Thread: Tips For Soloing Boss Marks

First let me say that I don't claim to be an expert at soloing or PVE, but I've noticed, from reading the forums that some folks have a hard time taking down these Lvl82, 35k HAM marks, some even aborting the missions. In the spirit of lending a helping hand, I thought I would share a few tips that aid me in taking these guys down. As I said, I don't claim to know it all, so any that have other tips, feel free to post them.

1) This is fairly obvious but should be stated. Prepare well, always get full buffs and have uncrated chef food and drink at your disposal. I like Vaserian Brandy, Vagnerian Canape and Sythsteak but use whatever you like the best.

2) Have solid epuipment. Wear good armor and a fully charged PSG. Have a good damage weapon but make sure the SAC is LOW!!!! You want maximum use of your action bar, so low sac is more important than max damage.

3) Have some healing ability. If possible, get novice medic and at least 1 healing effiecency box. Having this will allow you to heal yourself for 420 to 480. Since the Bosses hit for about 250 to about 500 damage, you should be able to heal quicker than he can damage you, if need be. If you don't have medic, then try using stimpaks and Ruby Biel to keep your health up.

4) Use state effect shots. Keep the mark stunned and knocked down as much as possible. Before you heal yourself, use startle shot, this will delay him until you fire again. It will be a longer than normal fight, you'll be able to knock him down at least two or three times. He can't fire at you on his back. Also, don't forget duelist stance, this will signifigantly lower the damage he does to you. I power up with this before I even fire a shot.

5) Use the Terrain. Make the mark close on you the hard way, up hill or through water. Particularly water, they swim slower than they run. If you get in trouble, use a hill or a building to break the line of sight until you can heal and come back strong.

6) Use the mobs around you. For whatever reason, when fighting these guys, they always seem to use an area shot of some kind. If you postion yourself in front of another mob and or lair while fighting, evetually he will use that area shot and aggro the beasts behind you. They will then tank the boss for you while you pour on the damage. One thing to remember though, Make sure the beasts behind you, and their lair is within range of the Bosses weapon.

I hope these tips help!

A nice R3 droid loaded with combat modules helps too. That way if you do have to get out of line of sight at least he's still taking damage.
Nice guide btw.

Not as long as driving out to the middle of Endor and aborting the mission. It only takes a few minutes to down one. I have also looted good stuff off 7k mobs, but I've only looted the weapon enhancements off the 35k guys.

Funny thing last night. I head out to my mark and find him dead center in the middle of a river...So, I'm within firing range from land, so I snare him..LOL Sweet jesus...needless to say, he was "dead in the water"
He was swimming like a turtle..

That must be nice. Anytime I attack someting that's in the water, they still can fire back at me, swimming or not.

I haven't got any boss marks with 35K HAM yet, but have found also using a rifle and staying out of his usually carbine range (with root) helps also with the tougher ones.

Sorry, I was refering to their HAM not the mission payout.

Keep running. I don't kite them but I continuelly (sp?) run in circles around him, this raises their misses a ton. If you are a cm use the attack slowing de-buff, fire, poison and shock. Then stick dizzy/stun and blind on them and you should be ok.

Yes, inflicting as many states as possible is important. I think some fail because they use only high damage shots like advanced critical. While you want to inflict as much damage as possible, you also want reduce his ability to damage you!

After i killed my 1st one and barely survived (247 healthe left and no mind lol) i was more prepered after that.

So i remembered to take my extra food drink, beside my usuall stuff. That extra being the ranged def. and acc. (crispic) and Ruby for extra heal (not neccessary though for me being CM 4000).

Start with starting duel stance and just apply the states i have in my template, stun, blind, intim, warning and then KD and damage shots, and just keep doing that until hes dead.

I have soloed 2 of these by now. I rarely check their HAM as I know how to solo the 17k HAM ones, but sometimes you hit the "jackpot" (depends on the point of view if you were actually lucky to get these guys or not) and there, it's 35k HAM.

Needless to say, I got tripple-incapped in both cases the first try, as I neglected the HAM value (in which I used my hero ring, I still have 46 charges on it so I'm fine).

