Why is it when I ask smugglers to use a reactive micro plating to slice my armor they always tell me to use a armor padding instead? I was looking at the faq and it says at master smuggler that thres a better tool. How exactly does it work? thanks in advance.

To apply better slices, you need to apply the lower of the same version.
I take it you're after armor break slices?
You have to apply the lower level slice before you can apply higher level of the same type. So to slice for armor break and use reactive micro plating, you first need to slice for Armor Break Level 1 (no component required) then slice for Armor Break Level 2 (Shock Absorbant Padding needed) and then Armor Break Level 3 (needing reactive micro plating).
