Introduction
So you want to PVP? Not sure how to do it and who to go with? Never PVP'd before and want a quick introduction? Well hopefully this guide will assist the newer PVP'rs to PVP excellence so that together we can improve PVP for all the people on this Server. With this guide, hopefully you will learn, where to go, what to do and what not to do, and how to have fun, both in surviving and dying.
Get a Template
This will effectively be the make or break of your success in PVP. As soon as you get into PVP you will notice that the players are ruthless, and for those beginners, they have relatively little mercy. So it's important that you choose a template that you are comfortable with both with good combat skills, defensive skills, and healing skills
Generally speaking, ranged professions do a lot better than melee professions. The main reason for this is that before you get close enough to do damage, 5 meters for melee, 10 meters for fenser lunge, the ranged professions would have already done a lot of damage and maybe even killed you. Each profession has its benefits and weaknesses.
Here are a few ranged template suggestions foryou to stand against all the jedi:
Master Rifleman / Master Doctor / Pistoleer 0004
strengths: effective range is 65 meters / can buff+ rez + heal/ fan shot gives a cone area attack at effective range / rifles do a lot of damage
Master Bounty Hunter / Master Carbineer / Combat Medic 4000
strengths: powerful critical shot / good terrain negotiation / can take Jedi BH missions / can heal self and others with bacta spray / good defenses
Master Smuggler / Master Pistoleer / Combat Medic 4000
strengths: powerful root / can heal self and others with bacta spray / can last ditch attack / can buy faction points and faction installations / pistols are fast
****Master Rifleman / Master Combat Medic / BH 3000 strengths: rifles do a lot of damage / good terrain negotiation / can take Jedi BH missions / can heal self and others with bacta spray / can poison +set on fire + rez****
Master Commando / Master Smuggler / Combat Medic4000
strengths: commando weapons do a lot of damage/ can heal self and others with bacta spray / powerful root
These are only a few ranged suggestions, but the common thing thatisrecommended for PVP is the ability to heal yourself. Even though all combat players can heal themselves using stim packs once every minute, doctors and combat medics have bacta healing skills which can be used continuously, when combined with use of stims, make them a lot harder to take down. Also the 4000 CM line gives you the ability to point blank area heal your group.
Get Equipped
For successful PVP, you need to be fully equipped. Its amazing how long it takes for people to realise all the essential items they need for PVP. Hopefully this will clear some things up
----------------------
Good Armour - Anything with an energy value above 6000 is decent (the following information was taken from the armousmith forum)
Assault
Professions: Bounty Hunter, Commando, Squad Leader
Bonus: +1000 Kinetic
Penalty: -1000 Energy Appearances: Chitin, Composite, Ithorian Sentinel, Kashyyykian Hunting, Factional
Battle
Professions: Carbineer, Combat Medic, Creature Handler, Doctor, Fencer, Pikeman, Ranger, Swordsman
No Bonus or Penalty
Appearances: Bone, Marauder, Padded, Ithorian Defender, Kashyyykian Black Mountain, R.I.S. (quest),and Factional
Reconaissance
Professions: BioEngineer*, Pistoleer, Rifleman, Smuggler
Bonus: +1000 Energy
Penalty: -1000 Kinetic
Appearances: Mabari, Tantel, Ubese, Ithorian Guardian, Kashyyykian Ceremonial, and Factional
Armour Stats
1000 = 10.5%
2000 = 20.0%
3000 = 28.5%
4000 = 36.0%
5000 = 42.5%
6000 = 48.0%
7000 = 52.5%
8000 = 56.0%
9000 = 58.5%
10000 = 60%
There are two types of damage output, kinetic and energy. In PVP the main damage output is energy, so make sure that the energy stat on the armour your purchase is as high as possible. Also buy a PSG, there condition lasts along time, and eventhough they are bugged when crossing server boundaries, they do work sometimes
A note about slicing: if you buy high quality armour, you don't need to get it sliced, this will increase the encumerbance to a level which you can't mitigate. Check your template for the encumberance your template can mitigate, the best quality armour will already be sold at those caps. If you slice it further, you will get accuracy/speed/movement penalties.
The best recon energy armour I've seen so far has an energy rating of over 8000 already made at the encumberance cap, slice at your own risk.
----------------------
Good Weapons - Have a look at the relevant profession forums forgood dps stats on your respective weapon, what is essential is low action cost + high damage, don't be concerned about DPS, dps doesn't come into effect if you use combo specials, anything above 110 actionis murder, imo. Also buy powerups, for melee weapons you need melee powerups, for ranged weapons you need ranged powerups. These will increase the damage output and incrase the speed of the weapon, the only drawback is that the weapon will decay much faster, so make sure you put anti decay kits on those special weapons. If you can afford it, buy krayt enhanced weapons made using pre CU components, you may have to talk to a weaponsmith to get this specially made, but will cost you money.

