Thread: I was once a Bh, now I'm a mark :-)

Hey gents. Long time since I visited the BH forums. Lots of lurking, few posts, but what the hell? I'm too lazy to type much.

In my former life I wasA BH. Mastered in Nov. '03, did the melee BH thing for a while, went back to MC/MBH a few months before the CU, blah blah blah. In my time as a BH I hit many marks, without mercy or guilt. Now, I AM the mark, and let me tell ya, I find it to be quite fun and enjoyable. In the last 7 days I have had 20 or so visits from my former associates. 4 of them actually killed me. Cest la vie. No matter what other glowy bat users may say, the exp loss isn't that big of a deal. Take the grind and deal with it. I can honestly say the the Invest grind before mounts, player cities, and vehicles was a hell of a lot harder to do.

Now for the reason I really want to post. We all have our fun stories about killing a mark right? Well, I have one from the other perspective that may just enlighten some of you "newer" Bh. *coughrespeccough* While leaving my group one night to logout I was followed by a BH all the way to my house. Now, normally I will fight a BH who has gone through the effort of tracking me, but at this time I was tired and just wanted to catch some zzzzzzz's. Upon logging in the next day I felt kind of bad that I might be seen as a "house sitter", so I decided to make good on my "bad behaviour".

The first step was to hit the Ryatt Trails. Yup, I went for the first time and killed some Wooks. Allow me to digrees a bit and state that the Trail grind has got to be the most asinine and boring thing a person could possibly do in game. now, back on topic. After raising my visability to an all time high I went back to my home city. When I first arrived our local tailor asked me to visit his tent so he could give me some new threads. Alright! Penace with snazzy duds! Now, this tailor is a bit shy, so his tent has an entry fee of 50K. Now the fun begins.

As I was waiting in the tent a lad appears carrying a proton carbine and drives right to the tent door. Being the polite person I am I ask him to wait a few minutes and I will meet him outside. His responce was of course "I'm not a BH". After pointing out that his proton was equiped I noticed it changed to a laser carb. Smart boy keeping me in the dark like that. After a minute or so of small talk he paid the fee, entered the tent, and started firing away. Or couse, he neglected to remember that BH tefs kick you from private structures. I asked him to please go to the roof of my guild hall where I wuld meet him. He did so. As I was walking up the Hall steps he decided to "Get the jump on me" by shooting before I got to the top. Oops. There's that pesky BH TEF doing it's thing again. After calming him down (he thought I banned him from the Hall because of the red curtain) I assured him that I would still be waiting on the Hall roof when he was ready.I passed the next 5 minutes explaining to him that "No, I will not refund the entry fee you paid to get into the tent" and "No, I am not coming down to fight you on an open plain."

The result of the fight is probably somewhat obvious. He died, I sat down and waited for more company. The 4th BH that showed actually knew what he was doing and took me down after a fairly long fight. /tiphat

The main points to be gleaned?

1. Learn the ediquette. Not all Jedi run and hide on purpose, and some are even willing to fight you straight up.

2. Learn the game mechanics. How can you not know about being teffed from a private structure?

3. See #2

4. If you're going to pay 50k in an attempt to kill a 120k mark then deal with it. I don't mind being hunted, but I will not finance your efforts.

5. A 40k mark is probably not the best one for a new BH to go after, especially if he is setting the time and place. Lads like myself who have taken 2+ years to do the retarded FS grind more than likely have a hell of a lot more experience PvPing than your typical Respec BH. The BH who eventually got me is a long time BH that I remember seeing at the terms way back in '03.

6. This is for any Jedi that happen to be reading this. Fight the BH. Go ahead and make it under your terms. Run to an enclosed area, hide behind a tree to break LOS, dodge behind hills, but stop the lame house sitting and bugged los crap on the trails. The xp lost in a death can be made back, and if the BH wants to sit and wait on you to come out for an hour you have already lost more than what a death costs anyway. Most BH will not bother with you a second time win or lose so long as you stop the lame tactics to get away. You cloaked? Great, it's part of the game. You FR to a port and shuttle away? Great! It's part of the game. You hise in a bugged area where no one can hit you? You truly need to die repeatedly to a BH.

