Thread: Publish 20: Jedi Tracking Test Results (2 hour sample)

I spent 2 hours earlier testing the "hits and misses" of trying to find a huntable Jedi. Only 2 Jedi during this time were online, trackable and huntable. Most were "offline". At first I thought that the Jedi were back to their shenanigans and tricking the droids into thinking they were offline. Now I don't believe this is the case. There were just too many "offline" Jedi in this time period that it would have to be a well-coordinated conspiracy amongst them all to throw off the droids. My conclusion is that the Devs messed up. I don't see how they could mess up something like this when there was only 4 things bounty hunter related that they changed.

My testing also shows what I was warning everyone about pre-Publish 20 (when everyone was more concerned about the ability to group up with another BH to gank a Jedi): The biggest problems with anonymous missions are: (1) Housesitters AFK in private houses, and (2) Kashyyk Jedi. Now the Devs have added a third major problem: They can't even get the terminals to only show online Jedi.

Below is a log with timestamps of my test.

Hint: Until they fix this (if they fix this), you could quickly check to see if a Jedi is "online" by attempting to launch an Arakyd in front of the informant immediately after you receive the Bio Signature. If the Jedi is "offline" then it will give you the offline error message right there. If the Jedi is "online" then it will tell you to move somewhere else to launch the droid.

I'm going to stop playing my BH for a couple of weeks to see if they fix these major problems, beause it is totally ridiculous to spend two hours just to find a single Jedi you can hunt.

Face it jedi got you nerfed. You can't even do what your profession is meant to do because most jedi can't really play the game and do not have the mental capacity to adapt and survive. They volunteered to be a jedi and knew what the risks where but couldn't live upto it. Now we have to try and adapt, but is it really worth it? All those offline messages. They expect you to take that kashyyyk mission even though you will not get a name at all and will not know if the target logs off or not. and if you do search all the instances and get incredibly lucky they'll probably use the LOS bug.

The previous two post are so very accurate. What just happened to Bounty Hunter, in terms of increased difficulty added toparticipating in the prof, should have happened to Jedi. Though I know BH has been screwed completely, I plan to doone hundredmissions and record my results above in attempt to give it a real test drive. So far I have similar stats as those shown above

'Eternal, Elder Bounty Hunter
Overlord of 'SS'
Valley of Shadows Mayor (Talus)
187 Jedi Slain Post CU
41 Million Earned
220+ Marks Slain NGE
21.7+ Million Earned

You had 15 instances of "target not online" at a cycle time of 3 minutes, total time wasted 45 minutes out of your 2 hours.

Before publish 20 I warnedthat this would be a major problem, and indeed a problem that gets worse the longer the server has been up because of the unstoppable accumulation of "once online, now offline" Jedi missions far outnumbering the online missions. My warnings are now confirmed.

There are two possible fixes that I can think of, a good fix and a second best temporary fix:

1) The good fix is this: when a Jedi logs off, run a check to see if his mission is listed on BH terminals. If it is, remove the listing. Low overhead process, since the check and status change only happens once at the right moment (when a Jedi has left the gameworld).

2) The second best fix is to add a "Check Online Status"button on the mission description that you pull when you double-click on terminal listings. You would still waste time and go through a lot of clicking, but the wasted time would be measured in seconds, not minutes.

(The part about listing a mission upon logon if the visibility is high enough is already working and doesn't need to be tampered with.)

Oh, and I am willing to bet my left cyber arm that allowing so many offline missions to be listed on terminals was not at all an intendeddesign feature. The sensible part of the code for delisting missions is the player logoff subroutine, not the BH / Jedi / Terminals code that they were working on. They couldn't find an efficient way of doing it by changing the terminal code, so they just left it in and tried to hawk it to the players as a "feature", unaware of how the cumulative number of listed offline Jedi far outgrows the number of listed online Jedi once a server has been up 24 hours or more.

The efficient way, that perhaps they haven't thought of yet,is to go to the team that owns the player logoff code, and tell them "Hey, we need you to clear Jedi who log off from the BH terminals, here's the subroutine we want you to call when a Jedi logs off."

Well Guess what... I'm going to START playing my Jedi (after months)again because it used to be totally ridiculous to GANKED Into oblivion by BH 4 and 5 mans...

Get the picture? People who spent months and months grinding Jedi can now play again...

Your taking a couple weeks off hoping to be able to Gank again...

*laughs*

This is you: "/CRY.... I wasted two whole hours *Gasp*!!!!!!!"

Try hundreds of hours being waste by the constant brutal assault of 14 year old gank squads...

Nate...The terms are not supposed to show off line Jedi. This is not the fault of Jedi. If the terms worked the way they were supposed to then BHs would be more efficient. BTW I got my first BH last night. -Ace- came for me and it was a blast. He was a complete gentleman afterward. I wont say who won giggle. It is about time!

If I had a dime every time I read a Bounty Hunter post that said "You choose your profession, now live with it." to a Jedi.... I'd be rich. Rich? Yeah, more wealth than you can imagine. I don't know, I can imagine quite a bit.

Anyway... now the shoe is on the other foot... you CHOOSE to be a BH, now LIVE WITH IT.

Ok, I think the publish wasn't all bad I think getting rid of names was a good Idea.. considering all the people I know getting ganked over and over again from the same people, just because they pissed them off along time ago. But as far as jedi and the whole online off line thing, bh needs more to work with I dont mind stalking my pray for an hour in fact I kinda like it but I hate grabing missions then finding out after the trip that my target is offline. This to me is far more a waste of time and is just plain fustrating. I think the bh needs a droid screen much like an artisan has when surveying. It shows the mad the curent droid loction and and online off line message that will go on or off when the jedi does.

One other thing that bothers me though is the that jedi can grind and gain no visability this will really reduce the number of jedi missions. But rather than say get rid of It I say let em have it and make it easier for Bh to hunt jedi in cities. When ever a jedi uses his powers in a city you not only get a bio signature but the informant gives you his current planet. This should really reduce the amount of complaints you hear about to many jedi running around cities using their powers.

You guys don't get it - all the original poster is complaining about is that the new system is not working as intended, it's bugged. The terminals are not supposed to hand out missions on Jedi that are not online, but they definitely are, so we're having a discussion about that.

The original poster posted the log of their evening to point out just how badly it's bugged.

Please stop trolling.

I had a Force sensitive character, with 23 and a half boxes ground out.
I had a master creature handler.
I had a high lvl crafter character.
I had a Bounty Hunter that I hunted PC Jedi with.

My game is dead.

Guys do you all know whats happening? I belive i DO i think its a bug the DEV's over looked remeber before publidh 20 if your target went AFK? your probot would tell you target is not online. i saw a bunch of jedi running around yesterday with AFK abover their head but they were running around. the jedi have all figured this out and are exploiting this bug to thier fullest. i got lots of missions yesterday and a ton were comming up not online but i have seen like 15 to 20 jedi dueling in theed there is no way that many jedi are offline.