Good Food + Drink +Spice- These cannot be stacked like they used to,the most important quality for food and drink is something which increasesyour health bar, action regeneration and mind regeneration if you have healing abilities, and also improves your combat effectiveness or defensive effectiveness.
Here are some suggestions of some pvp foods, taken from the jedi forum
- Mandalorian Wine (Drink): H: +400, HR: +50, AR: +200, MR: +200, FILL: 50 (15min), DURATION: 7min - for non jedi
- Breath of Heaven (Drink): H: +400, HR: +200, AR: +200, MR: +50, FILL:50 (15min), DURATION: 7min- for jedi
These can be taken 3 times in a row before you have to take a break, that will be a buff that lasts 21 minutes. As long as the combat doesn't last longer, then you should be ok. Also remember you have a spice downer every 15 minutes which gives you -20% health, action, mind regen for 30 seconds.
Unfortunately these foods with these kinds of stats aren't in wide circulation, since most of the veteran crafters quit due to the roll back and combat upgrade. So until they are eventually made en mass, the alternatives are (these are also useful if your stomach is full from drink):
- Blob Candy (Food): AR: +170, FILL: 10 (3min), DURATION: 45min
- Ahrisa (Food): H: +180, MR: +200, FILL: 33 (9:54min), DURATION: 17.10min
- Kiwik Clusjo Swirl (Food): H: +150, AR: +200, MR: +50, FILL: 33 (9:54min), DURATION: 13:30min
Spices: if you have medic skills, take booster blue instead of neutron pixie, so you don't get the -20% mind regen
- Booster Blue (Spice): H: +20%, HR: -20%, AR: +20%, MR: +20%, DURATION: 15min - doctors + cm's + jedi
- Neutron Pixie (Spice): H: +20%, HR: +20%, AR: +20%, MR: -20%, DURATION: 15min - non medics
Other foods:
- Crispic (Food): Melee Accuracy +70, Ranged Accuracy +40, FILL:16 (4:44min), DURATION:11min
- Travel Biscuits (Food): +11 Terrain Negotiation, FILL: 8 (1:12min), DURATION: 20min
- Parwan Nutricake (Food): Boosted Burstrun, FILL: 29, DURATION: 0 (INSTANT)
- Elshandruu Pica Thundercloud (Drink): +90 Ranged Defense, FILL: 17 (3:06min), DURATION: 17min
- Vegeparsine (Food): +100 Melee Defense, FILL: 27 (8:06min), DURATION: 16min
- Ruby Bliel - Decreased Stim usage roundtime to 30secs
Working Food Combo's:
- Kanali Wafers + Blob Candy + Spiced tea ==> +180 health, +100 health regen, +180 action/mind regen (artisan)
- V. Brandy + V. Canape ==> +340 health, +250 health/mind regen, +200 action regen
- V. Canape + Mando Wine ==> +440 health, +250 health/mind regen, +200 action regen
- Won-Won + Accarragm ==> +220 health, +250 health/action regen, +200 mind regen
- Won-Won + Breath of Heaven ==> +440 health, +250 health/action regen, +200 mind regen
Thundercloud and vegeparsie doesn't seem to work at the moment, keep an eye on the chef forums.
About Parwan: Instead of /burstrun you consume a Parwan. If you get one with +100% reduction (that was available pre-cu at least) you have no downtime between burstruns. A Parwan isalso faster and last longer than what you gain from 4xxx Scout (Bounty Hunter). Remember that you cant /burstrun when dizzy. Eating a Parwan when dizzy is a waste.
----------------------
The best method for finding all the equipment you need is to go to the bazaar at one of the big cities (bestine / theed / coronet) and click on vendor location tab at the top, then select entire galaxy at the top left and select the type ofitem you want from the drop down menus.You can buy the item from there and it will also give you a waypoint to the vendor the item is located on. Remember, get your weapons and armour sliced by a master smuggler!!!!!!!!
Get Skill Enhancing Tapes
The best place to purchase good skill tapes is theEclipse trade forum. At the moment melee/ranged defense doesn't seem to work (keep and eye on chef forum for fixes), although you can buy those from a bio engineer, as well as terrain negotiation clothing. So get +15 terrain negotiation undershirt and +15 terrain negotiation bandoleer, make sure its got 4 sockets and with the socket remaining, you can drop in skill tapes which use up the sockets, 1 socket per skill mod on the tape. If you place a tape with 3 mods on an item with 1 socket, the highest mod on the skill tape will stick.
What you need to do is enhance a skill that you already have in your template. The cap for any enhancement is +25. So if you have a riflespeed of +65 in your template, you can use tapes upto +25 so your riflespeed becomes +90. Any more tapes above +25 do not add any extra effect.
