Allright these question may be noobish but im sure lots of people share my unfortunate situation. (if you can answer this by directing me to another thread that is cool too!) I just re-activated Star wars Galaxies with both expansions after not playing for about a year and a half. I came back hoping to pick up where I left off but of course, it is never that easy. Here are my problems and questions.

I am a master Marksman and I have completed all of Scouting and im halfway through Master Scout. (Obviously I was going for Bounty Hunter)

I cant use any of my gear!!

I have a full suit of composite armor and a few very nice weapons. However, When I try to equip any of it it says I lack the requirements. I know this has something to do with the new combat system and my.. CL (combat level?).. MY CL is at 19.. that is where it was when i re-activated. What Does this MEAN!? And how do I go about getting it where I need it and how long will it take (should take long right I mean after all.. I am a master marksman) Also.. Why can't I wear my composite armor?

When I logged in they mentioned something about being able to do a "RESPEC" I thought my spec was fine at the time and said nah i dont need to.. What exactly is the point of this respec and how should i go about it as a bounty hunter hopeful?

Basically to wrap it all up.. What do i need to do in full to get back on the fast track to becoming a bounty hunter and getting back up to the best weapons and whatnot. Thanks all!

With the Comboat Update(CU) they changed everything. You dont need master marks and scout anymore to get BH. You just need Marks 0004 and Scount 0400 I think. Its one of the scout columns. Im was in the same boat you were. I quit about a year and 1/2 ago as well and just came back last month. Basically I have been doing nothing but grinding missions. Essentially SOE changed this into a leveling game. You have to have a certain combat level(CL) to use certain weaps, armor, etc. It all seemed like a big pain to me but after a while it has grown on me. The devs did something good for a change. All Melee and Ranged skills have been combined. In other words if you master pistols but you normally use rifles, you can still use any pistol skill with your rifle now or visa versa. The same rules aply to melee as well. I love that feature. I can do headshot or snipershot with a pistol or carbine now also!

Welcome back!

The benefit you have is that you are coming in as some changes are being made, so you will learn as you go. The downside is that a lot of things have changed...

First, you no longer need master marksman and master scout to become a bounty hunter. This is because other professions only needed a few lines to become master of other elite professions and they were getting double masters in say rifleman and commando.

So now you only have to have one marksman line and one scout line I believe. Just check your skill sheet and you'll see. In addition, there are requirements on weapons and armor now. You'll need to find some other armor for the time being and weaons. Most likely the ones you have are pretty junky compared to what is available now. May as well start from scratch!

Just remember to check CL requirments.

As I said, if you plan on being a Jedi hunting BH you may want to check out some of the "templates" around for your skill set. I, for example, am a Master Bounty Hunter/Master Rifleman/Pistoleer 0404 which means that besides the scout and marksman requirements I mastered bounty hunter and rifleman, in addition I trained two full lines in the Pistoleer tree.

The reason it is important to diversify is for a few reasons.......A recent update made it so that any ranged attack could be used with any ranged profession. It used to be that if you had "Pistoleer Special Attack #3" (Not a real attack, just for reference) you could only use that special when you had a pistol equipped. Not anymore...

If I equip my rifle I can fire shots that are BH specials, pistoleer specials (From the 8 skill boxes I am trained in), and rifle specials.

I would urge you to check out the templates. Also, go to bloodfin.org and download the Profession Calculator....

This will aid in your decision of which way to go. Um.......Respec...

If you type /respec it will allow you to "move" skills around....So for example...You have a lot of wasted skill in marksman and scout. You can remove that and then chose to train in more BH skills if you want. I would recommend putting all the /respec points you can into the Investigation line as it is quite difficult.

In addition, the best thing you can do now days is group with other people. Go out to the Dantooine Mining Outpost and get a good group. You will gain tons of skill really fast. Gone are the days of soloing for super XP while low level. Let me know if you have any questions.

What server are you on?

Okay first off, pretty much think of this as a new game.

You don't need to be a master Marksman/Scout to become a BH anymore. You just need the last branch in Marksman and the first in Scout.

Okay one question at a time. The respec "/respec" allows you to change some of your skills around. You can test this out, and get the feel for it. When you are done just click the "cancel" botton so nothing happens. You can change your whole character around with this option.

Now as the matter of your composite armor. All the higher end armors are split into three catagories now. Scout / Assult (which BH can use) / Battle. You need to become a novice BH before you can put the armor on. And you will get all sorts of restictions till you become a Master BH.

Okay now your weapons. Go into the discription of each weapon you have and it will tell you what you CL (Combat Level) you need or skill to use it. You need to go out and do some shopping and pick up some new weapons.

Okay sorry I can't explain any more but this keyboard I have sucks at work and have to slam on some of the keys for them to work and it's getting annoying. Hope that helps.

Dev statement was any toon that existed pre-CU will get a 3 week respec period starting with the first login after CU, so yes, he should have 3 weeks.

Doesnt sound like he has any elite profession skills though so a respec may not really help. Here is my advice. If you want respec a quicker way do the following. Pick the professions you want to go into and respec those basic profesion skills needed to get those elite profs. This should make the grinding a little quicker.

yep, but it sounds like the OP only has skills in beginer profs, you can't move those points to elite profs like BH.

I was not answering to the OP, but to the post I quoted. Thats why I quoted that post.
And you can respec from starter profession to elite profession, every starter profession point is worth 0.5 elite profession points as far as I know. So he could use the Scout x444 lines (which I assume he has since he already is close to master scout) for some BH skills. Same goes for the Marksman 444x lines.

As previous posters have already explained, it is almost a new game at the mo. Check out the 'BH Template' sticky for some discussion on template selection first. There are several options to aim for. I went for MMarks MBH Mrifles Pistols 0003. Keeping MMarks gives me better offence at the expense of my defense and missing out on a few specials. Others choose to go MBH, MRifles/Pistols/Carbines, CombatMed/Doc xxxx (choose a tree) for some good healing abilities. Others drop the lines of unused marksman to put into an elite prof. eg MBH MRifles Pistols 0404. All these templates are worth considering, and ur selection will be based on your style of play.

Use /respec to exchange Scout x444 to get BH skills, as novice BH will at least let you use your comp armour, but don't count on grinding the BH inv tree until you have got more combat skills, as it is pretty tough. As another poster pointed out, you have a 3 week respec period, so feel free to change things round and try diff combos out til you find someting you like. You may wish to keep MMarks, as I have, or you may choose to respec some of the Marks trees also, although remmeber to keep any lines that you want to go onto elite prof of. ie if you want to be MBH MRifles Pistols 0404, keep the pistols and rifles trees of marks and just lose the carbines tree.

As far as wpns go, if you use /respec to get a higher CL, you may be able to use some of your old stuff. Otherwise its time to go shopping.

Finally, a quick note on what CL actually means. The max for a player is CL80. The CL is dictated by the number of combat skill boxes you have filled. The diff in CL between you and an oponent will have a BIG effect on damage done in both directions. It effectively acts as a damage multiplier for the guy with the higher CL.

Hope this has all been of some help.
