Thread: Why do YOU hunt Jedi?
Message Edited by Ziocyte on 09-12-2004 02:39 PM
I hunt jedi to keep their numbers down, that smy number one reson, my number two is that i want revenge. Revenge for how ALL Jedi raped the continuity, treat fellow players, and ruined the game with their "Hologrinding" and more recently flooded the boards with millions of "How do i become a Jedi in less than 4 months?" "OMFG I JUST GOT MY OLD MAN OMOMG!!!1!11" and "We need (insert force power) to be more powerful/effective!"
Jedi are powerful, but they abuse their power. I have never met a Jedi that feels like he/she got more than they deserved for the hologrind, its always "Well i worked hard for my uberness so there!" this is the one and only case where i think 90% of the stereotypes about Jedi are true.
Do i hate Jedi? A little
Do i enjoy watching them suffer? No
Do i have "Saber Envy"? No
I'm just a guy who is sickened at what "Jedi" did to this once great game.

I would never grief a Jedi and have had a lot of good chats with them after the battles over. Don't forget they go into Jedi with their eyes wide open. they know the risks and no one holds a gun to their head making them play a Jedi.
Exactly the same reason here. I do not grief and I am not a hardcore roleplayer. My nerves build up each time I go hunting, and that is what I love. It's intense and a bit of a "rush" so to say, trying to outwit your opponent, figuring out where he'll be going, waiting till he's most vulnerable, then attacking and if you succeed, the feeling is great. I am not a jedi hater and it's nothing personal, it's just simply the thrill of it all. Win or lose, it's great fun.
The chase is the best part for me
The part of jedi hunting I struggle with is AFK jedi. Why the hell do they go AFK? Part of you doesnt want to kill such a hapless target, yet at the sametime you are fully aware of the fact they would not hesitate to kill and DB you were the tables turned. Anyway, this is the only time I feel like I am griefing, but I have to carry through on principle alone. Were I ever to pursue jedi (which I wont) I would not go AFK, I just dont understand why they do it....

First off, you say "ALL Jedi" wich is a HUGE generalization... there are plenty of Jedi that stick to their own little corner of the galaxie that you probably don't even know exsist. Some of these Jedi, however, do end up on the BH terminal for reasons partially out of their control.
Second, no amount of Bounty Hunters are gonna keep the Jedi poplulation down. To a Jedi a Bounty Hunter is simply a speed bump on the way through their journey. I have never met a Jedi who quit the game because they couldn't handle the Bounty Hunters lol. And even if they did quit is that what you want? To completely suck the fun out of someones gaming experience to the point that they would quit after months and months of dedication?
All of your examples are just generalizations and cookie cutter things that you hear ranted on the forums w/o any specific examples. How is it that Jedi abuse there power? Sure there are a few bad seeds, but that can be said for any profession. In reality they are very cordial with the rest of the player base, considering they are the fall guy for just about every problem in the game according to these message boards.
Also, if you want to read some "OMGZOR we suck we needbetter powers" check a few months back on the BH boards... It wasfor a timeTHEprimire board for whining, complaining, and genral hatred of everything in the game.

Recenly a very good friend of mine, and the person who got me involved with SWG in the first place unlocked his Jedi. This made me think. I thought about all of the Player Jedi that I have hunted and it really put into perspective how pointless and just plain mean taking player bounties is.
The way I see it there are really only 2 reasons that someone would want to hunt a Jedi.
1) They are a hardcore Roleplayer and are simply playing the role of a ruthless Bounty Hunter. (However this, at least on my server, is not very likely seeing how almost nobody roleplays in any form)
2) They are a pure griefer, and take pleasure in physically causing unrest in other peoples lifes and gaming experience.

First off, it's the BH's role to hunt Jedi. That's our gift from the devs for being BH's (even though they crap on us so much).
It's been stated by the devs that we are the crowd control for the Jedi population.
I don't greif Jedi. I hunt Jedi for the sole reason of the hunt. I like to RP a Bounty Hunter while I'm hunting Jedi. It's more fun tracking something unpredictable rather than hunting an NPC that just travels in a straight line.
I don't care WHAT you say about BH's ruining Jedi's person time. People who play Jedi MUST accept the fact that their actions reflect on whether or not we hunt them. I know plenty of Jedi who have ground themselves to Knight and have barely been on the boards. That's the way it's suppose to be. Those are the smart Jedi. They grind out in the middle of nowhere.
The only Jedi who have a problem with bounty hunters are the morons who grind down in the Geo Caves (Club Jed). Those are the people who, even though they are killing Humanoid NPC's, they can't figure out why the hell they are on the boards. They are the people who think that Jedi are the best combat profession in the game. They are the one's who think that they should be the most powerful people in the game.
Well, those powergamers that ground out Jedi just so that they can be the most powerful thing in the game have had a rude awakening.
I've killed plenty of Jedi since It's been implamented into the game. There are two kinds of Jedi.
The first kind of Jedi are the ones who accept the fact that what they did got them killed. They are the one's who understand that it's the BH's job to keep the Jedi in line. They understand that they screwed up if they had a BH after them. They are the mature players.
Then there are the power gamer Jedi. These are the people that thought that being Jedi would give them a free pass to kill anyone in the game... Be the most powerful player in combat. They are the ones who freak out whenever you kill them because, yeash, if you kill them, obviously you cheated in some fasion. They are the ones who get pïssed when they get killed because they can't come to grips with the fact that it's our job to hunt them. They don't understand that their own carelessness got them killed. These are the immature Jedi.
Now, Ziocyte, reading your post, I find it hard to believe that you are a bounty hunter. You can say that you are a bounty hunter all you want, but I think you're a Jedi just trolling about these boards, venting your frustration. Obviously you must be example number two of the kind of Jedi I've encountered.
Good hunting, respect yor prey, for they are why you hunt.
