Thread: Tanks & Community: What do you think about adding GMA, GMS & Melee Attacks to the BH tree?

I always wanted to do a viable Melee BH Template. I know it's been brought up before, but I don't recall ever seeing any real proposals. Just curious what the Cor & BH Community thought...

GMA= General Melee Accuracy

GMS= General Melee Speed

much like the generic Ranged Speed and Accuracy BHs already get...

Not sure...not sure but a TK/BH stacking Duelist Stance and Advanced CoB, while having the ability to Armor break would be a tad unbalanced

I think something has to be done so Melee BH's can be viable again... As is right now, you're wasting a large portion of your points on all ranged mods, which are useless to a melee BH.

If you want to go the melee route and try and make it viable, change the requirements for novice bounty hunter. You could make it so there are 2 possible routs to NBH; with ranged still taking up 4000 scout / 0004 marksman or the melee route of 4000 scout and one line of brawler. It waould not matter what line in brawler they take just as long as it ties up the same amount of SP that a ranged professions would have to use in marksman. Once NBH is achived by a melee profession they would get bonus and attacks that would benefit them. This would enable the melee BH to as effective as a ranged BH, both types of BH would have 52 SP after MBH and a elite profession to spend somewhere else. That is my thoughts on this subject.

I thought I'd add a positive response here seeing as you got a few of the less than helpful folks chiming in already.

I think this is a fantastic idea and I would love to see it implemented. If there is one thing this game is sorely in need of at the moment, it's diversity. Melee professions as a whole got seriously nerfed with the CU and are only beginning to find ways to compensate. Even at that, they're still not really on an even playing field with ranged professions. I see no reason that melee players should not recieve the same bonuses to melee speed and accuracy as ranged players do to their professions. Heck, they wouldn't even have to differentiate the skillsets. Just add the melee bonuses to the boxes that already exist is BH. So long as nothing completely unbalancing happened as a side effect(CoB stacking with Duelist Stance for example), I don't see how this would be a problem.

It would mean Jedi would need to be prepared for both ranged and melee fighters which would add to the balancing effect of the BH element of surprise. It would allow people to choose whether they wanted to be a ranged or melee BH, or even do a bit of creative dabbling in both if they so chose. It would mean that not every BH would be running around with a proton carbine. Nor would every BH/Jedi encounter turn into a kiting contest.

The best thing about any RPG is the ability to customize your character to fit your playstyle and personality. This would let players do just that, so I don't see how it can be a bad thing. Nice idea! I'd love to see something like this implemented, even though I have no intention of ever putting my rifle down

Good feedback, thanks. Diversity would be a good way to balance the Jedi hunt as well. Like you say, they would need to be prepared for BH standing toe to toe.

There is a very real problem with adding more power to the BH tree, be it more defences, or better specials, or whatever --and it has nothing to do with huntingJedi. The problem is that it unbalances BH for the rest of the game. In the quest to make BH's equal to Jedi, you would make BH's the same PvP pariahs that Jedi have become. Nobody would want BH's participating in GCW combat. Everyone would complain about BH's camping the phat lewt spawns. PvP tournaments wouldneed 3 competition branches, not 2. Everybody would be a BH except the Jedi, it would become evenmore of a FotM that it was immediately post-CU, more of a FotM than TKM was at the height of theknockdown craze.

If the devs decide BH's need to be even more powerful than they are in order to stand toe-to-toe with a Knight, then that power needs to be granted in such a way that it is only gained upon initiation of combat with a player for which you hold a bounty, and is revoked upon conclusion of that encounter.

The SWG Forums. You will never find a more wretched hive of
catassery and buttmonkeyism. We must be cautious.