Very nice story! One more thing, I hat being assumed as a respec bh. I am not. One time I got to a house sitting mark, he had a sign on his house. It said "go away respec bh" or something like that. I found that rude. Of course his jedi bud came out and said "duel me" and "I'll pay you if you win". I fought. Question of my honor. After a very long fight, I lost when running out of mind, but he was almost gone too. Very close fight. After some post-death talking we managed to work things out like adults, no hard feelings. I kept my word, dropped mission, and would not take any more for the rest of the day. These are the jedi(dueler, not my mark) I truly respect. The way I acted are the bh's I truly respect. Thanks.

At some point ina Jedi's growth they learn to relish the BH confrontations as a test of skill between two archnemisis. Usually this growth comes at the point where the Jedi learns his skills and feels comfortable in Pvp. As long as both sides act maturely this can be very rewarding and fun.

Sadly there are both BH and Jedi that never reach this stage of maturity (intellectually and in template).

I have never assumed that an approaching Bh is respec. That's the easiest way to lose fast. Had a guildie make that call on a BH that burst
ran into our area. Guildie tells "No good BH would do that. He's a respec and not a problem". 5 seconds later guildie was asking who he could consent for a rez. Assumption of skill is a mistake that both sides make, and it usually costs dearly.

Hope for the best but expect the worste. That way you are never suprised.

very nice post. I basically was teh same thing MBH in a former life.

The LOS definatly needs to be fixed.

I dont have a problem with housesitting as long as the Jedi didnt exploit to get there.

i agree with your posts, but i dont agree that every respec BH dont know the grinding of invest.

i grinded till BH 2224, throught the scout and marksman tree, i former also grinded BE and then CH, so i know what it means to have some hard grinds.

and i also will respec to MBH in the future, but that doesnt mean i dont know the hard grinds or have no honor, fact is many respec BH dont know the grind and stuff, but dont treat every BH or respec BH that they would have no honor or dont know what they had to do before the respec. coz u dont know which temp the BH had before he respect.

only a little post to mention about.

PS: its no whining or something like that, i only cant watch that "dis all respec BH" doing

Good postWarSmurf nice to see a refreshing POV.

The game mechanic thing to learn tofor ourlessexperienced BH's reading this thread. Don't *unless you are totally outclassing your mark* fight in an enclosed space. BH (post pub 20 anyway) are 90%ranged, you'll get owned.

The only time i've ever survived toe to toe with a Jedi was when he was a CL54 odd and i had dropped my health crystal, foods and spices. AndI only went toe to toecoz he waswhining that he would of wonif i had"stopped runningaway" and i couldnt resisthanding him his ass on a plate. Dont letem set the time and placeKeep em ranged!

The gameplay / experiancething to aspire to from this post is the mutual respect we should have for each other as players.

Actually, if you have MBH/MCM, *do* fight in an enclosed space

But yeah, on principle I wouldnt let a Jedi dicatate where I will fight him. If I had WarSmurf's mission I would have been, "Cool dude, you dont want to come out and fight I'll see ya around".

Ride off 1000m, throw up /tar [Jedi name] and wait until I feel nice and cozy about the whole situation... I got the time

But overall, good post WarSmurf

Oh yeah, I would like to add to the list a # 7:

7. Take off the damn MBH tag, throw up one of your novice tags (not a scout one though), and macro your damn armor so you arent riding around in it like a damn NuB. *Before* you attack your mark, hit the armor macro followed by your opening attack (I like KD).

Riding around with the MBH tag, armor on, and proton carbine out is just STUPID.

Then the other bh took you out, so I sent him a congrat tell...looked to be a good fight tho bud, took a while...I was just laying in the dirt covered up.

You were the only mark i could find that didn't give me "due the the unusually high number of lifeforms" yada yada yada...