So here are my tips (my template is MMarksman, MRifleman, MBH, Pistoleer xxx3):

  1. Check the HAM. If it's 35k, then you should prepare for a long fight.

  2. Don't waste time with sniping shot if you're a Rifleman, because it just gives you a disadvantage, as you will want to kite him and proning doesn't help.

  3. Make sure to get a 7.5k+ energy layered armor (I have a 7.9k energy protection recon armor). This will really reduce the damage. I've heard that these guys take lower energy protected guys for about 800 damage a hit, but 650 is normal if you don't have good armor. I kept on getting hit for 550 damage.

  4. Also, activate a fully charged PSG. I have one that's 2.3k energy protection with fast recharge rate, and it works wonders. This lowers damage a bit, and he hit me for 500 damage only after PSG. Imperial Test Prototypes are also good as they give accuracy bonuses.

  5. Run your Duelist Stance macro. This is available here on the forum somewhere, and it's fairly easy to make one anyway. With Duelist Stance, the mark hit me for 350 damage only!

  6. Drink Vagnerian Canape and shoot yourself up with some Neutron Pixies. Blob Candy is optional for the extra action regen. This will give you around +960 health if you're CL80, and amazing action regen rates, as well as health regen rates (in case the mark retreats, it gives you a quicker heal rate). Don't use drinks at any cost if you're not CM, Medic or Doctor! You'll need it for Ruby Bliel and Stim Ds!

  7. Cycle between special shots. NEVER use the regular "Ranged Shot" thing, as it's a waste of your overall potential damage output. Make sure your weapon has good damage and good SAC rates (90 and below, but 84 would do the trick with the food). I prefer to put a damage PUP that lowers speed (1.54 without PUP, 1.74 with PUP and I'm not even speed capped yet, but it doesn't really affect me that much after all). SAC IS EVERYTHING.

  8. After the first 1-2 hits, KD him. Keep on firing. Use this time to do maximum damage, not state and debuff shots! I'll explain why in a moment.

  9. After he gets up, you'll notice that his action pool will regenerate like abnormal hair growth on a Wookie. Don't panic, as the typical "I'll let him run out of action points" or "I'll let him run out of force" tactics that work on PvP don't work on PvE mostly anyway.

  10. Snare him immediatelly when he gets up. Use /kneecap (or click the kneecap shot, better), or use the Smuggler snare, or whatever snare you've got. Just snare him.

  11. Start running away, and after you reach 58 meters, he won't be able to shoot at you! His range isn't that far, EVEN those using rifles! Start running in circles as you'll be running faster than him. Be careful, as once you get stuck on a debris, you immediatelly get KDd by the guy, and you're screwed if he gets closer than 35 meters.

  12. Root him if you have the ability to do so! Root, stand at 58-60 meters and keep cycling between Critical Shot and Head Shot (of course, this is strictly for Riflemen out there).

  13. Once the root runs out, KD him and do the same things I've been talking about above.

  14. If you find any other MOBs in the area, run through them! Especially the ones on Endor are usually CL40 and such, so they'll help you out, but since you'll deal more damage, you'll get the loot!

  15. DON'T, AT ANY COST, WHILE KITING, RUN OFF TOO FAR FROM WHERE THE MARK HAS FIRST APPEARED!

  16. Drink Ruby first before you use your very first stimpack. You'll get to use 2 stimpacks in a row. Then spam Ruby and use stimpack, until your stomach is full with drinks. If need arises, pee in your pants or armor!

  17. While the target is snared, rooted or whatever and is outside the 58 meter range, since he can't attack you, use your state shots! I'd say startle first, and then dizzy, stun, BLIND (!!!), etc. That way you'll be able to weaken the mark without yourself getting any damage.

  18. IF YOU ARE NOT USING A LONG RANGE WEAPON: Run through your mark! Yes! Run through him and stand 1m away from him! He'll switch to melee, but DON'T stand there for too long as your kinetic protection isn't that great and you'll get screwed. Once he's melee, run away from him, snare, and cycle your specials again! He won't switch back to ranged for about 5-7 seconds, until he figures out.

HOWEVER, there's always a chance these bastards will use a kinetic rifle/carbine/pistol, then you should retreat immediatelly and switch to armor that's kinetic efficient!
