Well I gave SWG a try, it was fun for a bit and has great potential, but it's still a raw product. It needs another 6 months of strenous beta just for general bugs, and it also needs a total rebalance of the professions. Two situations that should have never happened at a launch, and they have nearly an impossible hill to climb now.

For those that think melee should never be in balance with range, tell me why not? Are we 2nd class citizens to this game? Did we lose some rights to be able to enjoy the game by chosing a melee class? The answer seems to be a yes, the head developer basically said that they added melee to add another aspect to the box to make it look good, and they were giving up on it.

From those that say things are not too bad, try playing a melee versus mobs that hit hard, mobs that hit for 1000+ is not fun, and anything over 250 a hit requires a medic healing constantly. Pets are unquestionably THE tanks in this game, we are mere fodder as a melee. It amazes me how a game with so much player interaction REQUIRED, totally blows the idea of a PC tank class out the window. Doesn't it not seem like another situation to help force player interaction? I am not saying to REQUIRE a pc tank, but it would be nice if it was VIABLE. I find myself sitting idle a lot while my friends are gunning down large mobs and letting the pet tank, I am basically useless except for conversation. Even in the lower hitting mobs, I find myself taking dirt naps because of the bugs with grouping and the pools not updating.

For all you that keep saying "Bringing knuckles to a gun fight is silly", well this game is not based on reality if you didn't notice, and there is no reason to make things "real." I don't think we all play this game to get a feeling of being at work, to feel like we have bills to pay, or other other problems...we play this to get away from RL and into a fantasy type world where we can have fun and forget about anything else going on. There is no reason why this should all be "realistic" in every regard, especially when it kills specific classes fun due to making it too real. Remember it's people behind the characters just trying to have fun, this isn't a competition to get promoted in RL or anything!

The one thing regarding balance, one thing that should be required at a minimum, is viability of the classes. Every class should be able to play the game and contribute in their basic regards, for melee we should be able to stand and take a few hits while we melee...if we are not then we are not advancing our profession and that's just sad.

To those melee staying in the game, good luck guys, I am guessing it will be a good 3-4 months before any real changes that might help will be implemented. I am of course hoping it will be sooner, if things change before the end of the month I'll re-instate my account, but I think there is just too much work for them to do in too short a time. For now I'll go back to EQ, where I can at least contribute some to the fray, and await a new game such as WoW or EQ2

I bought this game specifically to waste time until wow/eq2.

So when I logged on and saw the good and the bad, I wasn't shocked. Seems I always get stucik with the hard-life class in mmorpg. And always they are the last to get fixed.

Game like this should have free expansions until they fix the content. Anyway, I understand why you quit. I'm trying to enjoy. I'm trying..and I shouldn't have to.

Agree'd 100%.

The ranged users would be the (Rangers, archers, magicians). The summoners? (Creature handler). White mage's? (Duh, medics and the like). Then you have the crafters...and finally the melee fighters. In ANY game where i play a melee fighter, i have much more Hp to work with, take much less damage as only melee fights can wear certain heavy armor, AND i get better resists and evades then the rest.

Since SOE also does EQ, this game draws a lot from it. But...they seriously need to seperate the classes even further. This game isn't reality and this game isn't meant to imitate life. So for gods sake give us our barbarian/monk fighters. Who take much less damage, have crazy evades and resists and can dish out insane amounts of damage.

We'd STILL be at a disadvantage as ranged users can keep running and shooting. But at least we could last a lot longer against mobs and npc's. Melee classes in this game are just in to please the people who want to play them. Even the dev's said "We don't understand why anyone would want to play a melee class in star wars."

Then either take them out completely and convert all my unarmed combat xp into BH xp, OR, make our class up to par with other melee classes in other games.

Good points ...

Just don't get your hopes up on WoW or EQ2. Garuntee they will release early, bugged, and with major issues just like every other MMORPG launch in history. UO to EQ, AC, AC2, AO, DAoC, etc etc etc ... at somepoint you gotta just realize that it is part of the hobby.

Marketers lie to get you money.

Publishers push it our early to get paid more.

Designers will focus on art content over gameplay content as they can patch one of them after you bought the product.

So forget what they promised you look at what you have and judge from there if it was worth the cost. I mean I love the Blizzard franchise and most likely will give WoW a passing look, but don't think that you should be fooled by their advertisements. Its not world of warcraft, its worlds of "Diablo-meets-EQ-with-no-PVP". Still looks artistically nice and should be fun but you have to approach the games with realistic expectations. Waiting for WoW for things like well... war, will just get you dissapointed.

Thats where you are wrong bro. Blizzard is always known to release a well designed finished product. That usually doesnt have bugs, mostly small issues which get fixed fast, the kind where they balance things out a bit.

I played many of their games, they are always user friendly and enjoyable.

Here is how I see it. If SWG will not fix their problems at least a month before WoW then I am not going to keep it. I will feel like they only patched the fix just to keep people from leaving (you know doing minimal required to do anything). If they dont patch the problems ... well obviously WoW is the way for me.

Well bro I know its unbalanced, and that melee life is a bit too hard, and monsters spawn now just too rare to have any fun fighting (besides butterfly which swarm like gangasters 5 on 1).

But I am going to give this game a chance until World of Warcraft comes out. When that game comes out if it will be better I will switch, if not then I will stay with this. I am a casual gamer and prefer when games are not too hard to enjoy playing casually.

Well I have to agree with you seems totally ignorant that a Teras Kasi Master can die to the hands of a person with just expert pistol in PvP. I had to pick up Creature Handler just tohave a chancein PvP. There's only been one time where I actually had the luck of dueling another unarmed fighter which I killed him. What I forgot was that if you deathblow a person in a duel, (not factional), they get the first hit on you before they go red to you again. He incapped me but right before that I sicked my two rancors on him, was much fun to watch.

I avoid PvP by all means since the brawler professions blow against marksman. Being a Creature Handler is nice but is not always going to save you no matter what pet you have or how many you can call out at once and after the patch forget it entirely. Although my frustrations with this game or extremely high I'm gonna stick it out for a few more months to see if the devs make any progress.

Don't leave yet at least wait until the creature mounts and vehicles are released and you get to try it out. I'm as frustrated as you are believe me but the game is still fun to a point even though many classes are broken.

I'm definately leaving if the devs don't get off the nerf kick and start fixing instead of nerfing. You are not the only one who have grinded on their skills hard. Most people in this game worked very hard to get to where they are and are just as annoyed as you. We are sticking with it for a while because things may get better we really don't know 100% but I'm still hanging on to hope and if several issues are not addressed soon I will be heading over to Horizons when it is released. I always wanted to have a dragon character in a MMORPG can't wait.

Im really starting to have a foul distaste for swg, you can only use that "its a new mmorpg" for so long"

Yeah, you gotta love it when the game you're playing suddenly isn't fun any more, and that first monthly bill gets put on your credit card. I know several TKA's in game who have the same feelings/thoughts.Playing a TKA is rapidly losing it's appeal.

Let's hope SOE is listening.

Yah melee are in a pretty sad state right now, but I still enjoy playing my TKA so I think I'm in for the longhaul. I think if I ever wanted to go heavy PvP, I would definitely start working on a different skill tree. That's one great thing about this game, if you chose to go TKA from the start... you aren't bound to it, so you can bail out at anytime !

Hope to see all you people that cancelled back after awhile
