Well,
1. The Kimo - they attack anything around them with AOE an awful lot now, including speeders and stuff. So maybe that's why it blew up.

2. The jedi was a mission had it on follow target and as soon as I engaged the jedi the droid went down without the option for me to detonate.

Once you entered combat the Jedi probably took down the droid, and once the droid was down it can't be detonated until its stored and called again.

Did it follow the Jedi, and you then shot the Jedi? Or did it follow, you told it to detonate, and before the countdown was over the Jedi killed it?
If you have it on follow and then shoot the Jedi/attack the Jedi yourself, then yeah he can attack the bomb droid and knock it out. The second you personally attack him any pet you have called is attackable by them.
Just like if you were a Creature Handler - if you had your rancor out, and then made it follow the Jedi, then you hit/shot the Jedi yourself, the Jedi could hit the rancor before you could tell it to attack (though, rancors fight back - droids don't unless they have a combat module in them or they're Probots).
To hit the Jedi with your first strike, and not get your bomb droid knocked out before it can detonate, use the droid as your first strike. Here are the steps to take:
Call droid.
Put on follow on the Jedi. They will not be able to attack the droid at this point.
Tell the droid to detonate (do NOT attack the Jedi yourself, your droid gets first shot by detonation)
After droid counts down, it will blow up. You are now attackable by the Jedi and can shoot at them to your heart's content.
They could be balanced if they nerfed their dmg to be like around 1200 maybe, because I used to incap unbuffed players with them (MS)- I dont think that would fly to well in the CU. But maybe 800-1200 dmg, with a KD chance- to start the fight out with a bang is what I miss..
I haven't tried them out, but I thought they were fixed at the end of last month? Anyway...what do I know....
