Thread: PVP advice
I'm relatively new to PvP. I am currently 1/4/4/4 Cammando, working towards master. This is what I'm shooting for as far as other skills (using the character builder);
TKA 0/3/0/4
Pistoleer 0/0/4/0
Medic 0/0/4/0 to use stim Ds (I think they would need med use to be experimented down, but not sure)
The supporting skills to Master Cammando are defensive in nature obviously.
Does this look like it would work well? I know there is a lot of skill involved in PvP but I will learn that over time. I know a lot of good PvP players who are master docs as well as master something offensive.
Please give me advice on what works for you guys in PvP as a Cammando and what supporting skills do you like (why).
Give up pistoleer, and the 3 skills in tka not in the precision striking line, pick up fa2 and scout up to explor3
If you PvP without being able to use the terrain effectively you are screwed, that is unless you plan to fight in cities and never leave. fa2 will allow you to get more bang for your buck so you could drop down the entire pharm tree and get fa4 and get 400+ heal on a single stim b, I have fa1 and I vary between 180 and 520 per heal.
What is fa2?
So your saying defense vs KD, stun, dizzy are not that useful?
I just recently gave up CH, so I still have explore IV and hunting IV. How do you use the terrain effectively? What are some of your more successful tactics?

So first aiddecreases the time between stim pack use?Does everybody else agree that high fa and pharm are great for PvP? What about other supporting skills for cammandos? Who
First aid increases the amount you heal per stim, Diagnostics decreases the time between stims, and Pharma increases med use. With BE's probable fix to tissues Pharma can go by the wayside in lue of med use clothing. I just have FA and with stim b's with a base of 350 I can get 700 heals.
PvP... eh its a waste of time, IMO. I'm about to surrender my faction affiliation, guild membership, and toys since why bother with it. "Ohh... I flame you" "Oh you poison me" "Oh you disease my corpse" "What do we gain from this?" "Nothing"
PvP isn't all that fun after having nothing but that to do. Statics and Themes are so bugged why bother doing them. Not to mention this wonderful broken ass patch we now have...
Wez, while I understand the desire to master a profession, it is not the best stratagy for Pvp.
The HAR and the grenade lines in commando are not really usefull, so why waste valuable pts on them? The extra defense is a good idea as well, but I am not sure if they have fixed the state defenses yet. You better look into that before sticking with that pistol tree.
The suggestions for the medic you already have. More speed and bigger heals. Not bigger stims.
Here is my Pvp template. It is skewed heavy for defense.
Commando 0/4/4/0
Pistoleer 4/0/4/0
TKA 0/0/0/4
Fencer 4/0/0/0
Medic 2/1/0/0
I may drop pistol to 3/0/0/0 (keeping body shot and most of the dodge defense) and lower my medic to I can get the ranged knockdown from smuggler. I have not decided on that yet. I have also considered dropping FT and just keeping the heavy weapons. This is just a style choice for me as I have noticed that I use my LP for a number of different moves in Pvp and only use the FT (mostly) against CH pets. Although, I have used flame cone to great effectiveness when outnumbered.

Maybe you should check out a well made proton grenade with a good damage slice and a good powerup. If you have not use one or seen one used, well...it is very impressive.
There are a few posts on these boards that like the grenade line, but there are far more that aggree that grenades are not accurate enough and have too long a delay to be really usefull. From my point of view, they are just a less effective version of the heavy weapons tree. The only advantage being cold damage.

My thinking in pursueing Master Cammando is that it is my impression that the most successful PvP sessions are when you combine different professions..much like combined arms in the military. Flamesingle2 kills or almost kills most ppl I hit with it, so Cone2 sounds very appealing to me. I am in a guild and so part of my decisions on building my character are based on what we alrdy have in the guild. I don't think mastering cammando is necessarily the best move in making a PvP killing machine, but it will help in the context of combined arms. So now that I have decided to master cammando, what skills should I add to support my PvP success is what I'm wrestling with.
I have recently decided that a ranged KD might be nice to stop kiteing. I am looking to Carbineer Chargeshot for that ranged KD ability. Does anybody have experience with that special? Is it effective?

Carbineer is highly effective, and very costly on your HAM pool, as carbines will suck you dry in no time. Walk with caution here. Charge shot works, but you'll soon find yourself deprived of most of your action pool...being buffed is the key, whether you're a carbineer or a pistoleer. Spices or doctor enhancements, BUFF yourself prior to PvP if at all possible. Meaning, while overt, be ready at all times.
A word of caution about the Flamer specials: you'll miss alot in PvP. Use them with care, especially as they leave you vulnerable for a period of time following their use. I'm a Master, and I miss withthem in PvP often, especially against a pistoleer or Bounty Hunter. You mention professional diversity...that is the key my man. The best flamer special in PvP is, in my opinion, the flame cone. You can damage alot of your enemies and their pets in one fell swoop, making it alot easier on your comrades as a result. And they should be backing you up, btw, because the Commando is a cornerstone of any successful strike team. Not so important if you're Imperial, but very, very important if you are Rebel.
Hello I am a young rifleman 2/0/0/0 and I can solo most things and do most missions now. I notice even at my low levels I do very well wandering around and bagging mission money and exp. However my damage output in PvP could probably be better. Sometimes I notice that my headshot 3 seems to only take out a sliver of health while completly sacking me. What is a good weapon for PvP and what stats on that weapon should I be looking for? I have a 326dmg T-21(unsliced) WIth 7.4 speed. I also have a Max 224 Spraystick with 2.2 spd.
Thank you this board is always very informative.
