Hey there guys, there's been several debates regarding which is better to add to Master BH. So is it carbineer, pistoleer, or a mixture of the two?

Well...since I don't know the answer, I decided to get a little of both and see how things look. Here's what I discovered last night. I recently obtained the "Stopping Shot" skill from pistoleer. It has the highest damage mod of any of the pistol shots besides the smuggler shot "Last Ditch" A couple weeks ago I obtained "Crippling Shot" from carbines...highly regarded as the best of the carbine specials. I will say that the damage output from"Stopping Shot" is quite comprable to that of "Crippling Shot", with a slight edge going to the carbine.

If you read my sig. You'll see that I have a Master Weaponsmith character as well. There are five carbines that can be built using a single Krayt tissue.

1. The CDEF (Big laugh here!)

2. DH-17

3. DH-17 snubnose

4. E11

5. Enhanced E11

Only the E11 and Enhanced E11 have any AP, but the damage output from these are quite low. The DH-17 can have a reasonable max damage, but with no AP, they are not that useful in PvP except for laying down states.

On the other hand, there are a few pistols that can be built with a single Krayt tissue.

1. The CDEF (Again, bit laugh)

2. Scatter Pistol

3. Scout Blaster

4. DL-44 Pistol

5. DL-44 Metal Pistol

6. D-18 Pistol

7. Striker Pistol

8. FWG5 Pistol

The best of these as far as damage and AP is the Scatter Pistol. I've made Scatter Pistols with Krayt Tissues that are better than any of the single tissue carbines. This means a few things.

  1. High end weaponry for the Pistoleer is less expensive than that for the carbineer.

  2. The damage output for the Pistoleer/Carbineer (Stopping Shot vs. Cripple Shot) Are not that different.

  3. The only real tactical advantage for the carbineer is the laying down of states, but a BH with a cheap fast carbine, can lay comprable states, then switch back to pistols.

  4. Tworeal tactical adavntages existfor the pistoleer. One,the the functionality of "Dodge" over that of "Counterattack", and two is the Geo Pistol since there has yet to be a Stun Carbine introduced.

This leads me to believe that there's a slight advantage to the Master Bounty Hunter / Master Pistoleer. Does anyone disagree with this conclusion?

FYI

Highest damage of any pistol (I've physically seen in game)

DE-10 (seen em around 700 max) (AP1 ???)

Highest damage of any carbine (I've physically seen in game)

Laser (seen em around 900 max) AP2

now.. don't expect to ever have either of those weapons lol...

Excellent analysis, Samijx. I am pondering the exact same question. Having mastered BH a couple of weeks ago, I'm also looking for the best add-on profession or mix of professions. The defense given by the Pistoleer profession is pretty darned good and difficult to pass by.

I have, however perused both the Pistoleer and Carbineer boards and found the Carbineers to be the happiest of the bunch. Pistoleers complain about broken specials, etc.

Looking forward to responses from those who have tried both.

I like the MBH/Master Pistoleer. You get the DE-10 cert and can pick up a 400 max damage DE-10 for around 2.5-3 mil credits. This gun is awesome against Jedi, of course against the saber block jedi you tend to run away a lot more In PVP you typically scrap this one and pull out a good krayt geo. I loved ranged BH and will not give up my guns and go melee BH. When you use the DE-10 and land the hit, it's devestating to Jedi. It's the only pistol I know of that when Jedi see it the begin to worry. I am thinking of throwing in some carbine to my template just to get my speed there evern higher, but I'll wait and see.

I like it, I'm speed capped on each weapon, and I have scattor shot 2 plus the defense vs. intim and KD in counter-insurgency.

I was aiming for an MBH proficient with both carbines and pistols, and I think I hit the nail on the head. I don't have uber dodge or counterattack, but I'm enjoying it, that's what counts

Last night I was hitting 1500 damage on Jedi that were knocked down with crippling shot, I'm becoming rather fond of spray shot, scatter shot 2, fire knockdown and crippling shot

I too have thought about just staying a mixture of carbines and pistols, it's easy to speed cap each and then just take the boxes you want most. The big difference between a mix of both, or a master of one, is the accuracy and evasion. Both Master boxes grant +25 evasion (Dodge or Counterattack), and they both add on additional accuracy, which I believe doesn't get capped. The whole saberblock situation seems to me that the only way around high saber block is with high accuracy, buffed with high accuracy food. A mixture of the two will never get the accuracy as high as a master of one.

