now this isnt a theory on how to unlock the FS slot so if that's what you want click back:

now what if the jedi could tell if someone else was a jedi or not and could send telepathic messages to them in the form of system messages. now only a jedi knight and master should be able to have this skill. so imagine you are a jedi padawan and all of a sudden a system message came up saying, "You will come to me my young apprentice", or something like that, and it was from anther PC jedi. then the jedi could keep on sending the messages to arrange a meeting somehow, and the the knight or master could train the padawan.

i think this would be cool, and it allows jedi to gain apprentice points in actual jedi skills, then in some other proffesion.

So you broadcast your message using the Force. At the designated meeting time Mara Jade shows up and teaches you how to remove your head from your shoulders...

The Devs said some people were very close to opening their FSCS, which means that for very few people, all they had to do was master a profession or two. This could be true for only a FEW, the vast majority would be wide of the mark. So, the Devs could toss out a clue knowing that only a handful of the players who were mastering professions would have any chance of opening the slot. So, I suspect in a short while one person will master a profession and Bingo! their FSCS will open. The rest, having sacrificed their skills and mastered the profession would be SOL as they hadn't met the other pre-requisites. I doubt the Devs are going to be handing out many more clues.

I would consider it an honour if this promoted any discussion

I just had a thought. Sorry if this didnt really follow ur train of thought. What if the person who did open their slot was not a boards poster. HAHAHA he could be a force sensitive for months and no one would even know it had been opened.

devs will tell us when someone opens it

and mastering the professions isnt a waste.. you do the professions until you get the "continue down your path" message and you go back to searching doing whatever professions you want.

i disagree they are not going to trick us, why do you think that they gave us the clue in the first place when all along they said they wouldnt (they even changed things in game to give us hints) they said they were getting nervous (or somthing i dont remember the exact word) that nobody had opened the slot yet,

the devs are affriad of losing customers PERIOD if people dont start unlocking the fss soon people will start loosing hope of ever unlocking a slot of there own and will start to cancel their account

and if there is more to this that just mastering professions and we dont figure it out in a month or so i would be willing to bet 100 bucks we get another clue by thanksgiving

the devs need jedi before christmas, before the space expasion comes out

you need to remeber even though its a game to us its money to them the last thing they want is people cancelling account, and to keep active accounts they need jedi

Efesto quoth:

Ah. Yep, but that is only if mastering professions is all there is to it. I'm suggesting there was a long list like: visit all the starports in the galaxy, kill at least one Krayt dragon, type the word 'fart' in front of an NPC.... I dunno - a huge list of whatever, unique to that character. a very few people have done all that and Mastering a profession or two was all that was left. So, opening the slot will only be achieved by a handful of those people who are currently following the directions of the holocron.

Oh I don't think they tried to trick us. I think they are smart and even an idiot could see the spawns were going to be camped by AT STs and uber players. Do you think the Devs are thick? So, poetic justice for the MAJORITY of players and a severe lesson for the people who were too uber and greedy or too rich. The point is, it would preserve the integrity of the Jedi slot, be consistent with the promises the Devs have made and still get the majority of people guessing how the hell you open your slot. Seems to cover a lot of bases for me.

i see your point, but like i said before their point is money, they want accounts to stay open and more to join so they need jedi, it may be about the integrity of the game to lots of peolple (even the devs) but at the end of the day they will not sacrifice money for a little integrity

maybe trick was a bad term to use, but they will HELP us if they need jedi sooner

True but I suspect they will lose less money this way than any other. It isn't just a random bunch of players, it's ones that have probably achieved most of what the game has to offer. It would be ironic if the most powerful and rich people on the server willingly sacrificed their character to gain knowledge for the majority of players. I think the ones with a well-developed sense of irony would stay and continue to enhance the game.

I feel that there isn't a clear vision for what Jedi are supposed to be or how they are supposed to interface with the rest of the SWG universe. This seems to me to be the key focus of much of the discussion. Issues like permadeath, balance, decay, all appear to be linked to this lack of definition.

For what it is worth, here is my vision:

Jedi should be powerful once they pass the Padawan box. Powerful enough to take a Bounty Hunter with ease. Powerful enough to get away from a group of 4-5 elite combat professions if necessary.

Jedi should NOT be able to stand in town laying waste to everything in sight without fear of reprecussions. Even at master level.

Jedi should be instrumental in the Galactic Civil War and other key events in the storyline of SWG. But they should not be able to determine the outcome based on their numbers alone.

Playing a Jedi should be hard to achieve, but once mastery is achieved there should be both PvE and PvP options that are worth pursuing. These pursuits should be known to all, affect the entire gaming experience, and give each server a unique unfolding drama to follow and participate in.

As part of this vision, there are many ways to achieve some of these aspects. I feel that the idea offered below addresses them in a feasible manner, and one that would be fun for all involved.

When you get your initial e-mail it cautions you against the frailness of Jedi when it comes to cloning. Fair enough, three clones and you're done.

WHAT IF, you only got three clones, ever? Period. BUT, you could be revived by a master doc, at the cost of one Jedi Vitality point. Vitality could be earned by completing Jedi specific quests, or other new, difficult content added to the game. The max vitality you could achieve would be 3 Jedi Vitality Points at any given time, to avoid the LEET DEWD with 235546 vitality points and 50 docs standing in town making a miserable time for everyone else.

IMAGINE the battles trying to keep a downed Jedi from being revived? Jedi would be morewilling to come out and fight and depend on all the other classes in the game to not only keep them alive, but to rescue them in the event of failure. Lose a vitality point? Back to hiding and attempting to regain your loss. Imagine the developing storylines surrounding battling Jedi. The massive attacks and counter attacks to finally get a Jedi to clone.

Right now it seems that we are fighting the idea of making Jedi so powerful that nobody but the Jedi will enjoy the game versus making Jedi so annoyingly difficult and frail that they are irrelevant to the SWG universe.

Cheers,

Blackk Label
