Thread: Tips for grinding Investigation 3
A few questions:
1. Can I avoid losing the mark (WP stays at a shuttle though three driods) by driving to him?
2. Do the marks even move if I don't shuttle once I am on the right planet and have sent the first seeker?
3. how much Investigation XP is there to be had per mission (I have 6k to go at this rate it may take weeks)
4. With how slow my droids are will the mark have moved once the waypoint comes back?
5. Are there any general tips you can share regarding NPC missions?
Thanks for your time, I have looked at the guide but I did not find the answers I was looking for, hopefully somone can help me out.
- From the sec your probe droid gives the planet you have about5-7 mins to get to that planet and way-point. During this timer your mark is still "moving" to the system and will update appropiatly if you don't make it in time.
- See point 1
- Not sure back when I did Invest 3I got about 14xp permission.
- Yes. Droid Precision and Tracking Droid Precision SEA's will narrow how far away your mark is in relation to the way point. Keep in mind if the way points 5 mins old your mark won't be anywhere near it.
- With JTL and 1 min shuttles it's very very easy to get tothe planet and to your mark before the timer in point 1 runs out. b I have seen the timer last from as short as 3 min to as long as 15 mins avg is 5-7 mins. You can use seekers to update your marks way point but since you dont have the track skill yet it will only update once per seeker. Once you have the track skill Tracking Droids SEA's will add 1 update per +1 of the SEA. With +25 in Tracking Droids you capp at 32 updates per seeker released at MBH.

I am new to bounty hunter and have decided to go through it the hard way and not slice bases where I can avoid it(if the guild needs me I must go)... I capped XP and trained investigation 1 and 2 now I am working on 3... here is the problem apperantly at 3 the mark moves and I lack the droid track ability.

Not sure what you are asking here... The marks always move on me. Even with an active droid on them, they are walkers. If you get to the WP and the mark is not there, look up the mark's name in your mission profile and do /tar markname. Sometimes they will be within about 200m or so of the wp. This will find them, if they are local.
2. Do the marks even move if I don't shuttle once I am on the right planet and have sent the first seeker?
The always move around on me. Typically I will shuttle in and have the arakyd location, then when I release the seeker, they have jumped about 10k away.
3. how much Investigation XP is there to be had per mission (I have 6k to go at this rate it may take weeks)
I think it's about 500 per mission. It's not a lot, but you can do it with patience and effort... this is one of the toughest grinds in the game. I would suggest slicing bases to speed things up, but it's up to you. You will get good smuggler loot along the grind though. You can recycle this into your guild, or sell it... your choice.
4. With how slow my droids are will the mark have moved once the waypoint comes back?
9 out of 10 times, yes
5. Are there any general tips you can share regarding NPC missions?
NPCs at this level are "easy" you shouldn't need buffs or many foods to chase em down. Some blob candy and maybe a spice neutron pixie/booster blue depending on your template should be all you need on npc mission. Also... unless you adk'd a nice rifle/pistol/carbine I would just use a base capped damage Advanced Laser Rifle. You can pick one up with 955-988max dmg, 2.5 speed, and 83-88sac for about 100k on most servers.
Also, I wouldn't wear expensive armor since you want to save that for Jedi hunting/PvP/HighLevelPvE. You can get away with mid level 6000 resist comp armor across the board.

The nice thing about grinding the hard way is that once you hit level 65, you won't find yourself needing new weapons or armor until you hit master, so you should have enough credits to buy you something nice when you're done with the grind.
As for sage advice,if it looks like your mark is in a body of water or close to the edge of the map, wait until the seeker stops sending updates and then send another one. It might seem like a waste of a seeker, but it'll save you a lot of time and frustration in the long run.
You might already know this, but marks almost always use area attacks. If you stand by a lair and your mark hits it, the creatures aggro on him. And if you see any aggressive creatures nearby, use mask scent.

Inv 3 and 4 gets expensive on droids and takes ALOT of time, if you got a friend on the opposite faction that can give you waypoints to a bunch of PVE forward outposts you can slice bases all day without having to blow them and get 1000 xp per. But of course you'll need at least 3 or 4 other guys to help you through the base or agro the mob while you run in- and if you get agroed inside while accessing the term, let yourself incap and continue on jamming the terminal when you get up.

Hehehe... this is actually the prescribed method of MANY BH's on my server. The mentality is: it's not illegal if you don't get caught... But if you are a rebel in my city, and I see you enter a base, I'm following you into the base to see what you are up to. If you use this, I will report you for it. You will lose your xp, and the base will go back to normal.
This isn't to stop BH's though.... I typically won't report them unless I don't like them. This is 99% of time used for the base bombs with feign death who run into a base and FD at all the terminals to slice them up and blow the base. CSRs WILL recover the base, and you WILL lose your experience. Just an FYI

ok, I'm new to the BH proff, grinding into it from Master Pistoleer/Riflemen.
I see alot of posts about base slicing to cut down time on Investgation.
Does anybody have a link to how to do this? The search keeps borking out on me![]()