I think I might just try mastering carbines and then see how it goes. I'n closer to master carbines right now, so that seems to be the wisest decision for now.

Thanks for all the input though, and I agree...the master carbineers do seem to be really happy with their choice!

After slugging it out with a defense stacker today spamming torsoshot and healthshot 2 I am thinking that I need to pick upa little more pistoleer than I have now. Even though I couldnt do enough damage to negate his buffs I did manage to put about 400 points in health wounds on him at which point he quit chasing me. Ironically enough a jedi came by and finished him off. I am thinking of dropping some of my master carbineer, that is quite a sacrifice though.

The one thing I am thinking though is that as an offense stacker I wont need to pick up much pistoleer as the BH abilities are pretty good already. For carbineer I think I will stick with 2404 for the offense in those three columns.

Hmmm.....I just made an observation that might make an impact on this issue.

Master Bounty Hunter /Master Pistoleer:

  • Carbine Accuracy= +120

  • Carbine Speed= +80

  • Pistol Accuracy= +165

  • Pistol Speed = +129

Master Bounty Hunter / Master Carbineer:

  • Carbine Accuracy= +200

  • Carbine Speed= +115

  • Pistol Accuracy= +120

  • Pistol Speed = +80

Speed Explanation:

  • Speed in green means that with a decent weapon, you're speed capped with all of your specials.

  • Speed in yellow means that you are speed capped with your specials, but with lots of overkill (Wasted points)

  • Speed in red means that you're not speed capped.

Accuracy Explanation:

  • Accuracy in Green means that you are maxed out (Not including clothing and armor attachments)

  • Accuracy in Red menas that you're not maxed out.

This analysis concludes:

  1. The carbineer has +35 more accuracy with his weapon than the pistoleer has with his weapon. (Not including weapon stats of course)

  2. The carbineer has speed capped his pistol specials, but the pistoleer hasn't speed capped his carbine specials.

  3. This gives a slight advantage to the carbineer. If you combine this analysis with the analysis at the start of this post, that makes the pistoleer and carbineer approximately equal. Sorry for wasting your time.

Dare I quote myself?

"Accuracy in Green means that you are maxed out (Not including clothing and armor attachments) "

Basically I am saying that's all you can get thru skill boxes alone.

Thank you for stating the part about skill boxes, because I know that could have opened up a lot of discussion that should be in another thread.

I like this post, it is informative.

I have tried MBH with both master pistoleer and master carbineer and here is my 2 cents on how they compare, MBH with master pistoleer (I used a krayt Geo blaster and paid through the nose for it; 368 max dmg w/pup) is awesome for normal pvp play but not so against jedi as the geo has a short range making it harder to take down a running jedi and you can't shoot their speeder with it if they jump on it. They'll be out of range before you can switch weapons.

With master carb (laser carb 150k, 590 max dmg with pup) use spray shot, suppression fire 2 (sometimes use Fire KD, but rarely ever works, using sprayshot followed by supression fire dizzies them and puts them on the knees, when they stand, they go down all on thier own) then once on the ground I finish them off with crippling shot. The states and KD really take them by suprise especially if they are attempting to flee. Non master sabers incap in 10-12 shots total, making it possible to even kill some FD jedi before they can use it.

For master sabers and up, I use the same except once I get them on the ground (takes longer and they cant usually get back up pretty quick) I use full auto single 2 for all the states (including blind) forcing them to use thier force pool to heal states (only way to solo a knight, stay out of saber throw range and drain thier force pool before help arrives, once their force pool is drained, you own them, just have to live long enough to do so).

I have had much more success against jedi using master carb, but succomb easily to thier groupies and less success again against jedi as master pistoleer but much more effective against thier groupies.

Has anyone tried master rifleman? Createda new char on wanderhome to give this atry without losing my MBH/Master carb template and to hunt new jedi.
