Got to share this one...

Had a hunt recently, the bounty was on Dantooine, grouped up and grinding away. A padawan, must have been incomplete template too, (CL75)poor guy.

So they're out in the middle of nowhere, and being new back to the game after months away, I'm eager for action, so I go after them directly. I come up on themark in the middle of a group of pikets, and notice that there's 3 jedi there. They notice me and scatter like roaches when the light's turned on. I stand around patiently ignoring the BS chatter from their friends, and they realise I'm not going anywhere and will likely 'tree' one of them for the day. They don't grind, so they lose out.

So one of the jedi (not the mark), sends me a tell asking "Who are you here for?"

I reply "What's it to you?" This (for some reason) convinced the jedi I was talking to that I had HIS mission.

"It's me, then?"

Me: "Maybe"

Him: "I'll pay you 200k to drop my mission"

Me: "250k, or no deal"

Him: "Greedy."

Me: "Confident. You are safe as soon as I get the money" I was cackling to myself by this point.

Him: "Sent"

I got the e-mail notifying me, and I thanked him, telling him he was now safe.

He and his buddies all congregated back at the creature lair and I bs'ed with them a little, being pally and showing off my proton carbine like a schmuck. (I gave false figures for the DPS and other stats, of course)

I bs'ed about the great new weapons since the CU and how I was new back to the game.

I couldn't believe my luck then: the mark brings out one of his weapons to show off, changing his lightsaber for a dawnsorrow rifle, I think it was (not that it matters hehe) I decided not to waste any more time.

I opened up onthe markout of nowhere, laying him flat out in 10 secs, maybe less. I wasn't counting. (912 dps on that carbine when pup'd, btw. It's an action-eater, but if you get surprise you get a dead jedi, and full food and buffs guarantees at least 20 secs ofall-out special attackrock-n-roll. For fights that look a little tougher, I use an SAC pup. My baby is still pretty fast, and the reduced action costs let me wear down the mark. But I digress.)

I hit DB, got the timer while his buddies were still all going **edit**?!?!? and left without a word.

Props to the jedi concerned, though. They didn't whine or send hate tells. They were obviously smart enough to realise that I had never actually said "I have your mission" or "I dropped your mission".

The only tell I got was "Damn, that was cold-blooded!" after 5 mins.

Just the sort of thing I like to hear.

Hate to pop your bubble, but I'm fairly sure that's against the TOS. Of course, the Jedi is either honourable or stupid if they didn't use /duel on you to find out if you're hunting them. But at any rate, he paid you on the assumption you had his mission and you were going to drop it, basically paying for a service you did not deliver. Same idea behind if you paid a doc to buff you and didn't get any buffs.

Na, doubt its against the TOS. Even if it was his mark that paid em and the BH still killed em. Not an issue, SOEdoesn't hold any players responsible for any bad trades from my understanding (could be wrong). Swindler, cold-hearted scum, yes, but TOS violator, doubt it. The jedi offered money before the BH said much of anything.
