham or freakish accident, you should never die. You know exactly what you get yourself in to with the mobs in this game. You should be relatively versed enough to know what you can and cannot take given your force pool, your skills and your abilities. Feign won't help you for the freakish accidents. So that leaves only sheer stupidity to cover. Plan ahead, enough said...

Secondly, bh comes after you. Easy, easy fix. Don't get on the terms.

And there you go, never the need to feign. Insurance or not, it all boils down to user input error.

lol that's what I am saying, I make a lot of errors. It's easy to say "just don't die", it's not so easy to actually do it. hell, I die once a week and I do have feign. It's always exciting to play "race the clock" with my Doctor alt...

If you're never overwhelmed, you're either the Michael Jordan of SWG, or you're not taking any risks.

Jester, all said well and good however it takes a bit of time as you start out to figure out how much you can handle. When I first started padawan I could handle 2 maybe 3 quenkers at a time, add the 4th and I was in trouble, plus have a voritor or two and adash offierce piket wander over and decide to join to the fun without an invite and trouble adds up quickly and hard to run from.

I agree though once you understand your limits, FD should not be needed and probably not useful with a BH

Animal scare now is my handy get out of troublespecial.

I spent the first weeks with a training saber because I didn't have the crystals. Not because I wanted to. I know how difficult it can be. I know I'm beating a dead horse but the skills you give up in favor of feign are as important if not more so.

I just think that as a community we're causing undo grief for ourselves with the use of feign and we're trivalizing smugglers by using it. I can understand why a bh (and I've known a few that do) would sit there for hours waiting for someone to come out of feign. While a valid skill, its over use will cause it to be nerfed.

No need for FD. I started with MTKA, Medic 4040, Smuggler 0010 and some Rifle skills. I am very close to dropping FD soon. I have Lightsaber 0040, Healing 2000, Enhance 2002 (Force Run and Channel are awesome), Novice Defender. I used FD once to avoid getting killed by a BH and then I realized all that did was make matters worse. Just take the hit and get it over with. Its kinda like the flu when you get on the terminals. You can take the shot and be healthy that day or you have to wait it out for 3 weeks in bed. Screw that, give me the shot. FD is not the answer it just delays the inevitable. I’d rather use those 40 skill points for Jedi skills than getting rid of TKA and losing my melee damage migration at this stage.

My pre-jedi template of choice

TKM, FD, Medic 0140, Fencer 3000.

I can heal my own wounds, power boost, force of will.

I can use TKM to fight if I need to.

I can use Stim D's.

I have plenty of defense.

Sound example above, my own noob-jedi template wasnt too dissimilar...

  1. Master TKA

  2. 0010 Smuggler (FD)

  3. 2040 medic (40MU stim E's )

Gave me skillpoint space for all the novices and an LS skill or 2 before i had to remove 2xxx medic, and you can use TKA if it goes pearshaped. FD came in useful when things like food ran out and you perhaps didnt notice, once or twice my pikatta pie would run out and i didnt notice, thenwithin a few seconds your health is dangerously low

You really cant afford to lose much xp as a low-level jedi, so anything that gives you extra chances (FD, FOW) is worth getting...
