Thread: Would adding Player Bounties help the Jedi/BH issue?

I've been a Bounty Hunter for a while now and to tell you the truth I wanted to be on since day one of the game when I first step into the SWG world. Yet I have only recently become very active with my profession and begun to understand it and post here, as you will see my posting more often.

Every since this game began there have been rumors and hopes of the day when Bounty Hunters would be able to hunt other players, when we could actually do what our name implies that we do. When Jedi first came out we got a taste of what it would be like and they are to this date our only Player marks we can take, which is why I think we have such problems with them.

It has always been my hope that one day I will read on patch notes that Bounty Hunter will be able to hunt all player and not just Jedi. It has been Two and a Half years and I'm still wondering when that day will be.

Does anyone else feel that this may help with the BH/Jedi situation? and that maybe if Bounty Hunter were able to hunt all players, that Jedi would be less likely to hide in houses or avoid confrontation?

so instead of hatred between just two professions, you mean to spread the hatred among other professions as well?

Yes I know there are some PvP type folks who say "Yeah, I'm all for it! Bring it on!"

But the BH/Jedi thing has already proven that it is not the PvP minded that most BH's prefer to target. Most BH's want to go for the ones they KNOW it will fustrate the most.... They live off knowing they just ruined someones gameplay. Then We'll have MANY PvE minded players in uproars over having their game ruined by the "I PWNED JOO NOOB!" 1337-doodz.

And then all we will ever hear is "You chose to play a combat profession, either deal with it or go crafter or dancer!!!!"

I'm not talking about just placing every player in the game on the terminals and saying "Sucks for you."

There would obviously be circumstances that would place players on the terminals for example:

-Players of certain factions who PvP often

-Players who attack NPC faction bases

-High Ranking Players in either Faction, with the combination of the above

and many other things that would add to a player being put on the terminals, just like with Jedi and "Visibilty" system. Not a system where crafters are being destroyed by BHs when all they are doing is hanging out in their house.

And I don't believe it would spread hate, it would make the game more interesting and Jedi would be alittle less worried about BHs picking up their missions all the time.

If it's done right it would work. If a player engages in PvP they should run the risk of making it to the terms. End of story. The simple truth is nomatter what they do with the game, someone is always gonna cry about something, because that's human nature.

It's not the fact that Jedi and BH's are put against each other that brings the hatred it's the attitudes of the players behind the characters.

A BH that comes and kills me is just playing the game the way it was designed, while it causes me penalties that I could do without why should their be any hatred involved? The BH didn't make this system theyare just playing it out.

The BH by choice picks a Jedi mission and are to do whatever means they have at their disposal to kill the Jedi and complete the mission. As long as no exploits are involved anything is viable regardless of personal opinion on tactics, skills used, or the timing.

The Jedi by choice either has to defeat the BH or Escape by whatever means they have at their disposal. Same thing as long as no exploits are involved anything is viable regardless of personal opinion.

We got Jedi that think they should be invincible and BH's that think they should defeat every Jedi they encounter and these people are constantly at each others throats on the forums crying because the game isn't going the way they WANT it to.

Non-Jedi have hatred because in alot of situations we are an UNBALANCING factor which is disruptive to normal gameplay.

Hell there is more PVP in the forums then in the game.

What about anyone with a PvP rating of 1300+ can be put on the terms for for a short time.Sayif a BH failes a mission, or a smugglerfor slicinga lot, or any other combat temp for doing a lot of PvP. And a really bad musician who playes terrible tunes. I am surethere are plenty of thing that can be done to add more content like this.

You must be pretty bad if you think 1300 is good.

Talk about paranoid..

There is only a Civil War going on during the time line of this game... God forbid someone has trouble or two people don't like each other through a war.

Much as I'd like to see bhs getting more targets, and bother me less I think this would be a bad idea.

The jedi vs. bh symbiosis has a delicate power balance, that isn't very balanced as it is.

BH should, by many peoples view, be able to solo a jedi. "it's what we do".

Jedi on the other hand is supposed to be the toughest of the lot. "time invested, yield result blahblah"

So, what you want to do is pit bh, a grind that takes roughly 5 days of grinding if you are one eyed, against every conceivable professsion that pops up on the terminals?

Naturally, "bh should be able to solo anything.. its what we do".. so why in the dickens would anyone want to play anything else than bh that takes only a few days to grind?

Naah.. jedi vs. bh is delicate enough as it is, no need to include the rest of the professions to this borked system. bad idea!

So you don't think other professions should be able to have a fighting chance against a Jedi one on one because you grind longer? Personally, I would like to see all combat professions have a fighting chance against a jedi or BH one on one.

Being rather new to the bounty hunter profession and lurkin in the boards here...... I see alot of the whining and such between us and jedi....... I have hunted but one jedi since I became MBH.... he was fighting a krayt when I came riding up...... I could have role-played and smoked him then and there...... alot of BH's would have done that...... to me that is not my style...... but I am merely one against many....... you can not make everybody happy..... but for those of us who enjoy the game...... we can learn to play in a manner that suits us..... makes us happy..... I did duel him afterwards...... no DB..... he kicked my tail....... I had alot yet to learn against jedi...... adding other professions to hate us could work but I think they should get it ironed out between jedi and bh first...... I have met various jedi who hate me instantly becasuse I am a MBH.... regardless if I hunt them or not....... I enjoy the NPC marks..... being on dath after a level 82 elite boss with rancors chasing me..... challenging to me.... fun enough

PVP is such a hard system to manage..... as in keeping a balance..... lets face it there is always gonna be a template or such that will rule .... no way around that...... to those who whine about it.... go play a first person shooter where its skill only...... Quake4 is coming out.... see ya around.......

Its an interesting idea to hunt other than jedi...... but needs alot of work..... yes a BH is too hunt all....... easy suggestion..... like the GCW you have a choice to be on leave covert or spec ops................. make it the same for them...... they have a choice to have the chance of ending up on the boards BH included..... then once we are hunted by our own as we would be in a real situation anyhow....... that would be cool to know as I sat in a cantina talkin to a dancer that I could be hunted (saying I chose too be) ... but it is merely my opinion and I know what they say about that.......

I think there is alot that needs done in the PVP world...... hardest part for me is dealin with immature people...... but you have that anywhere you have all ages in the same environment...... am I Uber l33t etc..... nah...... just someone who is a fan of star wars and enjoys the game.......

I have left my .02 and rambled enough........

I can assure you that the PvP is not what jedi resent. It's the loss of XP that is inflicted on them for playing the game. Remove XP loss and jedi hating BH's will stop...instantly. And I agree with the poster in here who said that many BH's actually hunt jedi because it causes XP loss to other players. This SOE-endorsed "griefing" is what this particular breed of BH's thrive on and live for.

Originally I believe that the XP loss was enstated in order to actually limit the jedi population. I think we can all agree that this was a good "theory" but failed miserably in "practice". All it has achieved is a timesink only beneficial with regards to players hanging onto their accounts longer than they otherwise would have. But gamewise it has acheivednothing else but frustrate the jedi playerbase. BH's are the obvious and natural targets for jedi to vent their frustration on, allthough it should rightfully be directed at the gamedesigners. It could be foreseen...and perhaps it even was.

As for hunting other players I don't think you will get much hatred, UNLESS...you cause them grief for fullfilling a bounty (either XPloss, credit loss, item lossor any other loss intended purposely to frustrate and disrupt their gameplay). Dare I say that many would find it fun and excellent gaming content. The jedi would...if only it didn't cause them the grief of "starting over" regaining lost XP because of being the BH's online gaming content.
