Thread: Bounty Hunter Prerequisites Time for a change?

I think this is a bad idea. The profession should be fixed. Changing the prereq will benefit the "Golden template" crowd more then people who are seriously interested in seeing some distinct differences between one profession and the next. It will really dissappoint me if this game evolves into every combat character having 70+ percent of the same skills, defenses, and offenses. Thats not rock, paper, scicors. Its red rock, blue rock, green rock.
Kamujin,
I don't think this game will ever evolve into a true "rock, paper, scicors" game. Those type of games are based on classes and implementing certain classes with definitive strengths and weaknesses.
In a skill based game most players are smart enough to identify a prof. weakness and minimize or even worse eliminate that weakness. This is when you get into the "uber" templates that rule PvP which causes everyone who wants a snowballs chance at not getting "owned" to follow the leader.
That's why I feel SWGis fighting a losing battle. The strongeryou make a specific prof.,increases the chance that you have potenital imbalanced the game. Same thing apply's for nerfs as well (remeber the 1st generationBounty Hunters)
Heya,
My personal thoughts here are against the idea of changing scout to brawler. I just had a mull over it in my head for a few minutes and a few things came to me.
First up, tracking to me is extremely useful, not only for pvp, but for pve too. Sure we're Bounty Hunters, but it's nice to take a break fromit every once in a while. I really wouldn't like the option to do something other than kill kill kill taken away from me.
The trapping line isn't over useful, but it seems like natural progression to me to go from being able to practice trapping on animals, then move on to the more advanced NPC then PC trapping. A little like the rangers ability to track animals, then NPCs then PCs as you move up the relevant tree. It sounds right to me, especially if we're getting PC traps eventually.
Camps as well. Even if they aren't needed for droid/vehicle/creature calling, personally, I'd still use them as a portable med center. This happens especially when hunting in groups. Still using camps, means still needing the option to harvest.
Terrain negotiation. There's no way vehicles make up for this alone. There's been countless times that being able to sprint up hills when my target can't has saved me, both pvp and pve. It's a time saver too. Reverting back to no terrain negotiation, thinking about it, would really annoy the heck out of me.
There's already ways to go all out combat. Please don't take away the other choices.
I rekon the BH tree needs something extra, bugs being addressed, skills and/or defences added, but I don't believe the pre-req's need to be changed.
The day the choice to be a scout/marksman/BH completely dissapears and changes to brawler/marksman/BH would be a sad day for me indeed. If anything like this were to go ahead, I know I'd like to see the option of the scout based BHor the brawler based BH. That way the current BH's wouldn't log in to find they no longer exist in their previous form.![]()
I'm quite happy as it is now though, and wouldn't change if the option did arise, no matter how super powerful they are in combat.
Take Care All
Why not make it 4,0,0,0 for scout. and let us choose which way to go from there ? change the LLC to either a flame Thrower or Rifle. Personally I think it should be rifle.
Then you have a spare 42 points to make each BH unique, some will choose hand to hand some pistol some rifle some carbine. Some may simply keep all the scout. then WE can decide what is the best wayWE would like to be a BH and everyone would have to guess what that hunters design is.
Switching it to brawler still doesnt make us unique but clones again of each other. then in a couple of weeks everyone will figure out are main weaknesses and we are right back to square one.
It should be MasterMarksman. Then scout up to explore 4... from there, its anyones guess who we are. and make everyone squirm once again.
said 42 cuz for me its a given im not giving up medic lol
but could wind up with a spare 15 if you run up the tka line.
I believe BH's should be given human traps much like adhesive traps we can make as scouts. I think that we should have to use scout exploration and brawler unarmed much like smugglers. So we would have to master marksman and use 4/0/0/0 scout and 4/0/0/0 brawler. Doesnt make sense to have to "throw" traps at animals... BH"S dont do that. And shouldnt need camps. I never once skinned an NPC.. alsowe should get boosts to Camoflague skill mod as we go up BH tree. Unarmed does makes a LOT of sense. With having a prerequist of unarmed or 4/0/0/0 brawler that gives some of the BH options to go up commando and smuggler trees also for extra specials. I sure wouldnt mind being able to KD a target (using low blow) rather than having to hotkey and switch to my carbine (which in turn killsmyself due to ham costs).
I always imagined BH's as having a lot of relation to smuggler profession anyway. Smugglers are underworld criminals, and sell information and goods to the highest bidder. BH's are much the same. We kill people for a living and usually take the highest paying jobs. In contrast both professions are the same in many ways therefore we should share some of the same skills imo.
Just my .02 cents
Prereq's for Bounty Hunter 2.0
Master marksman (master of weaponry)
Unarmed 4 in brawler (for combat defensive hand to hand)
Creature harvesting 4 in scout (ability to examine weaknesses)
This frees up an aditional19 skill points for use elsewhere (-48 from scout trees, +15 for novice brawler and +14 from unarmed 4) and is still in line with Bh skills.
I see no real benefit to having brawler, andan argument can be made for scout.
We need more defences, or more skill points. I would rather see more defences. With a few fixes for our specials our offensive power is fine.
It would be nice to have some more toys forBH too. Over all we are a strong profession, we just die too easily, especially in PvP (I hate TKAs).
Honestly I think mastering scout makes more sense than brawler. I always have and until they come up with a totally different starting profession I always will.
Lets keep our focus on the problems at hand.