When you place skill tapes on a piece of clothing or armour, do not add the same mod on the same item. They need to go on different items of clothing or armour, otherwise you will lose the lower valued skill mod.
The best skill mods are
- general melee accuracy
- general melee speed
- general ranged accuracy
- general ranged speed
- any defensive tape that is profession specific(eg. rifle defense)
- any speed tape that is professionspecific(eg. rifle speed)
- any accuracy tape that is profession specific (eg. rifle accuracy)
Also melee defense, ranged defense if you don't want to use bio engineered clothing. If its an Armour Attachment, it can only fit on to a piece of Armour, if its a clothing attachment, it can only fit onto a piece of clothing.
If you can't afford the expensive prices that us vets charge on the trade forum, then have a look on the bazaar, you might find a bunch of +1's which do add up if you spread them across your armour. Also check out the different caves at different points of interests, usually after a server reset they will all have skill tapes in either loose debris or magnetic sealed containers you can access. Also npcs tend to drop skill tapes, try Nyaxx poi on correlia, also try factional npc, nightsisters and the heavily camped Aukuan cave on talus, djk/djm on dant.
Get Good Macros
With the combat upgrade, this is not as important as it used to be, however if you are a doctor / combat medic / jedi its very important to have a macro to heal yourself.
I use these three macros
/bactaInfusion self;
/bactaShot self;
/bactaJab self;
and sometimes in heavy combat i use this one
/bactaInfusion self;
/pause 30;
/macro bactainfuse;
also for Jedi i use this one as well as a looping macro, but you can use the above one and change it for the jedi skills that you have.
/forceInfusion self;
Get Guilded
The best way to find PVP on a regular basis is to join one of the larger PVP orientated guilds. There are so many guilds to choose from. You will have to pick a side, Rebel or Imperial.
Never PVP alone!!!!! This is a mistake, you will get ganked bigtime, and you won't enjoy it.Rebel and Imperialbase attacts are hardly advertised, so you need to become friends with people who are alwaysPVPing, look at the PVP contact lists and make friends with the PVP contacts on the respective sides.
Get Overt
The system changed with the Galactic Civil War update. Getting overt is now quite an effort. Previously you used to type /declare close to a base and you went overt immediately, now it takes 1 minute and you have to talk to the recruiter twice, once for each 30 seconds. The best thing to do is clone at a place next to a rebel recruiter / imperial recruiter. This way, if you die (and go on leave), then you can quickly go overt again and shuttle back into the combat.
On tatooine, for rebels, Anchorhead is a good place to clone, and for Imperials Bestine. Have a look at the planetary map, you will see either a Rebel or Imperial drop down menu, and this will show all the waypoint to the respective factional bases. Also there are 2 types of base, PVE bases and PVP bases. PVE bases are the ones which have NPCs outside, you can get overt at one of these, PVP bases only have NPCs inside and not outside, you can't go overt here
The State of PVP
There are a lot of Jedi!!! Maybe 70-80% of all PVP'rs are Jedi. Don't let this bother you, ranged professions such as those that I posted are much more useful in medium/large scale PVP encounters. The general rule is that the group with the bigger numbers win, so you have to be clever, be ready to fall back and regroup, target 1 person at a time, this can be done with a group of ranged. Also have waypoints to friendly bases nearby which would act as a safe haven if being chased.
PVP comes and goes in waves, so you have to be ready when it does come, be ready to reinforce your faction. Having JTL will help a lot with travel, although its not essential if someone in your group gives you a ride.
PVP Rules of Engagement ****its up to you if you abide by these rules or not they are not set in stone
These are some PVP general Rules you should follow
- Don't grief / corpse camp, if they are still in the combat field, obviously don't let them rez, but if all the attackers have been killed, then letting them rez will save time for the next fight.
- Don't load gank, well this is pretty hard not to do, but at least give the person loading 5-10 seconds to turn on his macros before you gank him.
- Don't take down unmanned turrets, this is just silly to do so, I actually think having strong non CU balanced turrets is good, because when there is big PVP attack, it gives the defenders a chance to regroup, if they are caught off guard.
- Don't use pwnage 1337 speak, ok you are a Master Defender, and Master Power can't hurt you, be curtious and polite, he may be a veteran PVP'r, how long have you been PVP'ing? A few weeks? Maybe you are a Rifleman and kill a Jedi using snipershot, he is obviously new, give him a chance...
- Don't use force drain unless used upon.This is never going to happen, so use it freely, but don't brag afterwards if you killed him while using it. 5v1, you don't need to use force drain do you??? The 5 of you will be able to kill him, it may take a little longer, but thats ok.
- Do have fun and get involved, PVP is great, always has been and always will be!!!
